한국 재래 산양에서 Leptospira spp.에 대한 혈청역학적 연구

Between January 1999 and September 2001, 948 sera (120 from each province except 108 from Chungbuk) from 8 provinces were sampled from Korean goats. All the samples were serologically tested for Leptospira spp. By the microscopic agglutination test against four L. interrogans serovars including canicola, icterohaemorrhagiae, pomona and hardjo, 948 Korean goats were confirmed as 11 seropositives (1.2%) only infected with L. icterohemorrhagiae. All positive sera were collected from Gyeonggi (5), Gangwon (4) and Chungbuk (2). Titration of them were classified as 1:100 of 10 sera except one case with 1:200 from Gyeonggi. It was meaningful that the pathogen in Korean goats was mainly distributed in the northen part of the country. Consequently, the results in the study were confirmed and analyzed the recent status of infection of leptospirosisas zoonotic agentsome in Korean goats.

The 948 goat sera were serologically tested for ten pathogens including bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), bovine herpes virus type-1 (BHV-1) and parainfluenza virus type-3 (PI-3). By viral neutralizaion test, three pathogens including BVD virus, BHV-1, PI-3 were applied for screening each neutralizing antibody and its titration. Among 948 sera, there were 215 seropositives (22.7%) against BVD virus, 25 (2.6%) against BHV-1 virus, and 161 (17.0%) against PI-3 virus, respectively. In the seropositive cases to BVD virus, provincial prevalence of them were recorded as Gyeongnam(30.8%) for the highest one, while as Jeonbuk (15.8%) and Gyeongbuk(l6.7%) relatively for the lower ones. Among them, higher than 1:8 in antibody titration was classified as 74 cases (34.4%) which were suspected the cycle of its infection in their herds. Among the seropositives to BHV-1, it was relatively lower prevalence rate ranging from 1.7% to 6.7% that those of BVD virus and PI-3, but more importantly they were prevailing across the country. Most of the seropositive cases (42.9%) to PI-3 were classified as 1:4-1:16 in titration, but also distributed all around the country. The prevalence in goats varied according to areas (15.8 to 30.8%). Related to the provincial prevalence of three viral agents in Korean goats, it seemed that three viral pathogens would be directly or indirectly involving in various disorders as primary or secondary causative agents resulting in decreased productivity.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

The increase in the meat quality and milk production of cows, which breed Korean Native Cow (KNC) and Holstein cow, is not improving reproductive efficiency. In this study, we examined the effect of interferon (IFN) supplementation on motility of frozen-thawed semen and pregnancy rate after artificial insemination of KNC and Holstein cow. In experiment 1, we investigated the effect of IFN-tau concentration (10,000 IU and 20,000 IU) on the percentage of total motility (TM) and progressive motility (PM) of frozen-thawed spermatozoa. In experiment 2, KNC were infused 20,000 IU IFN-tau at insemination or after insemination. In experiment 3, KNC or Holstein cow were inseminated with frozen-thawed semen and infused 20,000 IU IFN-gamma or -tau after insemination. In experiment 1, the average of TM (23.9% to 30.9%) and PM (18.5% to 21.9%) were similar between control and treatments. In experiment 2, the pregnancy rates of IFN infusing times were not different from 45.8% to 53.6%. In experiment 3, the pregnancy rates of Holstein cow infused different kinds of IFN were similar (control, IFN-gamma, IFN-tau; 42.9%, 40.5%, 48.0%). In the case of KNC, however, the pregnancy rate of control was 55.6%, which was significantly lower than that of IFN-gamma (68.9%; p<0.05). Thus, IFN is effective on the improvement of reproductive efficiency, but further study is needed.
Sulfuretin Inhibits Ultraviolet B-induced MMP Expression in Human Dermal Fibroblasts

Sulfuretin is one of the main flavonoids produced by Rhusverniciflua. Sulfuretin has been shown to exhibit many pharmacological activities including anti-oxidant, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory and anti-mutagenic activities. However, the anti-skin photoaging effects of sulfuretin has not yet been reported. In the present study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of sulfuretin on the expression levels of MMP-1 and -3 in the human dermal fibroblast cells. Western blot analysis and real-time PCR revealed sulfuretin inhibited UVB-induced MMP-1 and -3 expressions in a dose-dependent manner. UVB-induced MAPK/NF-${\kappa}B$/p50 activation and MMP expression were completely blocked by pretreatment of sulfuretin. Taken together, sulfuretin could prevent UVB-induced MMP expressions through inhibition of MAPK/NF-${\kappa}B$/p50 activation.

The rates of absorption of carbon dioxide into aqueous solutions of 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) were measured using a semibatch stirred vessel with a plane gas-liquid interface at $25^{\circ}C.$ The absorption rates under the fast reaction regime were analysed using chemical absorption theory. The reaction was found to be first order with respect to both $CO_2$ and the amine.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Changes in intracellular Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> level are involved in a number of intracellular events, including triggering of apoptosis. The role of intracellular calcium mobilization in cisplatin-induced hair cell death, however, is still unknown. In this study, the effect of calcium channel blocker flunarizine (Sibelium™), which is used to prescribe for vertigo and tinnitus, on cisplatin-induced hair cell death was investigated in a cochlear organ of Corti-derived cell line, HEI-OC1, and the neonatal (P2) rat organ of Corti explant. Cisplatin induced apoptotic cell death showing nuclear fragmentation, DNA ladder, and TUNEL positive in both HEI-OC1 and primary organ of Corti explant. Flunarizine significantly inhibited the cisplatin-induced apoptosis. Unexpectedly, flunarizine increased the intracellular calcium ([Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>]<SUB>i</SUB>) levels of HEI-OC1. However, the protective effect of flunarizine against cisplatin was not mediated by modulation of intracellular calcium level. Treatment of cisplatin resulted in ROS generation and lipid peroxidation in HEI-OC1. Flunarizine did not attenuate ROS production but inhibited lipid peroxidation and mitochondrial permeability transition in cisplatin-treated cells. This result suggests that the protective mechanism of flunarizine on cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity is associated with direct inhibition of lipid peroxidation and mitochondrial permeability transition.</P>
