        The first record of genus Bruggmanniella (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) from Taiwan with description of a new species inducing bud galls on Neolitsea parvigemma (Lauraceae)

        The genus Bruggmanniella Tavares is newly discovered from Taiwan and Bruggmanniella brevipes sp. n. is described as new to science. This is the southernmost species of Bruggmanniella found in the Old World. Furthermore, the gall midge induces bud galls on Neolitsea parvigemma (Hayata) Kaneh (Lauraceae), an endemic species in Taiwan, and the plant genus Neolitsea is the third host genus of Lauraceae-associated Bruggmanniella in East Asia. The knowledge of its distribution and host information provide us to shed the light on evolutionary and biogeography issue of East Asian Bruggmanniella.

        Research Articles : The Influence of Challenge on Cathepsin B and D Expression Patterns in the Silkworm Bombyx mori L

        Cathepsins are well-characterized proteases that are ubiquitously expressed in lysosomes. Previous work revealed that Bombyx mori cathepsins B and D are expressed in the fat body and undergo decomposition during larval-pupal metamorphosis. Quantitative RTPCR was performed to detect cathepsin gene expression at the transcription level when challenged by B. mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV), temperature and hormones (20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and juvenile hormone analogue (JHA)). mRNAs encoding cathepsins B and D were significantly enhanced after the larvae were infected with BmNPV, and the peak of the induction appeared at 1 day before spinning. This attenuated the inducing effect on cathepsin expression caused by infection. Temperature shock induced cathepsin expression at the later stage of the 5th instar, and transcription levels varied with development stage and temperature. Cathepsin B and D mRNA expression in the fat body were significantly induced by JHA at the day before spinning, and with 20E, the expression reached a peak at the last day of the 5th instar. Cathepsin B and D mRNA expression exhibited detectable changes post-treatment, without significant differences between or among the hormone concentrations.

        Creep Constitutive Model for Frozen Soils Based on Hardening and Damage Effects

        The creep characteristics of frozen soil has significant influences on infrastructure stability in cold regions. It is important for frozen ground engineering to describe the creep properties of frozen soil with accurate models. In this research, a new structure creep model is developed by considering the hardening factor and damage factor which play different roles during various creep stages. According to the experimental results under different stress levels, the proposed model was verified. The calculation results exhibit the proposed model has abilities to predict the creep characteristics of frozen soils, especially the nonlinear stress-strain behavior at acceleration creep stage.

      • Performance Analysis of Packet Transport Network Communication for Integrated Wide-Area Protection

        As a new protection, wide-area protection enables protective relaying, and automatic control based on electric power system network communications and comprehensive judgment of multi-point information, which plays an increasingly important role in the secure and stable operation of electric power system. Interaction of wide-area information relies on communication network featuring high reliability and low time delay. On the other hand, most service of power transformation station is gradually towards IP and data oriented, along with the development of smart grid. This paper aims to introduce the wide-area protection technology supported by Packet Transport Network (PTN) communication technology, with analyzing the QoS (Quality of Service) network assurance architecture of PTN network, which establishes three planes, including transport plane, management plane, and control plane, based on ASON (Automatically Switched Optical Network) technology. After demonstrating the QoS assurance system of PTN from traffic control and transmission route, this paper introduces PTN networking test. Based on detailed parameters in the test results, the transmission performance of PTN on time delay, protection, and time synchronization of various electric power communication services are analyzed, with showing that PTN can fully meet the requirements of electric power communication.

        New DTR Estimation Method Without Measured Solar and Wind Data

        Dynamic thermal rating (DTR) of overhead transmission lines can provide a significant increase in transmission capacity compared to the static thermal rating. However, the DTR are usually estimated by the traditional thermal model of overhead conductor that is highly dependent on the solar, wind speed and wind direction data. Consequently, the estimated DTR would be unreliable and the safety of transmission lines would be reduced when the solar and wind sensors are out of function. To address this issue, this study proposed a novel thermal model of overhead conductor based on the thermal-electric analogy theory and Markov chain. Using this thermal model, the random variation of conductor temperature can be simulated with any specific current level and ambient temperature, even if the solar and wind sensors are out of function or uninstalled. On this basis, an estimation method was proposed to determine the DTR in the form of probability. The laboratory experiments prove that the proposed method can estimate the DTR reliably without measured solar and wind data.

        베이징어는 강세 언어이다(下)

        이 논문은 2016년 9월, 《語言科學》第15卷에 수록된 馮勝利의 논문 <北京活是一个重音語言>을 국문으로 번역한 것이다. 원문은 1. 베이징어의 음절과 어휘, 2. 베이징어의 ‘음보’, 3. 운율단어의 ‘좌향 단어 형성’과 ‘우향 구 형성’, 4. 베이징어의 ‘강세등급’, 5. 베이징어 강세 대립 문체 기능, 6. 베이징어 강세에 대한 실험음성학적 증거, 7. 결론으로 이루어져 있다. 본문은 지난 46輯에 실린 <베이징어는 강세 언어이다(상)>에 이어 4절부터 7절까지를 번역하였다. 저자 馮勝利는 베이징어에 대해 비록 영어와 같이 강세중심(stress-timed)의 언어는 아니지만, 강세언어의 한 유형임을 여러 각도에서 논증하고 있다. 본문의 제4장에서는 베이징어의 강세가 음절뿐만 아니라 구의 각 층위마다 여러 등급의 강세를 지니고 있음을 예증하고 있으며, 제5장에서는 베이징어에서 강세 대립이 문어체와 구어체, 시가의 운율 등의 문체를 나타내는 기능을 수행한다는 점을 들어 강세의 기능이 형태와 통사에 그치지 않는다는 것을 보여준다. 나아가 제6장에서는 실험음성학이라는 과학적 방법을 통해 베이징어의 강세를 물리적인 측면에서 검증하면서 주장의 근거를 확보하고 있다. This paper discusses stress in Beijing Mandarin. It is argued that though not stress-timed like English, Beijing Mandarin is a type of stress language based on its prosodic prominence signified by prosodic categories (syllabic units) that affect morphology and syntax in the language. Features and functions of stress are seen at each layer of the Prosodic Hierarchy and each zone of Cartographical Syntax, namely, syllable, foot, prosodic word and VP-prosody (nuclear stress), TP-prosody (focus stress) as well as CP-prosody (intonation). The argument made here claims that given the different types of prominent behaviors at different syntactic levels (and prosodic layers) proposed here, it is not only plausible to understand the properties of stress in Beijing Mandarin in depth, but also to enable us to make advances and discoveries in prosodic phonology, prosodic morphology and prosodic syntax.

        Electroencephalographic spectrogram–guided total intravenous anesthesia using dexmedetomidine and propofol prevents unnecessary anesthetic dosing during craniotomy: a propensity score–matched analysis

        Background: The bispectral index (BIS) may be unreliable to gauge anesthetic depth when dexmedetomidine is administered. By comparison, the electroencephalogram (EEG) spectrogram enables the visualization of the brain response during anesthesia and may prevent unnecessary anesthetic consumption. Methods: This retrospective study included 140 adult patients undergoing elective craniotomy who received total intravenous anesthesia using a combination of propofol and dexmedetomidine infusions. Patients were equally matched to the spectrogram group (maintaining the robust EEG alpha power during surgery) or the index group (maintaining the BIS score between 40 and 60 during surgery) based on the propensity score of age and surgical type. The primary outcome was the propofol dose. Secondary outcome was the postoperative neurological profile.Results: Patients in the spectrogram group received significantly less propofol (1585 ± 581 vs. 2314 ± 810 mg, P < 0.001). Fewer patients in the spectrogram group exhibited delayed emergence (1.4% vs. 11.4%, P = 0.033). The postoperative delirium profile was similar between the groups (profile P = 0.227). Patients in the spectrogram group exhibited better in-hospital Barthel’s index scores changes (admission state: 83.6 ± 27.6 vs. 91.6 ± 17.1; discharge state: 86.4 ± 24.3 vs. 85.1 ± 21.5; group–time interaction P = 0.008). However, the incidence of postoperative neurological complications was similar between the groups.Conclusions: EEG spectrogram–guided anesthesia prevents unnecessary anesthetic consumption during elective craniotomy. This may also prevent delayed emergence and improve postoperative Barthel index scores.
