Experimental study is performed on the turbulent heat transfer behavior of aqueous suspensionsof nanoparticles °owing through a horizontal circular pipe heated under constant heat °uxcondition. Consideration is given to the e®ects of nanoparticle concentration and Reynoldsnumber on heat transfer enhancement. It is found that (i) heat transfer enhancement is caused bysuspending nanoparticles, so that maximum value of the Nusselt number is over twice than that ofthe pure working °uid, (ii) graphene-oxide-nano°uid developed here is non-Newtonian °uid, and(iii) but the pressure drop for graphene-oxide-nano°uid is almost the same as that of the pureworking °uid, because volume fraction of particles is less than 1.0%.

A Method of Handwritten Character Recognition by Feature Graphs

In this paper, we propose a method of handwritten character recognition by using graph (called future graph) that expresses the structure of a handwritten character. Our method is composed of two stages: “Generating feature graph” and “Calculation of character fitness”. However, our previous generating method of feature graph has some problems: 1) vertices representing a curve (called curve vertex) are generated more than necessary; 2) 4-degree vertex representing an intersection is divided into a pair of 3-degree vertices. These problems lower the precision of our character recognition. Therefore, we firstly improve our previous method by modifying conditions for processing inflection point and adding the second-clustering. And then we show our character recognition method by using the new generated feature graphs.
A Fast Iterative Algorithm for Large-Scale Toeplitz Linear System

This paper proposes a fast iterative algorithm for solving the large-scale Toeplitz linear systems. This method used the fast O(n log2 n) direct algorithm for solving a triangular Toeplitz linear systems which is shown in [1], and introduce the (I+S) type precondition Gauss-Seidel iteration to apply to general large-scale Toeplitz linear systems. The new method combined the good point in both the fast direct algorithm and precondition iterative method. Some numerical experiments showed the proposed method can get the best or the better evaluation for the computational time cost by comparison with Levinson’s algorithm (direct method), PCG algorithm (iterative method) and BiCG algorithm (iterative method).

An observer-based disturbance estimation method was developed. The polynomial approximation of disturbance was introduced, and the observer gain was optimized so that the H-infinity norm of the estimation error was minimized. In this method, the estimated disturbance was adjusted using the estimated output error at several arbitrary time points. The proposed method was applied to aircraft dynamics and verified by numerical simulation.
Experimental Study on Thermal Transport Phenomenon of Nanofluids as Working Fluid in Heat Exchanger

This paper aims to study the convective heat transfer behavior of aqueous suspensions ofnanoparticles flowing through a horizontal tube heated under constant heat flux condition. Consideration is given to the effects of particle concentration and Reynolds number on heattransfer enhancement and the possibility of nanofluids as the working fluid in various heatexchangers. It is found that (i) significant enhancement of heat transfer performance due tosuspension of nanoparticles in the circular tube flow is observed in comparison with pure water asthe working fluid, (ii) enhancement is intensified with an increase in the Reynolds number andthe nanoparticles concentration, and (iii) substantial amplification of heat transfer performanceis not attributed purely to the enhancement of thermal conductivity due to suspension ofnanoparticles.
Antenna Selection for Single Carrier Cyclic Prefixed Transmission

Single carrier cyclic prefixed transmissions between a base station having multiple antenna and a terminal having one antenna are considered. We propose two antenna selections based on the channel norm and on the worst channel gain. Our selection schemes do not always yield the optimal selection but have less computational complexities. The channel norm criterion has the least complexity, while the channel gain criterion exhibits almost the same performance with the optimal selection.
