The APEC Sister Schools Networking (ASSN) project was conceived as a means to respond to ICT challenges to promote human capacity building and to enhance interconnectedness of the school-based population in APEC economies. The project was initiated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand at the 13th APEC Ministerial Meeting in Shanghai, China, and was further developed by the Ministry of Education, Thailand for consideration and endorsement at the 18th EDNET Meeting in Hanoi. The project was funded by the APEC Central Fund and the Thai Government covering participation costs of fourteen travel-eligible economies and of international speakers as well as domestic activities conducted in seven coastal provinces along the Gulf of Thailand and in Bangkok respectively. The ASSN Project was divided into two phases: Phase 1-ASSN Virtual Community and Phase 2-APEC International Youth Camp. The overall aim of the project was to provide an opportunity for students and teachers to learn more about APEC, APEC economies and cultures, to promote friendship, a sense of APEC partnership, cooperation and interrelationship among the APEC youth and teachers while focusing on the Pacific coastal ecosystem.

The objectives of this study are to investigate the effects of multiple batch-fed waste filling and season on quantity and characteristics of the leachate generated from sanitary landfill. Lysimeter with 1.9 in diameter was constructed outdoor and filled with the solid wastes collected from Chiang Mai Municipal Area. Three lifts of wastes were prepared in this study and the height of each lift was 2 in. Each lift was filled after the filling of the former one for 6 months. Leachate quantity was measured once a day while leachate characteristics i.e. pH, conductivity, alkalinity, acidity, total volatile acids, total solids, total dissolved solids, COD, BOD, TOC, TKN, NH<sub>3</sub>- N, TP, Cl<sup>-</sup> were analyzed once a week. The results show that low amount of leachate quantity was generated when the waste had not reached it’s field capacity. The significant amount of leachate quantity was produced from the new lift after the waste filled before had been saturated by rainfall added. The 1<sup>st</sup> lift of waste created very high organic contents in the leachate. After the 2<sup>nd</sup> and the 3<sup>rd</sup> lifts were placed, the lower organic pollutants’ concentrations were investigated. The filling of the wastes in the rainy season generally gave the high concentrations of pollutants.

본 논문의 목적은 위생매립지에서 발생하는 침출수에 미치는 폐기물 간헐 투입 방식과 계절의 영향을 조사하였다. 직경 1.9m 의 모형매립조를 옥외에 설치하고, Chiang Mai 도시지역에서 수집한 고형폐기물을 매립하였다. 본 연구에서는 각 2m 높이의 폐기물층을 세 층으로 준비하였다. 각 층은 6개월 동안 하나를 채운 후에 다른 것을 채운다. 침출수의 량은 하루에 한번 측정하고, 침출수의 특성인 pH, 전기전도력, 알칼리성, 산성, 총 휘발산, 총 고형물, 총 용해성 고형물. COD, BOD, TOC, TKN, NH3-N, TP, C1-는 일주일에 한번씩 측정하였다. 이러한 결과는 폐기물이 매립지 용량을 채우지 못하면, 침출수의 량은 적게 발생된다. 강우로 인해 포화되기 전, 폐기물을 채운 후에 새로운 층에서 막대한 량의 침출수가 발생된다. 폐기물의 첫 번째 중 침출수에서 유기함량이 높다. 두 번째와 세 번째 층이 자리잡은 후에, 낮은 유기물 함량이 조사된다. 우기의 폐기물 매립은 일반적으로 오염 농도가 높다. Sea cucumber, Holothuria scabra, is a well-known traditional Asian medicine that has been used for suppressing inflammation, promoting wound healing, and improving immunity. Moreover, previous studies demonstrated that the extract from H. scabra contains many bioactive compounds with potent inhibitory effect on tumor cell survival and progression. However, the effect of the methanolic extract from the body wall of H. scabra (BWMT) on human prostate cancer cells has not yet been investigated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects and underlying mechanism of BWMT on prostate cancer cell viability and metastasis. BWMT was obtained by maceration with methanol. The effect of BWMT on cell viability was assessed by MTT and colony formation assays. The intracellular ROS accumulation was evaluated using a DCFH-DA fluorescence probe. Hoechst 33342 staining and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining were used to examine the apoptotic-inducing effect of the extract. A transwell migration assay was performed to determine the anti-metastasis effect. BWMT significantly reduced cell viability and triggered cellular apoptosis by accumulating intracellular ROS resulting in the upregulation of JNK and p38 signaling pathways. In addition, BWMT also inhibited the invasion of PC3 cells by downregulating MMP-2/-9 expression via the ERK pathway. Consequently, our study provides BWMT from H. scabra as a putative therapeutic agent that could be applicable against prostate cancer progression.
