Shu-Ling Chen,Zikani Msuku 한국행정학회 2023 International Review of Public Administration Vol.28 No.3
Based on social learning theory , this study investigates whether psychological capital mediates the ethical leadership- work engagement link and the ethical leadership-job satisfaction link. Again, it tests whether moral identity moderates the relationship between ethical leadership and psychological capital. With data collected from 177 public servants in Malawi, this study’s findings reveal that psychological capital fully mediates the relationship between ethical leadership and work engagement while it partially mediates the ethical leadership-job satisfaction link. Furthermore, the results reveal that moral identity moderates the relationship between ethical leadership and psychological capital. The study has important implications for practice especially in human resource management in developing and adopting practices that promote work engagement and job satisfaction among employees.
Bullying in Middle Schools: An Asian-Pacific Regional Study
Shu-Ling Lai,Renmin Ye,Kuo-Pao Chang 서울대학교 교육연구소 2008 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.9 No.4
This study discusses and compares five types of bullying in middle schools among tell Asia-Pacific countries. The study does this in the following ways. It explores the impact of students' genders and family backgrounds oil the bullying. finds interactions of the victimization of bullying and relevant attitudes toward schools, teachers and schoolmates. and reveals the relationships between the experiences of bullying and the difficulties, pressures and achievements of academic study in each country. The findings provide meaningful reference points for understanding students' ethics and behavior education, schools' counseling and support systems (as well as the general improvement of the situation in the Asia-Pacific region), and for cross-cultural education comparisons.
Nonlinear Mean Reversion across National Stock Markets: Evidence from Emerging Asian Markets
SHU-LING CHEN,김형우 한국국제경제학회 2011 International Economic Journal Vol.25 No.2
This paper seeks empirical evidence of nonlinear mean-reversion in relative national stock price indices for Emerging Asian countries. It is well known that conventional linear unit root tests suffer from low power against the stationary nonlinear alternative. Implementing the nonlinear unit root tests proposed by Kapetanios et al. (200311. Kapetanios , G. , Shin , Y. and Snell , A. 2003 . Testing for a unit root in the nonlinear STAR framework . Journal of Econometrics , 112 : 359 – 379 . [CrossRef], [Web of Science ®]View all references) and Cerrato et al. (20092. Cerrato , M. , de Peretti , C. , Larsson , R. and Sarantis , N. 2009 . “ A nonlinear panel unit root test under cross section dependence ” . Working Papers 28, Department of Economics, University of Glasgow View all references) for the relative stock prices of Emerging Asian markets, we find strong evidence of nonlinear mean reversion, whereas linear tests fail to reject the unit root null for most cases. We also report some evidence that stock markets in China and Taiwan are highly localized.
Malaysian Container Seaport-Hinterland Connectivity: Status, Challenges and Strategies
Shu-Ling CHEN,Jagan JEEVAN,Stephen CAHOON 한국해운물류학회 2016 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.32 No.3
This paper adopts a qualitative methodology to assess the Malaysian container seaport-hinterland connectivity from the perspective of its physical properties. The findings reveal that although Malaysia’s major container seaports are connected to the hinterlands through road and rail transport, they are highly dependent on road. These seaports are also connected to inland freight facilities such as dry ports and ICDs, which are positioned as transit points to help connect exporters and importers in the hinterlands to seaports as well as facilitating regional and cross-border trades. This paper suggests that the quality of hinterland connectivity of Malaysian container seaports could be improved by implementing strategies which tackle the existing challenges including overcoming an extremely imbalanced modal split, insufficient rail capacity and limited train services, increasing road congestion and the limitations of space restriction in some inland facilities.

<P>This work mainly introduces the recyclability of polypropylene (PP) modified by regenerated polyurethane (PU) that was obtained after partial thermochemical decomposition of waste PU. The influence of regenerated PU on the mechanical properties and thermal stability of PP during multiple processing cycles was evaluated by a universal testing machine, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analyses. The data showed that the mechanical properties of the modified PP were dependent on the content of regenerated PU with the increase in the number of processing cycles, whereas the thermal stability of the modified PP was almost independent of the content of regenerated PU. Liver cancer is one of leading digestive malignancies with high morbidity and mortality. There is an urgent need for the development of novel therapies for this deadly disease. It has been proven that asparagus polysaccharide, one of the most active derivates from the traditional medicine asparagus, possesses notable antitumor properties. However, little is known about the efficacy of asparagus polysaccharide as an adjuvant for liver cancer chemotherapy. Herein, we reported that asparagus polysaccharide and its embolic agent form, asparagus gum, significantly inhibited liver tumor growth with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) therapy in an orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumor model, while significantly inhibiting angiogenesis and promoting tumor cell apoptosis. Moreover, asparagine gelatinous possessed immunomodulatory functions and showed little toxicity to the host. These results highlight the chemotherapeutic potential of asparagus polysaccharide and warrant a future focus on development as novel chemotherapeutic agent for liver cancer TACE therapy.

Background: Nurses are the most visible, frontline personnel providing health education to patients. In particular, nurse experience with Pap examinations have the potential to influence women's attitudes toward screening for cervical cancer. However, nurses in Taiwan have lower rates of Pap testing than the general population. Understanding the factors predicting nurse intent to have a Pap exam and Pap exam status would inform interventions and policies to increase their Pap exam uptake. Therefore, the present study was undertaken. Materials and Methods: Data were collected by questionnaire from a convenient sample of 504 nurses at a regional hospital in central Taiwan between August and October 2011 and analyzed by descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, and logistic regression. Results: Nurse intention to have a Pap exam was predicted by younger age, less negative attitudes toward Pap exams, and greater influence of others recommendations. However, nurses were more likely to actually have had a Pap exam if they were older, married, had sexual experience, and had a high intention to have a Pap exam. Conclusions: Nurses who are younger than 34 years old, unmarried, sexually inexperienced, and with low intention to have a Pap exam should be targeted with interventions to educate them not only about the importance of Pap exams in detecting cervical cancer, but also about strategies to decrease pain and embarrassment during exams. Nurses with less negative attitudes and experiences related to Pap exams would serve as role models to persuade women to have Pap exams, thus increasing the uptake rate of Pap exams in Taiwan.
