Aflatoxin contamination of food and grain poses a serious economic and health problem globally. Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is extremely mutagenic and toxic as well as a potent carcinogen to both humans and livestock. In this study, the degradation of AFB1 by extracellular extract of Cladosporium uredinicola was examined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. Within 24 h of incubation, AFB1 was efficiently eliminated by the culture supernatant of C. uredinicola (84.5±5.7%) at 37oC; the elimination was proven to be enzymatic, and the enzyme was thermostable. The biotransformation products of AFB1 detected by HPLC and TLC were proven to be the same compound. Analysis with LCMS showed that AFB1 was bio-transformed to a structurally different compound (m/z=365 [M+Na]+), which is first reported. The cytotoxicity study to HeLa cells indicated that culture supernatant-treated AFB1 is less toxic as compared with AFB1.
Studies on the influence factors of wind dynamic responses on hyperbolic cooling tower shells

Wind induced dynamic responses on hyperbolic cooling tower (HCT) shells are complicated functions of structure and wind properties, such as the fundamental frequency fmin, damping ratio ζ, wind velocity V, correlationship in meridian direction and so on, but comprehensions on the sensitivities of the dynamic responses to these four factors are still limited and disagree from each other. Following the dynamic calculation in time domain, features of dynamic effects were elaborated, focusing on the background and resonant components σB and σR, and their contributions to the total rms value σT. The σR is always less than σB when only the maximum σT along latitude is concerned and the contribution of σR to σT varies with responses and locations, but the σR couldn’t be neglected for structural design. Then, parameters of the above four factors were artificially adjusted respectively and their influences on the gust responses were illustrated. The relationships of σR and the former three factors were expressed by fitted equations which shows certain differences from the existing equations. Moreover, a new strategy for wind tunnel tests aiming at surface pressures and the following dynamic calculations, which demands less experiment equipment, was proposed according to the influence from meridian correlationship.

In this paper, the network-based sliding mode observer is investigated for a class of discrete nonlineartime-delay systems with stochastic communication protocol. The stochastic communication protocol is adopted toregulate the transmission order of the measurements from multiple sensor nodes, which could effectively avoid datacollisions. Under the scheduling of communication protocol, only one sensor node is allowed to get access to theshared communication network at each time step for data transmission. Moreover, the stochastic communicationprotocol is governed by a Markov chain, which converts the protocol-constrained system into a Markovian jumpsystem. It is the purpose to design a sliding mode observer such that, with the stochastic communication protocol,the trajectories of the estimation error system are driven into a band of the sliding surface and, in subsequent time,the sliding motion is mean-square asymptotically stable. By solving a minimization problem, the sufficient conditions for the desired sliding mode observer are established. Finally, an illustrative example is given to demonstratethe effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In this research, we investigate the factors affecting on the recontract intension of franchisor in the uprising Chinese franchise market. Based on the previous study, we extract the four constructs: characteristics of franchisor, features of franchisee, relationship, and environmental uncertainty. We hypothesize that these four factors influence the performance and satisfaction of franchisor, and both performance and satisfaction influence its recontract intention in the end. In order to examine these hypotheses empirically, we conducted a survey on the 400 franchisors in China. By analyzing the data, we can confirm most hypothesis supposed. Characteristics of franchisor, franchisee, and their relationship influence the performance and the satisfaction of franchisor along with environmental uncertainty. However, in specific, the control of franchisor and the commitment of franchisor do not significantly influence on the performance. Trust, commitment and conflict in their relationship do not affect significantly on the performance and the satisfaction neither. The performance and satisfaction of franchisor positively influence the recontract intention of franchisor. This study thus provide franchisors and practitioners, who plan to extend their franchising business abroad into Chinese market, with some practical knowledge.
Isogeometric analysis of gradient-enhanced damaged plasticity model for concrete

This study proposed a new and efficient 2D damage-plasticity model within the framework of Isogeometric analysis (IGA) for the geometrically nonlinear damage analysis of concrete. Since concrete exhibits complicated material properties, two internal variables are introduced to measure the hardening/softening behavior of concrete in tension and compression, and an implicit gradient-enhanced formulation is adopted to restore the well-posedness of the boundary value problem. The numerical results calculated by the model is compared with the experimental data of three benchmark problems of plain concrete (threepoint and four-point bending single-notched beams and four-point bending double-notched beam) to illustrate the geometrical flexibility, accuracy, and robustness of the proposed approach. In addition, the influence of the characteristic length on the numerical results of each problem is investigated.

Background and Purpose This study investigated the contribution of white-matter hyperintensities (WMH) and lacunar infarcts (LI) to the risk of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in an elderly cohort in China. Methods Older adults who were initially cognitively normal were examined with MRI at baseline, and followed for 5 years. WMH were classified as mild, moderate, or severe, and LI were classified into a few LI (1 to 3) or many LI (≥4). Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini Mental State Examination and the Activities of Daily Living scale. Results Among the 2,626 subjects, 357 developed AD by the end of the 5-year follow-up period. After adjusting for age and other potential confounders, having only WMH, having only LI, and having both WMH and LI were associated with an increased risk of developing AD compared with having neither WMH nor LI. Moderate and severe WMH were associated with an increased risk of developing AD compared with no WMH. Furthermore, patients with many LI had an increased risk of developing AD compared with no LI. Conclusions Having moderate or severe WMH and many LI were associated with an increased risk of developing AD, with this being particularly striking when both WMH and LI were present.
