Vol.19 No.2

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the properties to be primarily focused to improve by the selection attribute of tea house using IPA. Also, it categorized consumer types by tea involvement levels and observed what differences exist in perceptions regarding the importance of tea house selection attribute and satisfaction according to consumer types. For this study, a total of 300 surveys were given to tea consumers and a total of 246 surveys were used as valid samples. For the analysis of this study, IPA of tea house was conducted and MANOVA was conducted according to consumer types. Analysis results showed that the second quadrant, which displayed high importance and low satisfaction, is an area needing concentrated management and improvement and this applied to ease of access, tea menu prices, and worker professionality. An IPA of tea house selection attribute according to tea consumer types showed significant differences. Based on this, implications for the tea industry are presented.

The Effects of a Korean Ginseng, GINST15, on Hypo-Pituitary-Adrenal and Oxidative Activity Induced by Intense Work Stress

        Shawn D. Flanagan,William H. DuPont,Lydia K. Caldwell,Vincent H. Hardesty,Emily C. Barnhart,Matthew K. Beeler,Emily M. Post,Jeff S. Volek,William J. Kraemer 한국식품영양과학회 2018 Journal of medicinal food Vol.21 No.1

The effect of GINST15, an enzyme fermented ginseng supplement, on hormonal and inflammatory responses to physical stress in humans is unknown. The purpose of this investigation was to examine the constitutive and stress-induced effects of GINST15 supplement on hypo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) and antioxidant activity in addition to muscle damage. Ten women (age: 38.7 ± 7.8 years; height: 163.81 ± 4.4 cm; body mass 76.0 ± 11.6 kg) and nine men (age: 41.2. ± 9.7 years; height: 177.4 ± 5.3 cm; body mass: 88.5 ± 5.0 kg) participated in a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, counterbalanced within-group study. Participants completed three 14-day treatment cycles with different doses (high: 960 mg; low: 160 mg; placebo: 0 mg) separated by a 1-week washout period. At the end of treatment, physical stress was imposed with intense resistance exercise work stress. Participants provided blood at rest and various time points after exercise (immediately [IP], 30 min [30], 60 min [60], 24 h [+24HR]). Cortisol (CORT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), total glutathione, nonspecific antioxidant activity, total antioxidant power (TAP), and creatine kinase were measured. GINST15 supplementation produced stress-inducible dose-dependent reductions in circulating cortisol and increased enzymatic and nonspecific antioxidant activity. Twenty-four hours after intense exercise, a high dose GINST15, a bioactive ginsenoside metabolite, significantly reduces muscle damage and HPA responses to physical stress in humans; these effects may result from increased antioxidant expression.

Maternal Separation Does Not Produce a Significant Behavioral Change in Mice

        Shawn Tan,Hin San Ho,송윤수,Joey Low,제현수 한국뇌신경과학회 2017 Experimental Neurobiology Vol.26 No.6

Early life adversities together with genetic predispositions have been associated with elevated risks of neuropsychiatric disorders during later life. In order to investigate the underlying mechanisms, many chronic, early-life stress paradigms in multiple animal models have been developed. Previously, studies reported that maternal separation (MS) in the early postnatal stages triggers depression- and/or anxiety-like behaviors in rats. However, similar studies using mice have reported inconsistent behavioral outcomes. In this study, we sought to assess behavioral outcomes from two different early-life stress paradigms; a conventional 3-hour MS and a maternal separation with early weaning (MSEW) paradigm using C57BL/6J male mice with independent cohorts. Our data demonstrated that both MS and MSEW paradigms did not produce reported behavioral anomalies. Therefore, MS paradigms in mice require further validation and modification.

Brassica carinata CIL1 Mediates Extracellular ROS Production During Auxin- and ABA-regulated Lateral Root Development

        Shawn W. Gibson,Alix J. Conway,Zhifu Zheng,Tina M. Uchacz,Janet L. Taylor,Christopher D.Todd 한국식물학회 2012 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.55 No.5

In the plant cytoplasm signals from multiple sources interact to control development. Lateral root proliferation is controlled by the antagonistic action of the hormones auxin and abscisic acid (ABA). Auxin stimulates the separation of pericycle initials and cell expansion. ABA is required for lateral root initiation and elongation and acts as an antagonist through auxin-dependent pathways. These hormones also mediate reactive oxygen species (ROS)accumulation in growing roots and promote cell expansion. We describe the isolation and characterization of a copperand auxin-induced gene, COPPER INDUCED in LEAVES (CIL1), from Brassica carinata. Transgenic B. carinata seedlings expressing antisense CIL1 were used to determine the biological function of this gene. Lines with reduced CIL1expression showed a decrease in lateral root development, as well as reduced sensitivity to auxin and ABA. Steady-state analysis of redox components showed a decrease in NADPH oxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activity, accompanied by an increase in hydrogen peroxide concentration. GFP-tagged CIL1 accumulated at the plasma membrane and in the apoplast indicating CIL1 is likely extracellular. From these data we propose that CIL1 is an extracellular protein involved in ROS cycling mediating auxin and ABA signals.

      • STRATEGIC ENTREPRENEURIALISM IN ANALYSIS: GLOBAL PROBLEMS IN RESEARCH

        Shawn M Carraher,M Ronald Buckley,Joseph A Cote People&Global Business Association 2000 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.5 No.2

A decade ago, a series of published articles debated the amount of method variance in organizational measures from all over' the world (Bagozzi and Yi, 1990; Spector, 1987; Williams, Cote, and Buckley, 1989). Interestingly, while all three studies analyzed the same data sets, they reached different conclusions concerning the presence of method variance. Spector (1987) reported that method effects were relatively minor, Bagozzi and Yi (1990) found them to be of moderate importance, and Williams et al. (1989) found method effects to be quite pervasive. Up to this time, no one has offered reasonable explanations as to why these results were found. While some of the differences in results may be due to the use of different analytic methods; even the use of the same technique (Confirmatory Factor Analysis - CFA) resulted in different conclusions. The differences found by these researchers (Bagozzi and Yi, 1990; Williams et al., 1989) are likely due to the multiple solutions problem caused by factor indeterminacy which is common with factor analytic techniques which is likely to exist with domestic and international data (Cattell and Gorsuch, 1963; Gorsuch, 1974; 1983; Rozeboom, 1992). A series of simulations were performed which indicate that there are, in fact, many reasonable solutions which can be fit to MTMM data using CFA and that therefore it appears that the multiple solutions problem is also significant for CFA as it is for other factor analytic methods. Some possible remedies for the problem of fitting MTMM models are proposed. We suggest that researchers need to be adaptable in the analytic methods which they employ and the topics that they explore (entrepreneurial researchers) and to carefully examine their data so that the research questions match the capabilities of the techniques utilized.
