Aims: The incidence of liver disease is increasing worldwide. Liver transplantation is the only way to treat serious liver diseases. However, demand for transplants is increasing, while supply is very scarce. Therefore, many researchers are studying ways to replace liver transplantation. The most representative of these is cell therapy using ESCs and iPSCs. However, these are not available for clinical use because of the disadvantage that it may form teratoma in the body. Therefore we suggest other method that direct conversion technique produce generation of hepatocyte-like cells from fibroblasts with two liver-specific transcription factors. Methods: First generation of hepatocyte-like cells (miHeps) were produced by lentivirus infection for continuously expression in host genome during conversion. Second generation of hepatocyte-like cells (R-iHeps) were produced by mRNA transfection. NSG and Albumin-Treck mice were used for in vivo transplantation. Results: Directly converted hepatocyte-like cells can proliferate, split, store, re-seed, and mature with DMSO. And hepatocyte marker genes and protein expressions, albumin, AFP, etc., were increased in both cells, and albumin secretion in the media was much higher than fibroblasts. Also these cells were transplanted into liver injury model, jo2-treated NSG mice and Albumin-Treck mice, to confirm engraftment in liver. After transplant, miHeps and R-Heps can be detected in the liver under the fluorescence microscope. Conclusions: Directly converted hepatocyte-like cells can be useful for liver regeneration instead of ESCs and iPSCs-derived hepatocyte-like cells.
Error Probability Expressions for Frame Synchronization Using Differential Correlation
Sangtae Kim,Jaewon Kim,신동준,장대익,성원진 한국통신학회 2010 Journal of communications and networks Vol.12 No.6
Probabilistic modeling and analysis of correlation metrics have been receiving considerable interest for a long period of time because they can be used to evaluate the performance of communication receivers, including satellite broadcasting receivers. Although differential correlators have a simple structure and practical importance over channels with severe frequency offsets, closedform expressions for the output distribution of differential correlators do not exist. In this paper, we present detection error probability expressions for frame synchronization using differential correlation, and demonstrate their accuracy over channel parameters of practical interest. The derived formulas are presented in terms of the Marcum Q-function, and do not involve numerical integration, unlike the formulas derived in some previous studies. We first determine the distributions and error probabilities for single-span differential correlation metric, and then extend the result to multispan differential correlation metric with certain approximations. The results can be used for the performance analysis of various detection strategies that utilize the differential correlation structure.
Reduced fasting time in patients who underwent totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy
Sangtae Jang,Ayoung Kang,Hong-min Ahn,Sun-Hwi Hwang,이시학 대한외과학회 2020 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.99 No.4
Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of reduced fasting time on postoperative recovery in patients who underwent totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (TLDG). Methods: This retrospective study included 347 patients who underwent TLDG. Patients were divided into 2 groups: reduced fasting time group (n = 139) and conventional feeding group (n = 208). We compared the total hospital cost and recovery parameters, such as postoperative complications, mean hospital stay, day of first flatus, initiation of soft diet, and serum CRP levels, between the 2 groups. Results: The reduced fasting time group had a lower total hospital cost (P < 0.001) than the conventional feeding group. Regarding postoperative complications, there was no significant difference between the 2 groups (P = 0.085). Patients in the reduced fasting time group had a significantly shorter duration of mean hospital stay (P < 0.001), an earlier first flatus (P = 0.002), an earlier initiation of soft diet (P < 0.001), and lower level of serum CRP concentration (day of surgery, P = 0.036; postoperative days 2, 5, and 7, P = 0.01, 0.009, and 0.012, respectively) than patients in the conventional feeding group. Conclusion: Reduced fasting time can enhance postoperative recovery in patients who undergo TLDG and may reduce medical costs.
Development of a Two-Wheeled Mobile Tilting & Balancing (MTB) Robot
Sangtae Kim,Jungmin Seo,SangJoo Kwon 제어로봇시스템학회 2011 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2011 No.10
Two wheeled mobile balancing robot is a kind of under-actuation system that can maintain its posture and drive the robot with only two wheels. In order to overcome the limitation in turning velocity due to the centrifugal force effect, this paper proposes a tilting balancing mechanism which is to offset the centrifugal force by active tilting motions. The newly suggested two-wheeled mobile tilting and balancing robot (MTB) can prevent unnecessary slowdowns in turning motions and increase passenger?s riding feelings. To validate the tilting effect, the equation of motion of the MTB robot is derived and analyzed and the hardware design is followed.
Feasibility of hybrid BCI using ERD- and SSSEP- BCI
Sangtae Ahn,Sung Chan Jun 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
To increase information transfer rate (ITR) in brain-computer interface (BCI), many approaches better extracting new and robust features, or effectively combining such features have been proposed. Recently, hybrid BCI combining features simultaneously acquired from two different experimental paradigms has been reported. In this work, subjects performed tasks typically used in two BCI approaches, namely event-related de-synchronization (ERD) and steady-state somatosensory evoked potentials (SSSEP). Subjects imagined the movement of left or right hand (ERD) and gave more attention to the vibration (having different frequencies) of left or right finger (SSSEP). Offline analyses were found that half of the subjects did well ERD BCI rather than SSSEP BCI and information that was invisible in ERD pattern appeared in SSSEP pattern. As a preliminary study to develop a hybrid BCI using both ERD and SSSEP, we investigated how different information could be extracted from ERD and SSSEP, and further discussed how the hybrid ERD-SSSEP BCI is feasible.
MINIMAL POLYNOMIAL DYNAMICS ON THE p-ADIC INTEGERS
Sangtae Jeong Korean Mathematical Society 2023 대한수학회지 Vol.60 No.1
In this paper, we present a method of characterizing minimal polynomials on the ring 𝐙p of p-adic integers in terms of their coefficients for an arbitrary prime p. We first revisit and provide alternative proofs of the known minimality criteria given by Larin [11] for p = 2 and Durand and Paccaut [6] for p = 3, and then we show that for any prime p ≥ 5, the proposed method enables us to classify all possible minimal polynomials on 𝐙p in terms of their coefficients, provided that two prescribed prerequisites for minimality are satisfied.
