      • The Religious Studies in Pakistan: A Review

        Religious issues are an unavoidable theme in the study of Pakistan. Pakistan is an Islamic country lacking a stable political order, which occupies an important position in its domestic politics due to its religious influence. It is of great theoretical and practical significance to study and summarize the religious management mode and experience in Pakistan. At present, academic circles at home and abroad have conducted many studies on Pakistan’s religious issues, but there are relatively few specific studies on Pakistan’s religious management models and experience. Combing and analyzing the existing research results is conducive to grasping the current research trends as a whole, and digging out further problems and directions.

        The Analysis of the Formation Mechanism of Pakistan’s Strategic Culture

        국가가 자주권을 행사하는 것은 전략문화와 강한 상관관계가 있지만 국가의 전략문화의 분류에 대해서는 학자마다 견해가 다르다. 중국 서부의 가장 중요한 인접국가 중 하나인 파키스탄은 중국의 든든한 파트너로서 파키스탄의 전략문화를 이해하는 것은 파키스탄의 국가 정책과 국가가 자주권을 행사하는 행위를 이해하는 데 도움이 될 뿐만 아니라 중국과 파키스탄 양국의 협력관계를 심화시키는 데도 도움이 된다. 저자는 지리, 사회, 경제, 문화, 역사, 군사 등의 관점에서 볼 때 파키스탄의 전략적 문화 형성의 메커니즘은 주로 지정학적 환경, 생산방식, 생활방식, 문화적 전통, 역사적 경험과 대외 관계 등 네 가지 요인의 영향을 받는다. 분석 결과로 파키스탄의 전략 문화는 이슬람에 의해 형성되어 왔고, 대외 지향적인 전략 문화로 분류될 수 있으며 국가가 자주권을 행사하는 거도 이슬람적인 색채가 강하다. The state behavior has a strong consequence with the national strategic culture. However, different scholars hold different views on the classification of the national strategic culture. As one of the most significant land neighbors in West China, Pakistan is China’s all-weather strategic cooperative partner. Understanding Pakistan’s strategic culture will not only help understand Pakistan’s national policies and state behavior, but also help deepen China-Pakistan cooperation. Cutting in from the perspectives of geography, social economy, culture, history and military, the author believes that the formation mechanism of Pakistan’s strategic culture is mainly affected by the following four factors: geopolitical environment, production mode and lifestyle, cultural tradition, historical experience and diplomatic relations. The analysis has found that Pakistan’s strategic culture has been shaped by Islam and can be classified as an outward-oriented strategic culture, the state behavior also shows a strong Islamic identity.

        LncRNA PVT1 upregulates FBN1 by sponging miR-30b-5p to aggravate pulpitis

        Background Pulpitis is a disease mainly caused by bacterial infection. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) infl uence the advancement of pulpitis. In this paper, we reconnoitered the characters of lncRNA plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (PVT1) in pulpitis. Objective PVT1, microRNA-30b-5p (miR-30b-5p) and fi brillin 1 (FBN1) levels were identifi ed by qRT-PCR and western blot. In addition, the cell functions were scrutinized. Additionally, the link between miR-30b-5p and PVT1 or FBN1 was identifi ed by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Result The contents of PVT1 and FBN1 were augmented, but the miR-30b-5p level was declined in pulpitis. Knockdown of PVT1 enhanced cell proliferation and cell vitality, whereas inhibited cell infl ammatory reaction in HDPFs under LPS stimulation. In mechanism, PVT1 acted as a miR-30b-5p sponge to adjust the content of FBN1. Moreover, miR-30b-5p mediated LPS-mediated repression of proliferation and promotion of infl ammatory reaction HDPFs by FBN1. Conclusion PVT1 expedited the improvement of pulpitis via miR-30b-5p/FBN1.

        Hybrid energy storage bidirectional DC–DC converter based on Hermite interpolation and linear active disturbance rejection control

        The steady and transient performance of a bidirectional DC–DC converter (BDC) is the key to regulating bus voltage and maintaining power balance in a hybrid energy storage system. In this study, the state of charge of the energy storage element (ESE) is used to calculate the converter current control coefficient (CCCC) via Hermite interpolation. Moreover, the charging and discharging currents of the BDC are controlled by the CCCC. Thus, the ESE runs in the best working region. The linear active disturbance rejection control is used in the current inner loop of BDC to solve the problems of slow dynamic response and parameter tuning in traditional PI control. The method can deal with the great transient response and a vast range of uncertainties, improve the BDC response speed by more than 20%, compensate for the unbalanced power timely, reduce the bus voltage fluctuation, and enhance the disturbance immunity of the system. The proposed method is verified by simulations and experiments.

        Decolorization and Biodegradation of the Azo Dye Congo Red by an Isolated Acinetobacter baumannii YNWH 226

        A strict aerobic Acinetobacter baumanniiYNWH 226, isolated from an activated sludge reactortreating textile wastewater, was able to grow on Congo redas the sole carbon source under aerobic conditions. Thedecolorization and TOC reduction efficiency were 99.1 and93.72%, respectively. The effects of the Congo redconcentration were studied. The environmental factors (i.e.,pH, temperature and agitation speed) on the biodegradationof Congo red in aqueous phase were studied and evaluatedusing response surface methodology. The results indicatedthat when the Congo red concentration was 100 mg/L, theoptimal decolorization conditions were as follows: 37°C,pH 7.0 and 180 rpm. The single A. baumannii YNWH 226was able to form aromatic amines by reductive breakage ofthe azo bond and then oxidize them into non-toxicmetabolites.

        Fabrication of porous polymer microparticles with tunable pore size and density through the combination of phase separation and emulsion-solvent evaporation approach

        A facile and versatile route to prepare porous polymer microparticles with tunable pore size and density through the combination of phase separation and emulsion-solvent evaporation method is demonstrated. When volatile organic solvent (e.g., chloroform) diffuses through the aqueous phase containing poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and evaporates, n-hexadecane (HD) and polystyrene (PS) in oil-in-water emulsion droplets occur to phase separate due to the incompatibility between PS and HD, ultimately yielding microparticles with porous structures. Interestingly, density of the pores (pore number) on the shell of microparticles can be tailored from one to hundreds by simply varying the HD concentration and/or the rate of solvent evaporation. Moreover, this versatile approach for preparing porous microparticles with tunable pore size and density can be applied to other types of hydrophobic polymers, organic solvents, and alkanes, which will find potential applications in the fields of pharmaceutical, catalyst carrier, separation, and diagnostics.

      • Electric-Field-Assisted Assembly of Polymer-Tethered Gold Nanorods in Cylindrical Nanopores

        <P>In this report, we demonstrate the confined assembly of polymer-tethered gold nanorods in anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) channels with the assistance of electric field (EF). Various interesting hybrid assemblies, such as single-, double-, triple-, or quadruple-helix, linear, and hexagonally packed structures are obtained by adjusting pore size in AAO channels, ligand length, and EF orientation. Correspondingly, surface plasmonic property of the assemblies can thus be tuned. This strategy, by coupling of external-field and cylindrically confined assembly, is believed to be a promising approach for generating ordered hybrid assemblies with hierarchical structures, which may find potential applications in photoelectric devices, biosensors, and data storage devices.</P>

      • Biological control of invasive plant species: A stochastic analysis

        Biological control agents are regarded as a relatively safe method to control weeds. However, their impact on weeds can be relatively low and unpredictable. The aims of this article were to: (i) assess whether or not a weevil (Apion onopordi) and a mycoherbicide (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) are desirable as biological agents for the control of Californian thistle (Cirsium arvense) in New Zealand despite their uncertain effectiveness; (ii) identify the combination of control options that is optimal to control the thistle; (iii) analyze the economic consequences of excluding chemicals from the weed control strategy; and (iv) assess the feasibility of the eradication of this weed. Two optimization models were developed and compared: one deterministic model and one stochastic model. The results showed that taking into account the stochastic effectiveness of biological agents can change the optimal integrated strategy, particularly if the biological control agent is relatively expensive. However, for a cheaper biological agent, the stochastic efficacy is less likely to change the optimal control strategy. On the basis of the modeling results, the authors argue that, in the context of the agri-environmental setting of this article's case study, chemicals can be replaced by more environmentally friendly control options at a relatively low cost. The authors also show that the eradication of the thistle is unlikely, at least given the efficacy of the existing control methods.
