        Escherichia coli 패혈증 환자에 합병된 대칭적 하지 말단 괴사증 1예

        We have encountered a rare case of symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating Escherichia coli sepsis in a 47-years-old male. He was successfully treated with antibiotics, anticoagulants, and vasodilator. To our knowledge, this is the first report on symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating E. coli sepsis in Korea.

      • 연탄재의 硬化에 關한 硏究

        Comparative studies have been carried out to elucidate effects of 3 types of Japanese hardening agents and cement on the compressive and tensil strength of solidified briquette ashes with different ages, when various mixing ratio were applied. 1. The hardening agent, especially type C, were appeared to be better than the cement to obtain higher compressive and tensil strength of the products. 2. The compressive strength when mixing ratio of 1 : 3 applied were : 177.6kg/㎠ for type C; 168.6kg/㎠ for type A; and 155.94kg/㎠ for type B. 3. The tensil strength when mixing ratio of 1 : 3 applied were : 24.63kg/㎠ for type C; 23.14kg/㎠ for type B; and 22.45kg/㎠ for type A. 4. Although the solidified briquette ashes were found to be not as strong as cement mortar, it is considered that they could be used instead of low-strength concrete, and that they could contribute to reduce the amount of terminal city-wastes then to reduce pollutions caused by the wastes.

      • 생물전극 반응조를 이용한 영양물질 제거

        We have investigated a performance of bio-electrode reactor for removal of nutrient like a nitrogen, phosphorus and organic substrate. Lab scale of bio-electrode reactor was operated with synthetic and tannery wastewater. Iron bar and stainless steel used for anode and cathode respectively. In experiment with synthetic wastewater, we were able to obtain the optimal current density range of 2.4-40 mA/dm² after 48 hrs operating time. And in that experiment, about 70~73% of ammonia nitrogen and 54~64% of phosphorus were removed. In experiment with tannery wastewater at 2.4-4.0 mA/dm², the removal rate of ammonia nitrogen, phosphorus and organic substract were about 62-69%, 45~59% and beyond 79% respectively.

      • Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphomas의 예후인자로서의 혈청 β2-microglobulin

        Background: This study was undertaken to see whether serum β2-microglobulin (B2M) could be used as a prognostic factor or not in patients with previously untreated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Methods: One hundred and forty-six consecutive patients with previously untreated DLBCL were participated in this study between 1995 and 2004. Serum B2M was measured by a radioimmunoassay in pretreatment serum samples of patients with DLBCL. Patients were then treated with CHOP or equivalent regimens with or without radiotherapy. Results: Serum B2M was available in 127 out of 146 patients enrolled. The median age was 54 years (15-80). Serum B2M levels greater than 2.5 mg/L were found in 27/127 (21.3%) patients. Higher serum levels were associated with old age, high serum LDH, poor performance status, increased number of extranodal site(s), advanced stage, constitutional symptom, bone marrow involvement, and high International Prognostic Index (P=0.001, 0.000, 0.000. 0.024, 0.000, 0.010, 0.040, and 0.000, respectively). The complete response rate was 40.7% vs. 68.0% for patients with serum B2M levels greater than 2.5 mg/L vs. control (P=0.010). The median overall survival was 11 months vs. 74 months for patients with serum B2M levels greater than 2.5 mg/L vs. control (P=0.0000). Conclusions: Serum B2M level was a good predictor of complete response and overall survival in patients with previously untreated DLBCL and could be used as a prognostic factor.

      • 웹카메라를 이용한 천체사진촬영에 관한 연구

        Recently, CCD cameras has been widely adoped for astronomical photography. CCD is more sensitive than photographic film and has the advantage of e,ISY digital image processing. In this paper, we have used a PC web camera instead of expensive commercial astronomical CCD camera for astrophotography. The images of the bright objects such as Moon, Sun, and Jupiter have been easily obtained by an ordinary web camera. A Vesta Pro web camera have been modified by Steve Chamber method for long exposed astrophotography. The thermal noise of the CCD has been dramatically decreased by cooling the CCD with a Peltier device. The initial images of the globular clusters M3 and M13 have been obtained with the modified Vesta Pro~SC web camera. We could obtain the bright pictures correspond to the long exposed photography by digitally adding the several short exposed frames. The noise of the long exposed frames were greatly reduced compared to the short exposed frames. In conclusion, we have shown that the web camera can be used for astrophography very economically in middle schools and high schools which have telescopes with limited tracking ability.

      • 일본에 있어서 해상양식용 부침식 구조물의 개발시험

        Submersible platform artificial sea floor, which can be deployed up to a depth of one hundred meters. was developed and placed at a depth of forty meters in the water of Funagoshi Bay in Iwate Prefecture in February 1996. The facility aims to use broad underwater space for mariculture and as an experimental marine station for oceanographic and biological monitoring study. The facility consists of an artificial sea floor(36x20m) that floats at 7m below the surface. a machinery hut that projects above the surface of the center of the structure and a balance weight beneath the structure. The facility was designed so it does not need periodical inspection and repair in main components for five years. The design was condition was 10m in significant wave. Measurement of movement and load to the mooring chain under rough sea conditions were examined using monitoring instruments. The facility can be operated easily and safely by fishers and there was no fundamental problem which needed further improvement. Cultivation of abalone in a rough sea area was prover to be possible. The artificial sea floor is expected to be one of the prospective technologies for utilizing vast coastal sea areas.

      • 초등학교 자연과에서의 야외 수업 실태와 개선 방안 및 지도 방략

        When we consider the developmental level of children, minds-on/hands-on experiences have very important value for effective science learning. As a basis for the development of outdoor-inquiry materials, we surveyed the status of outdoor activities in the elementary school science, then analyzed the data. Data were obtained from fifty-one teachers of nineteen elementary schools. Most of them (about 80%) recognized the necessity of outdoor instruction. However, they were using the outdoor activities 1.7 times at average per school year in practice. Most of these activities were practiced within school or nearby areas including parks. The major reasons for these poor use of outdoor activities presented by respondents were the cognitive characteristics of children and the excessive amount of science content to be covered. Also, these outdoor activeities were focused only to the observations in natural environment and cognitive aspects. Several factors, such as the lack of time, appropriate outdoor sites and instructional materials, and the insufficient experiences on the outdoor activities of teacher oneself, were acknowledged. These results have implications for the development of instructional materials for both of children and teachers. In this study, we suggested the effective instructional methods at outdoor environment in relation to the characteristics of children, topics, and sites.

      • 개에 있어서 심장사상충증을 동반한 창상성 횡격막 허니아의 수술적 치료 1례

        A 7-month old. castrated male Shih-tzu dog was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with history of depression. dyspnea. mild scale. tachypnea. exercise intolerance and severe leanness. On physical examination. cardiac arrhythmias was heard and heart worm ELISA test was positive. Microfilaria was found on the direct blood smear. Survey radiographs showed loss of diaphragmatic line and cardiac silhouette. displacement of lung fields and presence of gas filled intestines in the thoracic cavity. Rib fracture and pelvic fracture with callus formation were found incidentally. On the basis of physical examination and radiographic findings. it was diagnosed as traumatic diaphragmatic hernia and heart worm disease. Herniorrhaphy was performed. Postoperatively. it was treated for heart worm disease and scale. There is no evidence of recurrence of diaphragmatic hernia and heart worm disease over 1 year.

      • 인공 제올라이트를 이용한 암모니아성 질소 등온흡착특성

        국내 석탄화력 발전소에서 폐기되는 석탄회를 이용하여 폐수 중 암모니아성 질소 제거용 흡착제를 제조하고자 NaOH를 반응물로 한 수열합성 반응을 이용, 제올라이트를 합성하였으며 제조된 제올라이트를 실제공정에 활용하기 위하여 흡착실험 및 공정모사를 수행하였다. 또한 흡착제를 구형으로 제조하여 암모니아성 질소의 등온 흡착 공정에 이용하였으며 이 결과 Langmuir, Freundlich 및 Sips 식에 잘 일치함을 알 수 있었다. 고정층에서의 흡착 거동은 축 방향 분산흐름, 입자 내부에서의 표면확산 및 Sips 흡착 등온식을 바탕으로 한 고정층 흡착 모델의 주요 공정 변수에 대한 파과곡선을 잘 모사할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. Zeolite was synthesized from coal fly ash produced by a domestic power plant and applied for the removal of ammonia from waste water. Zeolite was synthezied using a hydrothermal method involving an akaline reaction with NaOH, and adsorption experiments and simulations were performed with the pellectized zeolite. The experimental data obtained from adsorption isotherms were consistent with the Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips equation. Also, most of the correlated results for the fixed bed model based on surface diffusion and Sips adsorption isotherms equation were consistent with the experimental data.
