Meteorological mechanisms in association with long-range transport of Asian dust in April 2001 have been investigated using weather maps, satellite images, TOMS and surface PM_10 data, backward trajectories, plus modeling output results (geopotential heights, horizontal wind vectors, potential temperatures, and streamlines). The results indicated that long-range transport of Asian dust to the west coast of North America was associated with strong westerlies between the Aleutian low and the Pacific high acting as a conveyor belt. Accelerating westerly flows due to cyclogenesis at the source regions over East Asia transported pollution from the continent to the central Pacific. When the system reached the Aleutian Islands, the intensity of troughs and the westerlies were amplified in the North Pacific. Thereafter the winds between the Aleutian Islands and the Pacific Ocean were more intensified from the air flow transport of the conveyor belt. Consequently, the strong wind in the conveyor belt enhanced the dust transport from the Pacific Ocean to the west coast of North America. This was evidenced by PM_10 concentration (maximum of about 100㎍m³) observed in California. Further evidence of the dust transport was found through the observation of satellite images, the distribution of TOMS aerosol index, and the analyses of streamlines and backward trajectories.
Single Pleural Relapse of a Nasal-Type Extranodal Natural Killer/T-Cell Lymphoma: A Case Report
( Keun Mo Kim ),( Young Min Oh ),( Sung Nam Lim ),( Song Yi Choi ),( Ok Jun Lee ),( Kang Hyeon Choe ),( Ki Man Lee ),( Jin Young An ) 대한결핵 및 호흡기학회 2014 Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Vol.76 No.4
A nasal-type extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma is considered an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin`s lymphoma, with approximately half of all patients relapsing during the follow-up period, and most relapses occurring within the first 2 years of remission. Here we report an unusual case of a 42-year-old man who experienced recurrence in single pleura after 8 years of remission.
The Sagittal Balance of Cervical Spine : Comprehensive Review of Recent Update
Sang Hoon Lee,Tae Hwan Kim,Seok Woo Kim,Hyun Take Rim,Heui Seung Lee,Ji Hee Kim,In Bok Chang,Joon Ho Song,Yong Kil Hong,Jae Keun Oh 대한신경외과학회 2023 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.66 No.6
The cervical spine plays a critical role in supporting the skull, maintaining horizontal gaze, and facilitating walking. Its unique characteristics, including the widest range of motion among spinal segments, have led to extensive research on cervical sagittal alignment. Various parameters have been proposed to evaluate cervical alignment, with studies investigating their clinical significance, correlation with symptoms, and implications for surgical interventions. Recent findings suggest that cervical sagittal alignment not only impacts the cervical spine but also influences global spine-pelvic alignment through compensatory mechanisms. This comprehensive review examines classical and new parameters of cervical sagittal alignment and considers the dynamic and muscular factors associated with it.

Summary

Archaea have inhabited the earth for a long period of time and are ubiquitously distributed in diverse environments. However, few studies have focused on the interactions of archaea with other organisms, including eukaryotes such as plants, since it is difficult to cultivate sufficient numbers of archaeal cells for analysis. In this study, we investigated the interaction between soil archaea and Arabidopsis thaliana. We demonstrate for the first time that soil archaea promote plant growth and trigger induced systemic resistance (ISR) against the necrotrophic bacterium Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum SCC1 and biotrophic bacterium Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000. Ammonia‐oxidizing archaeon Nitrosocosmicus oleophilus MY3 cells clearly colonized the root surface of Arabidopsis plants, and increased resistance against both pathogenic species via the salicylic acid‐independent signalling pathway. This mechanism of bacterial resistance resembles that underlying soil bacteria‐ and fungi‐mediated ISR signalling. Additionally, volatile emissions from N. oleophilus MY3 were identified as major archaeal determinants that elicit ISR. Our results lay a foundation for archaea–plant interactions as a new field of research.

A mineral phosphate solubilizing bacterium, Burkholderia cepacia DA23 has been isolated from cultivated soils. Phosphate-solubilizing activities of the strain against three types of insoluble phosphate were quantitatively determined. When 3% of glucose concentration was used for carbon source, the strain had a marked mineral phosphate-solubilizing activity. Mineral phosphate solubilization was directly related to the pH drop by the strain. Analysis of the culture medium by high pressure liquid chromatography identified gluconic acid as the main organic acid released by Burkholderia cepacia DA23. Gluconic acid production was apparently the result of the glucose dehydrogenase activity and glucose dehydrogenase was affected by phosphate regulation.

Efficiency enhancement in a-plane InGaN/GaN light emitters with carbon nanotubes.
Song, Hooyoung,Suh, Jooyoung,Kim, Eun Kyu,Shin, Kwonwoo,Han, Jong Hun,Hwang, Sung-Min,Song, Keun Man American Scientific Publishers 2012 Journal of nanoscience and nanotechnology Vol.12 No.4

This study investigates the coupling modes of a-plane InGaN/GaN mutiquantum wells (MQWs) with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The enhancement of light emissions at resonance photon energies can be explained by the surface plasmon coupling of the MQW-SWCNT hybrid structure. The photoluminescence (PL) enhancement ratios of the indigo (2.90 eV) emission from MQWs with SWCNTs reveal three coupling modes at 2.50 eV, 2.97 eV, and 3.42 eV. In addition, the trend of the PL intensity ratios and efficiencies corresponds to that of the PL enhancement ratios. The PL efficiencies for the green (2.46 eV) and indigo (2.90 eV) emissions of SWCNT-coated MQWs are 32% and 110% better than the corresponding values of uncoated MQWs, respectively. The results show that the MQW-SWCNT hybrid structure has the potential to be applied in high-efficiency light emitters in the visible and ultraviolet range.

New synthetic method of semiconducting nanorods and nanowires CdE (E = S and Se) by γ-irradiation
Song Ja Jo,Don Keun Lee,Min-Sung Kim,Young Hwan Kim,Young Soo Kang 한국물리학회 2006 Current Applied Physics Vol.6 No.4
Semiconducting nanorods and nanowires were synthesized byc-irradiation at room temperature and the atmospheric pressure. The experiment was carried out in ethylenediamine and pyridine as solvents. Ethylenediamine and pyridine molecules were coordi-nated with metal ions and have an eect on the shape like nanorods and nanowires. Their crystallinity was determined with X-raypowder diraction (XRD). Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX) was used to characterize the elements. Transmission elec-tron microscopy (TEM) images were used to determine the diameter and the length of them.
