        Long-Distance Control of Nodulation:Molecules and Models

        Legume plants develop root nodules to recruit nitrogen-fixing bacteria called rhizobia. This symbiotic relationship allows the host plants to grow even under nitrogen limiting environment. Since nodule development is an energetically expensive process, the number of nodules should be tightly controlled by the host plants. For this purpose, legume plants utilize a long-distance signaling known as autoregulation of nodulation (AON). AON signaling in legumes has been extensively studied over decades but the underlying molecular mechanism had been largely unclear until recently. With the advent of the model legumes, L. japonicus and M. truncatula, we have been seeing a great progress including isolation of the AON-associated receptor kinase. Here, we summarize recent studies on AON and discuss an updated view of the long-distance control of nodulation.

        A Case of Sudden Cardiac Death due to Pilsicainide-Induced Torsades de Pointes

        An 84-year-old male received oral pilsicainide, a pure sodium channel blocker with slow recovery kinetics, to convert his paroxysmal atrialfibrillation to a sinus rhythm; the patient developed sudden cardiac death two days later. The Holter electrocardiogram, which was wornby chance, revealed torsade de pointes with gradually prolonged QT intervals. This drug is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract,and most of it is excreted from the kidney. Although the patient’s renal function was not highly impaired and the dose of pilsicainide waslow, the plasma concentration of pilsicainide may have been high, which can produce torsades de pointes in the octogenarian. Althoughthe oral administration of class IC drugs, including pilsicainide, is effective to terminate atrial fibrillation, careful consideration must betaken before giving these drugs to octogenarians.

      • Study on Visualization Method of Rice Yield and Quality Data

        One of the problems of Japanese agriculture has been decrease in the number of skilled farmers in order to retirement and aging in recent years. Therefore, it is serious problem to inherit farming techniques to the younger successors. The purpose of this study is to visualize growth situation by using UAV and GIS, and provide young farmers comprehensive data as a technical guidance. In this study, we visualized rice yield and quality of agricultural corporation from 2012 to 2017 in Central Part of Niigata Prefecture, Japan and clarified the growth situation of the paddy field at the young panicle formation stage. We extracted paddy fields to be improved from the stand point of cultivation skill based on data visualization. We overlaid field data on the aerial photograph of the corporation and extracted technological characteristics of rice paddy. In this research, we collected and visualized field information. By expressing the yield of the union fields with blue to red gradation, it was possible to intuitively confirm the state and progress of the fields. It was also easy to compare with adjacent fields, suggesting that not only information accumulation but also their work motivation was improved. The brown rice protein content was positively correlated with the yield, and it is thought that the rise in the protein content by the ground nitrogen influenced it. Sensing by UAV can visualize the variation of NDVI in the panicle formation stage, and the members can intuitively understand the variation in growth. By applying this knowledge to the fertilization work, it is thought that it will lead to added value by stabilizing the quality. In addition, we confirmed the decrease in growth due to field improvement, soil analysis and improvement in the field is required.

      • A Logistic Model Including Risk Factors for Lymph Node Metastasis Can Improve the Accuracy of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Diagnosis of Rectal Cancer

        Background: To evaluate use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a logistic model including risk factors for lymph node metastasis for improved diagnosis. Materials and Methods: The subjects were 176 patients with rectal cancer who underwent preoperative MRI. The longest lymph node diameter was measured and a cut-off value for positive lymph node metastasis was established based on a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. A logistic model was constructed based on MRI findings and risk factors for lymph node metastasis extracted from logistic-regression analysis. The diagnostic capabilities of MRI alone and those of the logistic model were compared using the area under the curve (AUC) of the ROC curve. Results: The cut-off value was a diameter of 5.47 mm. Diagnosis using MRI had an accuracy of 65.9%, sensitivity 73.5%, specificity 61.3%, positive predictive value (PPV) 62.9%, and negative predictive value (NPV) 72.2% [AUC: 0.6739 (95%CI: 0.6016-0.7388)]. Age (<59) (p=0.0163), pT (T3+T4) (p=0.0001), and BMI (<23.5) (p=0.0003) were extracted as independent risk factors for lymph node metastasis. Diagnosis using MRI with the logistic model had an accuracy of 75.0%, sensitivity 72.3%, specificity 77.4%, PPV 74.1%, and NPV 75.8% [AUC: 0.7853 (95%CI: 0.7098-0.8454)], showing a significantly improved diagnostic capacity using the logistic model (p=0.0002). Conclusions: A logistic model including risk factors for lymph node metastasis can improve the accuracy of MRI diagnosis of rectal cancer.

        「シネマ57」がアマチュアに求めた映畵表現 ―映畵制作者の存在を觀客に開示する技法と「主體」―

        本論は、1950年代末に活動した實驗的映畵の硏究·制作グル一プである「シネマ57」が當時のアマチュア映畵から、映畵においてその制作者の存在を開示する表現技法探求の面においていかなる影響を受けているかを明らかにしている。 第二次世界大戰終戰後、徐?に戰前の活況を取り?しつつあったアマチュア映畵界では、羽仁進や勅使河原宏ら、當時の若手映畵監督からも注目されるような高い質の映畵を作る者もいた。羽仁らが所屬した「シネマ57」はそのような映畵を取りあげて批評し、アマチュアが制作時に資金面や行動範圍において大きな制約を受けている特徵を擧げ、だからこそ身近な素材や出來事を掘り下げていくような映畵が多作されることを指摘した。例えば「シネマ57」は家族のイヴェントを題材とするような映畵では、撮影者と被寫體の關係を表現するような撮り方がなされていることに着目し、それは「シネマ57」が求めた「作家の眼」の表現にも應用される表現であった。さらに、上記のような、映畵制作者の存在を觀客に開示する映畵表現の探求は、映畵監督の「主體」をいかに表現すべきかということを巡って展開される日本の新しい波ヌ一ヴェルヴァ一グの活動の端緖として理解される。 This paper clarifies that, “Cinema 57”, a research and production group of experimental movies that was active in the late 1950s, was influenced in any way from the amateur movie of the time in terms of the expression technique exploration that discloses the creator’s existence in the movie. In the amateur movie circle, which gradually recovered the boom before, those who made high quality movies that attracted attention from young film director at that time, such as Hani Susumu and Teshigahara Hiroshi. “Cinema 57” belonging to Hani and Teshigahara, criticized such a movie and pointed out that amateurs are subject to great restrictions in terms of finance and action at the time of production compared to professional, and that’s why the familiar materials and events, so they also pointed out that movies that will delve the fmiliar ivents will be prolific. “Cinema 57” focuses on the fact that the way of making a movie like expressing the relationship between the camera and the subject, especially with families and friends events, and that “Cinema 57” sought for the expression of “the eye of the author”. The search for movie expressions that disclose the existence of filmmakers to audiences as the beginning of the activity of the new wave of Japan (Nouvelle Vague) developed around how to express the “subject” of the film director.

        戦中ㆍ戦後日本映画における連続性批判の考察 ―日本の「新しい波」による批評を切り口に―

        本論は映画監督の大島渚と松本俊夫による日本映画における戦爭ㆍ戦後責任の指摘を切り口にして、戦中の戦爭プロパガンダ映画と戦後の平和主義的映画の連続性について考察し、その上で大島の『飼育』を取り上げて彼がいかに戦爭ㆍ戦後責任の問題に取り組んだのかを明らかにするものである。 本論では特に大島らによる批判の対象となった木下惠介の『二十四の瞳』を例に挙げる。そして同作が平和主義的なテ一マでありながら、軍国主義的な表象がなされていることを、彼の戦爭プロパガンダ映画との共通点を見出しながら指摘する。 その上で大島渚の『飼育』を分析し、一般人が加害者としての一面を持っていた点を映画で表されていることを指摘し、戦爭ㆍ戦後責任の表象について考察する。 This paper considers the continuity of war propaganda films and post-war pacifist films, based on the criticism of war responsibility and post-war responsibility in Japanese films by film directors Oshima Nagisa and Matsumoto Toshio. On that basis, Oshima's “The Catch(Shiiku)” is taken up to clarify how he tackled the issue of war responsibility and post-war responsibility. In this paper, I will cite “Twenty-four Eyes” by Kinoshita Keisuke, who was especially criticized by Oshima. And this paper points out that the work is a pacifistic theme, but that it has a militaristic representation, while finding similarities with his war propaganda film. On that basis, I will analyze Oshima Kaoru's “breeding”, point out that the citizens have represented one aspect of the perpetrators in movies, and consider the representation of war responsibility and post-war responsibility.

      • Discussion of Alternating Muscular Activity for the Design of an Automatic Saddle Positioning System

        This study has been aiming to develop a system that optimizes the mechanical settings of a cycle road racer against rider"s physical properties. At present, even skilled cyclist, riders have to rely on their riding feelings and/or advice of trainer, coach, and expert rider. Neither numerical evaluation method nor effective instrument has been used. Therefore, most of cyclists strongly desire the system that helps to find the best positions of saddle and handle only keeping pedaling motion on the experimental device. Now, the authors are constructing an automatic saddle positioning device, in which saddle"s horizontal position, longitudinal height, and angle are automatically controlled during pedaling motion. These degrees will be adjusted by the basis of analyzing muscular activity data of lower limbs deeply related in pedaling exercise. Surface electromyography (SEMG) of lower limb is measured to estimate the muscular activity of each muscle. In addition, the muscular activity form of lower limb in pedaling motion is evaluated with principal component analysis. This paper describes a system structure, an experimental protocol, and discusses the experimental results.
