Setiawan Rangga,Christi Raden Febrianto,Alhuur Ken Ratu Gharizah,Widyastuti Rini,Solihati Nurcholidah,Rasad Siti Darodjah,Hidajat Kundrat,Do Duy Ngoc 아세아·태평양축산학회 2024 Animal Bioscience Vol.37 No.4
Objective: This study evaluates goat sperm motility in response to metabolic substrates and various inhibitors, aiming to assess the relative contribution of glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidation for sperm movement and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production. Methods: In the present study, two main metabolic substrates; 0 to 0.5 mM glucose and 0 to 30 mM pyruvate were used to evaluate their contribution to sperm movements of goats. Using a 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol (3-MCPD), a specific inhibitor for glycolysis, and carbonyl cyanide 3-chlorophenylhydrazone as an inhibitor for oxidative phosphorylation, cellular mechanisms into ATP-generating pathways in relation to sperm movements and ATP production were observed. Data were analysed using one-way analysis of variance for multiple comparisons. Results: Sperm motility analysis showed that either glucose or pyruvate supported sperm movement during 0 to 30 min incubation. However, the supporting effects were abolished by the addition of a glycolysis inhibitor or mitochondrial uncoupler, concomitant with a significant decrease in ATP production. Although oxidative phosphorylation produces larger ATP concentrations than those from glycolysis, sperm progressivity in relation to these two metabolic pathways is comparable. Conclusion: Based on the present study, we suggest that goat sperm use glucose and pyruvate to generate cellular energy through glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration pathways to maintain sperm movement.
Power Consumption of Piezo-Composite Actuator at Resonance Frequency

<P>This paper addresses the power consumption of the LIPCA (LIghtweight Piezo-Composite Actuator) device system when electric input was applied at its resonance frequency. The LIPCA device system is composed of a piezoelectric ceramic layer and fiber reinforced lightweight composite layers. Typically, a PZT ceramic layer is sandwiched by a top fiber layer with low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) and base layers with high CTE. The advantages of the LIPCA design are weight reduction by using the lightweight fiber reinforced plastic layers without compromising the generation of high force and large displacement, and design flexibility by selecting the fiber direction and the size of prepreg layers. An experimental set-up was specially designed to measure the power consumption of the LIPCA. By measuring the capacitance of the PZT ceramic wafer during the test, the electric power that consumed can be determined. Experimental results revealed a significant increase in capacitance of the PZT ceramic wafer with an increase in the frequency of applied voltage around the natural frequency of the actuator. </P>

<P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>Spatio‐temporal drought characteristics related to weak, moderate, and strong El Niño events in the Indonesian region were investigated. The empirical orthogonal function (EOF) patterns of normalized monthly precipitation and Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) for the period 1950–2010 were analysed; the influence of El Niño events are better represented by SPI. The effects of El Niño events on meteorological drought were investigated based on a composite analysis. The effects of El Niño were more obvious during June–July–August and September–October–November, while they were not significant in March–April–May especially during weak and moderate El Niño events. Spatial distributions of affected areas varied by season, intensity of El Niño events, and local factors. During moderate and strong El Niño events, meteorological drought was more common in southern Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, southeastern Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. Based on the spatial and temporal variability of droughts, the monthly or seasonal meteorological drought outlook can be improved by using SPI focusing more on the regions and seasons that are affected by El Niño events. The multi‐model ensemble (MME) forecast of SPI performed better for the target months of September to November even at medium lead times. The months are consistent with the period of serious El Niño effects on drought, implying that serious drought conditions during the most harshly affected season can be predicted using the MME forecast.</P>

<P>In this paper, we provide a high-level abstract system model of a wireless-powered sensor network (WPSN) based on experimental results on a real-life testbed. In the WPSN, a sensor node is wirelessly powered by the radio frequency (RF) energy transfer from a dedicated RF power source. We define the behavior of each component comprising the WPSN and analyze the interaction between these components to set up a realistic WPSN model from the systematic point of view. Towards this, we implement a real-life and full-fledged testbed for the WPSN and conduct extensive experiments to obtain model parameters and to validate the proposed model. Based on this WPSN model, we propose an energy management scheme for the WPSN, which maximizes RF energy transfer efficiency while guaranteeing energy neutral operation. We implement the proposed energy management scheme in a real testbed and show its operation and performance.</P>

The criticality analysis of VVER-1000 mock-up benchmark experiments from the LR-0 research reactor operated by the Research Center Rez in the Czech Republic has been conducted with the MCS Monte Carlo code developed at the Computational Reactor Physics and Experiment laboratory of the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology. The main purpose of this work is to evaluate the newest ENDF/B-VIII.0 nuclear data library against the VVER-1000 mock-up integral experiments and to validate the criticality analysis capability of MCS for light water reactors with hexagonal fuel lattices. A preliminary code/code comparison between MCS and MCNP6 is first conducted to verify the suitability of MCS for the benchmark interpretation, then the validation against experimental data is performed with both ENDF/B-VII.1 and ENDF/B-VIII.0 libraries. The investigated experimental data comprises six experimental critical configurations and four experimental pin-by-pin power maps. The MCS and MCNP6 inputs used for the criticality analysis of the VVER-1000 mock-up are available as supplementary material of this article.
