Luxury fashion consumption in sharing economy: A study of Indian millennials

Sheetal Jain,Sita Mishra 한국마케팅과학회 2020 Journal of Global Fashion Marketing Vol.11 No.2

Recently, the trend of sharing economy has gained popularity in fashion, particularly among millennials. Few studies in the past have focused on sharing economy in the clothing industry, mainly in the US and European context. However, whether this global phenomenon of sharing economy will work in emerging markets for the luxury fashion industry is still unknown. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to understand the impact of the various key factors viz. economic benefits, fashion involvement, self-pleasing experience, social projection, perceived risk, and past sustainable behavior on luxury consumption behavior in the sharing economy. Self-determination Theory (SDT) perspective was adopted to show what motivates Indian millennials to participate in luxury fashion rental consumption. Probability sampling techniquewas used to collect data from Indianmillennials who aspired to use luxury fashion brands on a sharing basis. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted, followed by multi-group analysis and path estimates to test the hypothesized relationships. The results of the study indicated “social projection value” as the most significant predictor of intention to consume luxury fashion on a sharing basis. Furthermore, the effect of perceived risk and the influence of past sustainable behavior on young consumers’ luxury fashion rental consumption was also found to be significant.

A Uniformly Convergent Numerical Method for a Weakly Coupled System of Singularly Perturbed Convection-Diffusion Problems with Boundary and Weak Interior Layers

Sheetal Chawla,S. Chandra Sekhara Rao 한국전산응용수학회 2015 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.33 No.5

We consider a weakly coupled system of singularly perturbed convection-diffusion equations with discontinuous source term. The diffusion term of each equation is associated with a small positive parameter of different magnitude. Presence of discontinuity and different parameters creates boundary and weak interior layers that overlap and interact. A numerical method is constructed for this problem which involves an appropriate piecewise uniform Shishkin mesh. The numerical approximations are proved to converge to the continuous solutions uniformly with respect to the singular perturbation parameters. Numerical results are presented which illustrates the theoretical results.

Development of phenytoin intranasal microemulsion for treatment of epilepsy

        Sheetal Porecha Acharya,K. Pundarikakshudu,Pratik Upadhyay,Pragna Shelat,Anita Lalwani 한국약제학회 2015 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.45 No.4

The objective of the present investigation was to prepare phenytoin microemulsion for intranasal administration by application of experimental design. Phenytoin microemulsion was prepared by water titration method. The concentration of oil (X1), surfactant (X2) and cosurfactant (X3) were selected as independent variables, in a simplex centroid design, from microemulsion region obtained from pseuodoternary phase diagram while the globule size (Y1) and cumulative phenytoin diffused at 60 min (Y2) through sheep nasal mucosa were taken as dependent variables. Mathematical models were generated for the response variables. The validity of the generated equations was established using check point batches. Microemulsion that had a smaller globule size of dispersed phase and high level of % drug diffusion was desirable. The generated mathematical equations were used to identify the desirable zone where all the criteria for the responses were satisfied and an optimum batch was recognized. Ex-vivo study of optimum microemulsion on sheep nasal mucosa shows absence of nasal toxicity. It was found that faster recovery from seizures was obtained in rats treated with intra nasal phenytoin microemulsion in comparison to the rats treated with oral microemulsion and nasal solution. Higher concentration of phenytoin was found in rats treated with intranasal microemulsion in comparison to the rats treated with phenytoin solution administered intraperitoneally. Gamma scintigraphy results also suggested faster availability of drug into brain when microemulsion was administered intranasally.

      • A Smart and Automated Negotiation System based on Linear Programming in a Multilateral Environment

        Sheetal Vij,Madhur Patrikar,Debajyoti Mukhopad,Avinash Agrawal 한국산학기술학회 2015 SmartCR Vol.5 No.6

Automated negotiation is a branch of e-commerce. Successful management of purchase and sale activities depends not only on selecting the right products or services but also on choosing the best method for buying and selling them. We propose a linear programming and pattern matching–based multilateral automated negotiation system. We compared some methods of automated negotiation. A multilateral negotiation system gives better results for participants than bilateral automated negotiation. The technique of pattern matching–based automated negotiation gives fast results and reduces the overhead from calculations. Automated negotiations are not an easy task without the interactions of human beings. Automated negotiation can be done in bilateral or multilateral environments. In this paper, we consider many-to-many negotiations where agents concurrently negotiate with many other agents. In this paper, we also propose a matrix method to manage the concurrent negotiations conducted by multiple buyer agents with multiple seller agents.

        APPROXIMATION BY MODIFIED POST-WIDDER OPERATORS

        ( Sheetal Deshwal ),( Rupesh K. Srivastav ),( Gopi Prasad ) 한국수학교육학회 2023 純粹 및 應用數學 Vol.30 No.1

The current article manages with new generalization of Post-Widder operators preserving constant function and other test functions in Bohmann-Korovkin sense and studies the approximation properties via different estimation tools like modulus of continuity and approximation in weighted spaces. The viability of the recently modified operators as per classical Post-Widder operators is introduced in specific faculties also. Numerical examples are additionally introduced to verify our theortical results. In second last section we introduce Grüss-Voronovskaya results and in last section, we show the better approximation our new modified operators via graphical exmaples using Mathematica.

      • Stabilizing Poverty in the Context of the IMF’s Monetary Model

Sheetal K. Chand 연세대학교 빈곤문제국제개발연구원 2012 Journal of Poverty Alleviation and International D Vol.3 No.1

The IMF monetary model focuses on the balance of payments. This paper adds a poverty stabilization objective to it. Drawing on statistical income distribution theory, key aspects of the head count poverty indicator are introduced. The resulting model reproduces traditional balance of payments policy prescriptions, while showing their implications for the incidence of poverty. A balance of payments-poverty tradeoff relationship is derived. This facilitates analysis of pre-emptive policies that can stabilize the incidence of poverty when undertaking balance of payments adjustment, thereby reducing the need for costly alleviation. The suggested approach is illustrated in the context of Mexico’s 1995 stabilization episode.

Critical success factors for luxury fashion brands in emerging markets: Insights from a qualitative study

Jain Sheetal,Mishra Sita,Mukhopadhyay Sandip 한국마케팅과학회 2021 Journal of Global Fashion Marketing Vol.12 No.1

Creating and maintaining a successful luxury brand has many challenges. In emerging markets like India, brands face additional challenges due to the smaller size of the market as well as consumer’s general preference for value over luxury. Based on a qualitative approach, the study aims to empirically develop an analytical framework of the critical success factors (CSFs) for luxury brands keeping in mind the uniqueness of the emerging markets. This study involved semi-structured in-depth interviews with 18 senior managers with varying experience in luxury fashion industry, supported by secondary research such as internal documents and media reports. The study identifies 10 interrelated CSFs, which are categorized into two broad categories, i.e., Core CSFs and Augmentative CSFs. Based on consumer maturity and brand status, four types of consumption patterns (aspirational, conspicuous, experiential, and heritage) for luxury brands are also identified. Managers can use our CSF framework along with the consumption pattern matrix for efficient luxury brand management.

      • USING AN ALGORITHM TO IDENTIFY CULTURAL ANTECEDENTS OF SUPPORT FOR ALGORITHMS: THE ROLE OF POWER DISTANCE

        Abhishek Sheetal,Lijun Shirley Zhang,Shilpa Madan,Krishna Savani 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07

Algorithms are rapidly altering the way society operates (SIOP, 2020). Algorithms are used in modern businesses for tasks such as hiring, advising investors on financial matters, recommending new products to customers (Shankar, 2018). However, lay people frequently oppose them, a phenomenon known as algorithm aversion (e.g., Dietvorst et al., 2015). While prior research tries to address this issue by identifying cognitive and affective predictors of algorithm aversion, we seek to contribute to the algorithm aversion literature by investigating an understudied antecedent of people’s support for algorithm adoption—their cultural values (Dietvorst & Bartels, 2022).

      • The IL-1 family member 7b translocates to the nucleus and down-regulates proinflammatory cytokines.

        Sharma, Sheetal,Kulk, Nicole,Nold, Marcel F,Grä,f, Ralph,Kim, Soo-Hyun,Reinhardt, Dietrich,Dinarello, Charles A,Bufler, Philip Williams Wilkins 2008 JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGY Vol.180 No.8

<P>The IL-1 family member 7b (IL-1F7b) is a novel homolog of the IL-1 cytokine family discovered by computational cloning. We have reported that IL-1F7b shares critical amino acid residues with IL-18 and binds the IL-18-binding protein; in doing so, IL-1F7b augments the inhibition of IFN-gamma by the IL-18-binding protein. IL-1F7b also binds IL-18Ralpha but neither induces signal nor acts as a receptor antagonist. Hence, the function of IL-1F7b remains unknown. In the present study, we analyzed the intracellular expression pattern of IL-1F7b. Using two variants of GFP fusion constructs of human IL-1F7b stably expressed in RAW macrophages, only the postcleavage mature form of the IL-1F7b precursor-but not the N-terminal propiece-specifically translocates to the nucleus following LPS stimulation. IL-1F7b, like IL-1beta, IL-18, and IL-33, is processed by caspase-1 to generate the mature cytokines. Therefore, we tested whether caspase-1-mediated cleavage of the IL-1F7b precursor is required for mature IL-1F7b to translocate actively into the nucleus. Indeed, a specific caspase-1 inhibitor markedly reduced nuclear entry of IL-1F7b. In stable transfectants of human IL-1F7b in RAW macrophages stimulated with LPS, levels of TNF-alpha, IL-1alpha, IL-6, as well as the chemokine MIP-2, were substantially reduced (72-98%) compared with LPS-stimulated cells transfected with the empty plasmid. These results demonstrate that IL-1F7b translocates to the nucleus after caspase-1 processing and may act as a transcriptional modulator reducing the production of LPS-stimulated proinflammatory cytokines, consistent with IL-1F7b being an anti-inflammatory member of the IL-1 family.</P>
