Effects of Millimetric Shifts in Breast Cancer Radiotherapy on the Radiation Dose Distribution

Background: This study aimed to facilitate decision-making in cases of breast cancer radiotherapy shifts by simulating millimetric shifts and analyzing their effects on dose distribution. Methods: The study included 30 patients with left side breast cancer who were treated with three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) in the Radiation Oncology Department in Hatay Public Hospital, between January 2013 and April 2015. A treatment plan shifting at three axes with six different measures was simulated. Results: The biggest difference in values was (+3mm shift) 476cGy, with a 7.7 % change for heart and 25.6% for spinal cord. The shifts in values respectively for CTV min, mean, max were -4.8%, 2.5%, 4%. The differences for lymphatic min, mean, max were 21.3%, 20.3%, -12.2%. Conclusion: The most important thing is not the treatment plan quality, but its practicality. The treatment plan must be practical and its practice must be controlled rigidly.

The discovery and development of the taxane class of antitumor compounds represent significant advances in the treatment of patients with a variety of malignancies. These drugs are effectively used in the treatment of breast cancer. In this study we evaluated the efficacy of fractionated usage of both paclitaxel and docetaxel as a single agent in the breast cancer cell line MCF-7. It has been shown that the cytotoxic effect of paclitaxel was increased when the divided $IC_{50}$ concentrations were used sequentially and in contrast to paclitaxel, cytotoxic effect of docetaxel was decreased with the same schema and the single dose of $IC_{50}$ concentration was optimal. The cause of the difference between the cytotoxic effects of two agents with this schedule is obscure. Demonstrating mechanisms, which are responsible for these differences, will be important for more rational use of taxoids and to provide basis for the following clinical trials.
Entropic Image Thresholding Segmentation Based on Gabor Histogram

Image thresholding techniques introducing spatial information are widely used image segmentation. Some methods are used to calculate the optimal threshold by building a specific histogram with different parameters, such as gray value of pixel, average gray value and gradient-magnitude, etc. However, these methods still have some limitations. In this paper, an entropic thresholding method based on Gabor histogram (a new 2D histogram constructed by using Gabor filter) is applied to image segmentation, which can distinguish foreground/background, edge and noise of image effectively. Comparing with some methods, including 2D-KSW, GLSC-KSW, 2D-D-KSW and GLGM-KSW, the proposed method, tested on 10 realistic images for segmentation, presents a higher effectiveness and robustness.
Lifestyle Behaviors and Early Diagnosis Practices of Cancer Patients

Background: The aim was to determine the lifestyle behaviors and the practices for early diagnosis of cancer of cancer patients. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used for this study. The sample consisted of 222 patients with a diagnosis of cancer (non-random sample method). Ethical permission was obtained of the Non-interventional Research Ethics Committee of our Institution. Values of p<0.05 were accepted as statistically significant. Results: It was observed that 54.4% of the patients had never performed breast self-examination, 60.8% had never had a mammography, and 71.2% had never had a Pap smear. Sixty-six point two percent of patients had never had screening for colon cancer within the past ten years. GIS cancers were higher in smokers and ex-smokers (p=0.005), in drinkers and in ex-drinkers (p=0.000). The breast cancer rate was higher in obese people (p=0.019). Conclusions: The results of this study provide information on the healthy lifestyle behavior of cancer patients before their diagnosis, and their use of early diagnosis practices. The important aspect of this study is to extend cancer patients' period of life after the diagnosis and treatment process, to make them conscious of risky lifestyle and nutritional behavior so that they can maintain a high quality of life, and to start initiatives in this direction that would ensure changes in behavior.
SNR Controlled Anisotropic Diffusion for Rician Noise Reduction in MR Images

To alleviate excessive smoothing of high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) regions which are correspond to the structural features of MR images by using classical anisotropic diffusion (AD) filter a novel AD filter called SNR controlled anisotropic diffusion is proposed. In this filter, an adaptive diffusivity function which is based on the correction factor of MR images was constructed. This adaptive diffusivity function of the proposed filter could control smoothing speed in terms of varying of SNR values in space and time scale until smoothing stop. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of novel AD filter.

Bladder cancer is the most prevalent malignancy of the urinary tract. About 90% of bladder cancers are urothelial carcinomas. Seventy percent of cases newly diagnosed are superficial diseases; roughly 30% of newly diagnosed cases are muscle-invasive metastatic diseases. Bladder urothelial carcinoma primarily metastasizes into regional lymph nodes and then into liver, lung, mediastinum, bone, and adrenal gland. In our case, non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer metastasized into the bone, mediastinum, iliac lymph node, and adrenal and thyroid glands. This is the first reported case in the current literature in which urothelial carcinoma metastasized into the thyroid gland.
Radiological Findings and Outcomes of Bronchial Artery Embolization in Cryptogenic Hemoptysis

Management of cryptogenic massive hemoptysis is difficult, and conservative treatment may be inadequate to stop the hemorrhage. Surgery is not a reasonable option because there is no underlying identifiable pathology. This study aimed to investigate the radiologic findings and bronchial artery embolization outcomes in cryptogenic hemoptysis, and to compare the results with non-cryptogenic hemoptysis. We evaluated 26 patients with cryptogenic hemoptysis and 152 patients with non-cryptogenic hemoptysis. A comparison of the bronchial artery abnormalities between the cryptogenic and non-cryptogenic hemoptysis groups showed that only extravasation was more statistically significant in the cryptogenic hemoptysis group than in the non-cryptogenic hemoptysis group, while the other bronchial artery abnormalities, such as bronchial artery dilatation, hypervascularity, and bronchial-to-pulmonary shunting, showed no significant difference between groups. Involvement of the non-bronchial systemic artery was significantly greater in the noncryptogenic hemoptysis group than in the cryptogenic hemoptysis group. While 69.2% of patients with cryptogenic hemoptysis also had hypervascularity in the contralateral bronchial arteries and/or ipsilateral bronchial artery branches other than the bleeding lobar branches, this finding was not detected in non-cryptogenic hemoptysis. Embolization was performed on all patients using polyvinyl alcohol particles of 355-500 μm. Hemoptysis ceased in all patients immediately after embolization. While recurrence of hemoptysis showed no statistically significant difference between the cryptogenic and non-cryptogenic hemoptysis groups, it was mild in cryptogenic hemoptysis in contrast to mostly severe in non-cryptogenic hemoptysis. 슈팅 게임(Shoting game)은 액션게임에 속해 있는 장르중 하나로 총 또는 미사일 같은 원거리 무기를 사용해 공격과 적의 공격을 피하는 게임이며[1]‘비행슈팅(Aircraft Shooting)’은 비행기를 조작해서 싸우는 게임이다[2]. 비행슈팅게임은 누구나 게임에 대해 쉽게 이해하고, 쉽게 즐길 수 있기 때문에 다른 장르의 게임들에 비해 대중화 되어 있다. 본 게임은 컴퓨터에서 쉽게 즐길 수 있도록 설계된 게임으로 우주를 배경으로 제작된 게임이며, 수많은 운석과 기뢰들을 피하고, 게임 중반부에 나오는 해적선을 파괴하고 목적지까지 도달하는 것이 게임의 목표이다. 본 게임은 Unity3D를 이용하였고, Unity3D엔진은 다른 플랫폼과의 호완성이 좋고 자체 내에서 지원해주는 기능들이 많기 때문에 많은 개발자들이 사용하고 있다.
