Fragility based damage assesment in existing precast industrial buildings: A case study for Turkey

Senel, Sevket Murat,Kayhan, Ali Haydar Techno-Press 2010 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.34 No.1

In Turkey, majority of industrial facilities are composed of precast buildings. However, precast buildings have suffered extensive damage during Kocaeli and Duzce (1999) and Adana-Ceyhan (1998) earthquakes. Therefore, in this study, fragilities of existing building stock and damage probabilities of precast buildings were studied. For this purpose, building inventories were prepared and variation of structural parameters was determined by investigating the design project of 65 precast buildings constructed in Denizli, Turkey. Twelve analysis models which reflect the stiffness, strength and ductility properties of building inventory were constructed. After the definition of strain based displacement limits and corresponding damage states for buildings, displacement demands were calculated by using non linear time history analysis. During the analyses 360 strong ground motion records were used. Exceedence ratios of concerned damage limits was calculated by checking the displacement demands and then PGV based fragility curves were constructed. Efficiency of strength, stiffness and ductility properties of existing precast buildings were investigated by comparing the fragility curves. The results have shown that the most effective parameters that govern the damage probabilities of precast buildings are stiffness and ductility. It was also stated that the results of fragility analysis and damage and failure observations performed after Kocaeli and Duzce Earthquakes are compatible.

        Octahedron sets

이정곤,G. Senel,임평기,김준희,허걸 원광대학교 기초자연과학연구소 2020 ANNALS OF FUZZY MATHEMATICS AND INFORMATICS Vol.19 No.3

We define an octahedron set and introduce the notions of internal octahedron sets and external octahedron sets and study some related properties and give some examples. Also, we define Type $i$-order, Type $i$-intersection, Type $i$-union ($i=1,~2,~3,~4$) and study some of their properties. Moreover, we define an octahedron point and deal with the characterizations of Type $i$-union (Type $i$-intersection). Also, we introduce the level set of an octahedron set and obtain one property. Finally, we define the image and preimage of an octahedron set under a mapping and investigate some of their properties.

Topological structures via interval-valued soft sets

        이정곤,G. Senel,Young Bae Jun,Fadhil Abbas,Kul Hur 원광대학교 기초자연과학연구소 2021 ANNALS OF FUZZY MATHEMATICS AND INFORMATICS Vol.22 No.2

Our aim of the research is to study two aspects: First, we define new concept (called an {\it interval-valued soft set}) which combines an interval-valued set with a soft set, and discuss with its algebraic structures and give some examples. Second, we investigate basic topological structures based on interval-valued soft set, for example, subspace, base and subbase, neighborhood, closure and interior, and give some examples.

Rapid seismic performance assessment method for one story hinged precast buildings

Palanci, Mehmet,Senel, Sevket Murat Techno-Press 2013 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.48 No.2

In this study, seismic performance of one story hinged precast buildings, which represents the majority of existing lightweight industrial building stock of Turkey, was assessed. A lot of precast buildings, constructed in one of the important seismic zones of western Turkey, were investigated and building inventories were prepared. By this method, structural properties of inventory buildings and damaged precast buildings in recent earthquakes were compared. Damage estimations based on nonlinear analysis methods have shown that estimated damage levels of inventory buildings and observed damage levels in recent earthquakes are similar. Accuracy of damage estimation study and the simplicity of the one story precast building models implied that rapid seismic performance assessment method for these buildings can be developed. In this assessment method, capacity curves and vibration periods of precast buildings were calculated by using structural properties of precast buildings. The proposed assessment method was applied to inventory buildings by using two different seismic demand scenarios which reflect moderate and soft soil conditions. Comparison of detailed analysis and rapid assessment methods have indicated that reliable seismic performance estimations can be performed by using proposed method. It is also observed that distribution of damage estimations is compatible in both scenarios.

Cubic crisp sets and their application to topology

이정곤,G. Senel,김준희,양다희,허걸 원광대학교 기초자연과학연구소 2021 ANNALS OF FUZZY MATHEMATICS AND INFORMATICS Vol.21 No.3

Cubic crisp sets due to classical sets and cubic sets are an important new set theory keeping in mind the underlying dynamics of cubic sets and crisp sets. However, despite its usage importance, not only for theory but also for application, the usage of combine crisp and cubic sets have been overlooked. This dissertation aims to provide insight into a cubic crisp sets and their applications to topology. Firstly, the new concept cubic crisp set is defined and some of its algebraic structures are obtained. In section 4, a cubic topology is defined. In the remainder of this section, we study some properties of cubic crisp topology, with the eventual aim of describing cubic crisp topology directly using cubic crisp closure (interior). These results that are obtained in this section, therefore describe the very close connection between P-cubic crisp topology, P-cubic crisp countable topology, internal P-cubic crisp topology and external P-cubic crisp topology, we are aiming to classify. Examinations with examples of the cubic crisp topology is stated in Section 5. We then considered cubic crisp neighborhood which takes into account the cubic crisp points that are defined in section 6. Moreover, we lay the foundations for a new study of cubic crisp subspaces in Section 7. Throughout this paper, we wish to build up passion in the systematic study of the cubic crisp sets with respect to defined cubic crisp topologies on it.

Personal Well-being and Overall Satisfaction of Life of Asian Immigrant and Refugee Women

Sokunvery Var,Senel Poyrazli,Kamini Maraj Grahame 한국상담학회 2013 Journal of Asia Pacific counseling Vol.3 No.1

Asian immigrant and refugee women in the United States are often faced with the daunting and ongoing challenge of adapting to the demands of the new culture. This study aimed to find the key components (i.e., background variables and overall satisfaction with life) that may contribute to the personal well-being of Asian immigrant and refugee women residing in South Central Pennsylvania. Information was collected on a range of social and demographic variables. The Satisfaction with Life as a Whole and the Personal Well-being Index Scale was used to measure subjective well-being. The study utilized a Pearson product-moment correlational analysis and a simultaneous multiple regression analysis to analyze the data. A major finding of the study suggested that women who work have higher levels of personal well-being than women who do not work. The study also found that higher levels of satisfaction with life predicted higher levels of personal well-being.

이정곤,G. Senel,허걸,김준희,백종일 원광대학교 기초자연과학연구소 2021 ANNALS OF FUZZY MATHEMATICS AND INFORMATICS Vol.22 No.1

The aim of this paper is to introduce the basic concepts of the so-called {\it octahedron topological spaces}, for example, octahedron base and subbase, octahedron subspace, octahedron closure and interior, octahedron continuity, etc. We find some properties for each concept and give some necessary examples.

Jeong Gon Lee,G. Senel,S. M. Mostafa,Kul Hur 원광대학교 기초자연과학연구소 2023 ANNALS OF FUZZY MATHEMATICS AND INFORMATICS Vol.25 No.1

In this paper, we define an interval-valued continuity and study its several properties. Next, we define separation axioms T$_{0}$, T$_{1}$, T$_{2}$, T$_{3}$, T$_{4}$ of some types in an interval-valued topological space, discuss some relationships among them and give various examples. Finally, we introduce the concept of interval-valued fuzzy subspaces and obtain some of its properties.
