        Aristoyunnolin H attenuates extracellular matrix secretion in cardiac fibroblasts by inhibiting calcium influx

        Aristoyunnolin H is a novel aristophyllenesesquiterpenoid isolated from the traditional Chinese medicineAristolochia yunnanensis Franch. The presentresearch was designed to explore the anti-fibrotic effects ofaristoyunnolin H in adult rat cardiac fibroblasts (CFs)stimulated with angiotensin II (Ang II). Western blotanalysis data showed that aristoyunnolin H reduced theupregulation of fibronectin (FN), connective tissue growthfactor and collagen I(Col I) production induced by Ang II inCFs. By studying the dynamic intracellular changes ofCa2?, we further found that while aristoyunnolin H relievedthe calcium influx, it has no effect on intracellular calciumstore release. Meanwhile, aristoyunnolin H also inhibitedthe Ang II-stimulated phosphorylation of Ca2?/calmodulindependentprotein kinase II. In conclusion, aristoyunnolin Hmay attenuate extracellular matrix secretion in vitro byinhibiting Ang II-induced calcium signaling.

      • Design of a Bidirectional DC/AC Converter with Battery Charging/Discharging/Standing Balance Control

        Battery cells connected in series have been widely used in high-voltage and high-power applications. In this paper, a single-phase battery energy storage system with battery balance charging, battery balance discharging, and power factor correction capabilities was developed. A prototype suitable for a single-phase 110V power supply was designed and implemented for verification. To verify its performance, three 48V/7Ah battery modules were used as normal batteries, and a 48V/5Ah battery module was used as a retired battery. The experimental results showed that the battery energy storage system has excellent battery balancing capability. Compared with that of the conventional system without balanced control, the balancing performance of the proposed system is increased by about 15.25% and 26.92%, respectively, when the system was operated in the converter and rectifier modes. In addition, the proposed system also had battery fault tolerance, and was compatible with recycled batteries and an independent power supply.

        Morphology-dependent Optical Properties of One-dimensional Nanostructure-arrayed Silicon

        The optical properties of one-dimensional nanostructure-arrayed silicon (1DNSASi), which wasfabricated by the metal assisted electroless chemical etching method under different conditions,were characterized in the wavelength range of 220 - 1000 nm. Whether the optical absorption ofthe 1DNSASi was enhanced relative to that of the polished Si was determined from the detailedmorphology of the 1D nanostructures. For the yellow 1DNSASi prepared at a high etchant concentrationand high temperatures, its optical absorption was relatively nice in the ultraviolet lightregion, while a gradual attenuation was shown in the visible and the near-infrared regions, and theoptical absorption was lower than that of the polished Si at wavelengths above 800 nm. When theeffects of zeroth-order reflectance and zero transmission were combined, the optical absorption ofthe black 1DNSASi prepared at a low etchant concentration and room temperature was very high(> 99%) in the wavelength range of 220 - 1030 nm and displayed a slight decrease at wavelengthsabove 1030 nm. Our results demonstrate that the optical absorption of the black 1DNSASi couldbe further improved by increasing the etching depth and exhibited its measurable maximum valuewhen the etching depth was large enough. These results indicate that the 1DNSASi may be apromising candidate for high-efficiency photovoltaic devices, high-sensitivity sensors and detectors.

      • Research on the Construction Strategy of Information Model for Manchuria Style Architecture and Its Application

        “Manchuria style architecture” is an important landmark of colonial architecture in modern China. It shows the combination of western classicism and oriental national style in specific historic context. Its sturdy structure and superb technology are of great academic significance for studies of cross-regional building spectrum. Based on the building information modeling technology, the mapping analysis and three-dimensional reconstruction of Manchuria style architecture is conducive to promoting the routine administration of life cycle information management of historic buildings. Besides, the stirps models date base of the building components established in the research process will provide a multi-dimensional and more accurate database for the study of modern architecture heritage with reinforced concrete frame structure. As research continues, the real-time detection information transmission interface and the virtual historic building situation will be constructed, which will open up new opportunities for the studies of the preventive conservation, cultural value and educational value of historic buildings in China.

        Tri-stimuli responsive carbon nanotubes covered by mesoporous silica graft copolymer multifunctional materials for intracellular drug delivery

        To overcome premature drug leakage and instability in drug delivery systems, we designed tri-stimuliresponsive multiwalled carbon nanotubes covered by mesoporous silica graft poly(N-isopropylacryla-mide-block-poly(2-(4-formylbenzoyloxy) ethyl methacrylate) multifunctional materials via disulfidelinkages (MWCNTs@MSN-s-s-g-PNIPAM-b-PFBEMA). The multifunctional materials could covalentlybind and physically load anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX), and exhibited pH-, temperature- andreductant-induced multi-stimuli responsiveness, significantly enhancing drug loading capacity andimproving the release dynamics of drug. The DOX-loaded multifunctional materials exhibited theoptimal release behavior in cancer environments compared with in normal cells upon simultaneouslytriggered by these stimuli. It meant that the MWCNTs@MSN-s-s-g-PNIPAM-b-PFBEMA could serve asefficient gatekeepers to control the mesopore on–off and thus to modulate drug release. Themultifunctional materials were proved to be low toxic, whereas the DOX-loaded counterparts had almostthe same toxicity as free DOX to cancer cells. Therefore, the developed multifunctional materials can beused as promising drug controlled delivery platforms for cancer therapy.

      • Research on the Application of Building Information Model Technology in the Design of Urban Residential Buildings in Cold Region

        The design of urban residential buildings in cold region is different from that in low latitude region, or the design of general public buildings. The precise grasp of dwelling unit type and appearance style, effective control of building heating and thermal insulation efficiency and the implementation of the sustainable concept of low cost construction and environmental protection are dependent on the early scientific and rational design. And the building information model technology just acts as a platform for the optimization of the design. The study is based on the engineering projects; the planning, the design of building facade, collision detection optimization and the full participation of construction cost control in building information model provide a new train of thoughts and research reference for the residential design in cold region, in the context of the digital age, and to a certain extent, the study looks forward to the future urban residential design and construction industrialization prospect in the cold region .         The Influence of Vegetation Variation on Northeast Asian Dust Activity

        In this study, we investigate the influence of vegetation variations on dust activity (dust load, dust transport in the troposphere,and dust weather frequency) over Northeast Asia during springtime. By using the Integrated Wind Erosion Modeling System,two model experiments are run over four-month periods, from February 1 to May 31, for each year from 1982 to 2006; one experiment uses the observed atmospheric conditions and vegetation (OBS), and the other uses the specified atmospheric conditions in 2006 and the observed vegetation (CTRL). Comparison of the two model experiments reveals that there are sensitive regions in southeastern Mongolia and central northern China, in which vegetation has a large potential to influence dust activity due to both the high dust emission rate and large variations in vegetation coverage. Over these sensitive regions,vegetation effectively lessens dust loads on interannual and interdecadal timescales; dust load is decreased by 2864 μg m−2 for an increment of 0.1 in the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Vegetation increase in the sensitive areas also reduces two major branches of dust transports in the low troposphere; one stretches from eastern Mongolia to regions northeastward, and the other flows across the south of northeastern China to Korea. In addition to dust loads and transports, vegetation increase in the sensitive areas evidently decreases dust storm frequency and blowing dust frequency, but it exerts a weak influence on the floating dust frequency. In the sensitive regions, as NDVI increases by 0.1, dust storms, blowing dust,and floating dust decrease by 4.0 days/spring, 1.5 days/spring, and 0.2 days/spring, respectively. In summary, vegetation variations in southeastern Mongolia and central northern China have considerable impact on northeast Asian dust during springtime.

      • Surgical Treatment for Early Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        More studies are needed to clarify treatments and prognosis of early esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). This retrospective study was designed to review the outcome of surgical treatment for early ESCC, evaluate the results of a left thoracotomy for selected patients with early ESCC, and identify factors affecting lymph node metastases and survival. The clinicopathological data of 228 patients with early ESCC who underwent transthoracic esophagectomy with lymphadenectomy without preoperative adjuvant treatment were reviewed. The ${\chi}^2$ test or Fisher's exact test were used to detect factors related to lymph node metastasis. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify prognostic factors. There were 152 males and 76 females with a median age of 55 years. Two hundred and eight patients underwent a left thoracotomy, and the remaining 20 patients with lymph nodes in the upper mediastinum more than 5 mm in short-axis diameter by computed tomography scan underwent a right thoracotomy. No lymph node metastasis was found in the 18 patients with carcinoma in situ, while lymph node metastases were detected in 1.6% (1/62) of patients with mucosal tumours and 18.2% (27/148) of patients with submucosal tumours. Only 7 patients showed upper mediastinal lymph node metastases in the follow-up. The 5- and 10-year overall survival rates were 81.4% and 70.1%, respectively. Only histologic grade (P<0.001) and pT category (P=0.001) significantly correlated with the presence of lymph node metastases. In multivariate analysis, only histologic grade (P=0.026) and pT category (P=0.008) were independent prognostic factors. A left thoracotomy is acceptable for selected patients with early ESCC. Histologic grade and pT category affected the presence of lymph node metastases and were independent prognostic factors for early ESCC.
