New Report of the Varunid Crabs, Hemigrapsus takanoi and Sestrostoma toriumii (Crustacea: Decapoda: Varunidae) from Korea

Sanghui Lee,Sang-kyu Lee,Hyun Soo Rho,Won Kim 한국동물분류학회 2013 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.29 No.2

As a result of continuous taxonomic studies on the Korean crabs, two varunid crabs, Hemigrapsus takanoi Asakura and Watanabe, 2005 and Sestrostoma toriumii (Takeda, 1974), are newly reported from Korean waters. Hemigrapsus takanoi, as a sibling species of H. penicillatus, has not been recognized in Korean waters, and this species occurs in the sympatric habitat with H. penicillatus in the Korean peninsula. Sestrostoma toriumii (Takeda, 1974) is associated with thallassinid Upogebia major (De Haan, 1841) and echiuran Urechis unicintus (Von Drache, 1881) as the case of S. balssi (Shen, 1932). The Korean S. toriumii showed smaller size than those mentioned in the original description. Their illustrations and pictures are provided with descriptions, and the distributions of these species in the Korean peninsula are also provided.

Trends in food and nutrient intake over 20 years: findings from the 1998-2018 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

        Sanghui Kweon,Jin Young Park,Myungsook Park,Yangha Kim,So Yeong Yeon,Leena Yoon,Sungha Yun,Suyeon Park,Ji Eun Yang,Youngtaek Kim,Ok Park,Kyungwon Oh 한국역학회 2021 Epidemiology and Health Vol.43 No.-

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to examine the current status and trends of food and nutrient intake in the Korean population over the past 20 years using the data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). METHODS: We conducted a survey of 116,284 subjects over the age of one year in Korea, who participated in the KNHANES between 1998 and 2018. We collected data on the subjects’ intake for the day before using the 24-hour recall method. The annual percent change (APC) in the food groups and nutrient intake were calculated using SAS and Joinpoint software. RESULTS: The intake of grains (APC=-0.4, p<0.05) and vegetables (APC=-0.8, p<0.05) was observed to decrease. In contrast, the intake of beverages, meat, dairy, and eggs increased. In particular, beverage intake increased by more than four times (APC=9.2, p<0.05). There was no significant change in energy intake. However, the proportion of energy intake from carbohydrates decreased by approximately 5%p (APC=-0.3, p<0.05), whereas that from fat increased by approximately 5%p (APC=1.1, p<0.05). Additionally, there were decreases in the proportion of energy intake from breakfast and homemade meals and increases in the energy intake from snacks, dining out, and convenience food. The intake of vitamin C (APC=-3.2, p<0.05) and sodium (APC=-2.3, p<0.05) significantly decreased. CONCLUSIONS: Over the past 20 years, there has been decreases in the intake of grains, vegetables, carbohydrates, sodium, and vitamin C and increases in the intake of beverages, dairy, meat, eggs, and fat. Since nutritional status is an important factor in the prevention and management of chronic diseases, it should be continuously monitored.

Extracting Images to Create a Forest Landscape

Sanghui Kang 전북대학교 휴양및경관계획연구소 2017 휴양및경관연구 (J East Asian Landscape Studies) Vol.11 No.1

This study aims to acquire basic data for creating a new landscape forest by examining and analyzing both current and desired images of a forest in a rural neighborhood park. Regarding the forest in Janggye Neighborhood Park, located in Janggye-myeon, Jangsu-gun, Jeollabuk-do Province, this study conducted a questionnaire, using one-on-one interviews, to survey residents in Janggye-myeon who visited the park, and a total of 58 questionnaire copies were used for analysis. The current image about the forest was analyzed as giving a common and non-mysterious impression, and the subjects did not notice seasonal changes very much. Overall, the residents had negative images about the current forest. The desired image of the forest is a forest that is amiable, beautiful, comfortable, safe, and pleasant. A t-test was conducted to identify differences between the current image and the desire image, and its results showed that there were significant differences in most variables. The factor group implying the forest image consists of fascination dimension and diversity dimension. When factor scores of the current image and the desired image were compared, there were bigger differences in the fascination dimension scores than in the diversity dimension scores. As a result, it is drew that it would be much more effective to prioritize images related to fascination dimension in creating a forest landscape in Janggye Neighborhood Park.

The Role of Lipid Peroxidation and Glutathione on the Glycochenodeoxycholic Acid-Induced Cell Death in Primary Cultured Rat Hepatocytes

        SangHui Chu,WolMi Park,KyungEun Lee,YoungSook Pae 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 2000 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.4 No.2

<P> Intracellular accumulation of bile acids in the hepatocytes during cholestasis is thought to be pathogenic in cholestatic liver diseases. The objective of this study was to determine the role of lipid peroxidation and glutathione on the bile acid-induced hepatic cell death mechanism in primary cultured rat hepatocytes. To induce hepatic cell death, we incubated primary cultured rat hepatocytes with glycochenodeoxycholic acid (GCDC; 0∼400μM) for 3 hours. In electron microscopic examination and agarose gel electrophoresis, low concentration of GCDC treatment mainly induced apoptotic feature. Whereas 400μM GCDC treated cells demonstrated both apoptosis and necrosis. Lipid peroxidation was increased dose- dependently in GCDC treated hepatocyte. And this was also accompanied by decreased glutathione. Therefore, oxygen free radical damage may play a partial role in GCDC-induced hepatic cell death.

      • [P142] Collagenoma in a patient with Down syndrome: A case report and review of literature

        ( Sanghui Park ) 대한피부과학회 2017 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.69 No.1

A 26-year-old woman with Down syndrome was presented with a palpable mass at the sacrococcygeal region. She had no history of trauma at this site and has a 15-year history of this mass with little interval change and increased slowly in size over the past several months. Physical examination shows an about 40mm-sized mass at the sacrococcygeal region without tenderness. Initial clinical diagnosis was benign tumorous condition such as organizing abscess or epidermoid cyst. For further evaluation, ultrasonography was performed. On ultrasonography, an about 3.5x2.5x4.1cm-sized heterogeneous anechoic mass was noted at the skin and subcutaneous layer with an impression of epidermoid cyst. Local excision was followed and cut section revealed a 40mm-sized, ill-defined yellowish white-tan nodule. In the scanning view, hyperkeratosis with mild acanthosis was noted. In reticular dermis, densely packed collagen fibers with entrapped blood vessels and eccrine ducts were present. Masson`s trichrome staining revealed an increased amount of collagen, and an elastic tissue stain showed a marked decrease in elastic tissue in papillary and reticular dermis. Based on these histologic and special staining features, the diagnosis of collagenoma was made. Only 4 cases of collagnoma in patients with Down syndrome have been reported and no report has been described in Korea.

A Comparative Analysis of Landscape Elements and Management Plans in Nature Parks - Focused on Jeollabuk-do Provincial Parks -

Sanghui Kang,Nara Jeong,Deugsoo Ahn 전북대학교 휴양및경관계획연구소 2016 휴양및경관연구 (J East Asian Landscape Studies) Vol.10 No.4

The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of landscape elements and landscape management plans, by comparing and analyzing those plans within the preservation management plan of the 4 provincial parks in Jeollabuk-do Province. A landscape management plan includes both natural and cultural landscape plans, in similar proportions. While a forest’s vegetation landscape is presented as the main focus of natural landscape management, temple landscape and landscape control points (LCPs) are the main focus of cultural landscape management. Analysis of the specific plans by the landscape management strategies, shows that an enhancement approach was incorporated into most of them, while reduction, avoidance, compensation and remediation approaches were also included in part. Management of natural landscape elements such as vegetation and forests is included in the plans, which aim to improve the negative factors and conditions that impair the landscape, by means of reduction, remediation, and compensation. Cultural landscape management such as LCP management, and management of temple landscape and other scenic elements, can usually be categorized as either enhancement or avoidance strategies. The objective of such plans appears to be the improvement of negative landscapes, through management strategies of reduction, remediation, avoidance, and compensation, while also managing the positive landscape elements with enhancement strategies. Historic-cultural landscape elements were revealed to be highly prioritized in provincial parks, as these landscape types were managed in every park in this study. Vegetation landscape management was concentrated at Mt. Moaksan, and this indicates that the importance of vegetation landscape is relatively low within the natural landscapes of the Jeollabuk-do provincial parks. Overall, management in each park appears to be focused on a unique landscape type characteristic of that park, such as vegetation, topographical, or facilities landscape.
