        Automatic path generation for tractor-trailers according to the ramp slope of Ro-Ro ships

        Roll-on and roll-off (Ro-Ro) ships are economical transportation vessels that are very useful for transporting large freights, such as plant equipment and aircraft bodies. To load a large freight on a Ro-Ro ship, a tractor is generally used to pull a trailer on which the cargo is secured via a ramp from the port berth to the ship deck. In the case of a long cargo, the trajectory of the trailer is not the same as that of the tractor, which can cause a collision with the ramp or the gate or obstacles on the deck. Also, if the freight is too high, it may overturn when the trailer is tilted due to the ramp slope. This research proposes a method for calculating the best and safest trajectories for large freights to be loaded on Ro-Ro ships without the occurrence of any collisions or overturns. By reasonably assuming a low speed of the tractor, the proposed method generates all the possible tractor paths based on the Bezier curve and also calculates the trajectories of trailers when moving on inclined ramps; thus, it is the first method to calculate 3D trajectories for trailers when the tractor and trailer move on different planes. Besides, it searches for the best paths without any collisions or overturns and with the minimum shipping time possible. Since the proposed method calculates the paths by taking the ramp angle as a variable input, the trajectories can be automatically generated based on the change in the waterline of the ship according to the loading of the cargoes. Overall, the proposed method can be useful for transportation companies when planning the shipping of large freights, and it can also be beneficial for future autonomous driving systems.

        Study on Microbial Community Succession and Protein Hydrolysis of Donkey Meat during Refrigerated Storage Based on Illumina NOVA Sequencing Technology

        In this study, the microbial community succession and the protein hydrolysis of donkey meat during refrigerated (4℃) storage were investigated. 16S rDNA sequencing method was used to analyze the bacteria community structure and succession in the level of genome. Meanwhile, the volatile base nitrogen (TVB-N) was measured to evaluate the degradation level of protein. After sorting out the sequencing results, 1,274,604 clean data were obtained, which were clustered into 2,064 into operational taxonomic units (OTUs), annotated to 32 phyla and 527 genus. With the prolonging of storage time, the composition of microorganism changed greatly. At the same time, the diversity and richness of microorganism decreased and then increased. During the whole storage period, Proteobacteria was the dominant phyla, and the Photobacterium, Pseudompnas, and Acinetobacter were the dominant genus. According to correlation analysis, it was found that the abundance of these dominant bacteria was significantly positively correlated with the variation of TVB-N. And Pseudomonas might play an important role in the production of TVB-N during refrigerated storage of donkey meat. The predicted metabolic pathways, based on PICRUSt analysis, indicated that amino metabolism in refrigerated donkey meat was the main metabolic pathways. This study provides insight into the process involved in refrigerated donkey meat spoilage, which provides a foundation for the development of antibacterial preservative for donkey meat.

        Geographical origin discrimination of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) based on multi-elemental concentrations combined with chemometrics

        The concentrations of twenty-four elements intwenty-five peppers from three cultivated regions inGuizhou Province (China) were analyzed. The chemometricdata processing, including one-way analysis ofvariance, principal component analysis, linear discriminantanalysis (LDA), and orthogonal partial least squares discriminantanalysis (OPLS-DA) were executed to differentiatethe peppers. Consequently, the contents of 16elements (Arsenic, Ba, Cu, Co, Cr, Ni, Pb, Sn, Sb, Mo, Sr,Y, Zn, Ca, P, and Fe) were significantly different amongthe three regions (p\0.05). The correct discriminationrates of 25 peppers were 92.0% for LDA and 96.0% forOPLS-DA. The variable importance in the projection (VIP)values were ranged from 1.063 to 1.262 for seven elements(Tin, Fe, Zn, Y, Cr, Sr, and Mo) indicating that they playedan important role for the geographical origin traceability ofpepper. To sum up, multi-element concentrations togetherwith chemometric data-processing can be promising for thegeographical origin differentiation of pepper.

      • Volatilization of Na and B During Vitrification of HLW and Associated Effects on Crystallization

        During nuclear waste vitrification, loss of sodium (Na) and boron (B) occurs, as these elements are highly volatile at high temperatures, which causes fluctuations in composition and consequently affects the properties of the glass products. In this study, we investigated the volatilization behaviors of Na and B from a simulated high-level waste glass as functions of heating temperature and dwelling duration. Based on the data obtained regarding the composition of Na and B and the structure of the glass, a hypothetical model was proposed to explain the volatilization behaviors of Na and B from a structural viewpoint. As the loss of Na and B during vitrification, the crystallization of the glass occurred. Thus, the crystallization behavior of the simulated waste glass upon composition deviation was studied.

        Levels of Phenolic Compounds, Antioxidant Capacity, and Microbial Counts of Fresh-cut Onions after Treatment with a Combination of Nisin and Citric Acid

        Nisin and citric acid are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for using as a food ingredient and often used to control the microbial contamination of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables. However, their effects on phenolics and antioxidants remain unclear. Here we used 50 μg·mL-1 nisin combination with 1% (w/v) citric acid (N+C) to wash fresh-cut onions and the phenolic compounds, antioxidant capacity, microbial load, slice color were evaluated during the storage period. N+C treatment decreased the total polyphenols (TP) and quercetin contents (p < 0.05), as compared to the control at day 0, but did not affect phenolic acids and antioxidant capacity (ABTS, DPPH, and FRAP assays). During storage, antioxidant capacity, TP, and flavonoid contents increased. Storage had mixed effects on the phenolic acids (caffeic acid, vanillic acid, and ferulic acid increased, chlorogenic acid remained fairly stable). N+C treatment reduced the microbial counts and total viable counts (TVC) of fresh-cut onions below the detection limit until 5 days of storage. After 15 days storage, TVC of N+C treated samples remained significantly (p < 0.05) lower than controls. In addition, N+C treatment led to better color retention during storage. Therefore, N+C might be used as a safe preservative for fresh-cut onions.

        경사진 램프를 통한 장축 화물의 선적 궤적 생성

        Roll-on and roll-off (Ro-Ro) ship is the most economical transporting method for large freights such as train, helicopter, and aircraft body. To ship a large freight to a designated location on deck of Ro-Ro ship, tractor is used to pull a trailer with a connecting link of goose neck shape, on which the freight is secured. When the freight is long enough, the trajectory of trailer is not same as that of trailer and is a three dimensional path, which can cause any collision with ramp, gate, and obstacles in the deck. This research proposes a method of calculating possible trajectories to drive a tractor, along which does not cause any collision. Assuming reasonably low speed of a tractor, the proposed method generates possible tractor paths based on Bezier curve to calculate the trailer path considering tilt of tractor and trailer when they go up the inclined ramp. Finally, it calculates the best three paths without any collision in order of priority with minimum shipping time. The proposed method can be useful for the transport company to determine the shipping possibility as well as to generate driving order for a tractor driver.

        자동차 차체의 점 용접을 위한 용접건의 자세 범위 자동 계산

        Car bodies need a large number of spot welding for lightweight and rigid bonding. Before the spot welding process, the posture of the selected weldgun must be reviewed first not to interfere with the welding objects and fixtures. A commercial CAD program can automatically calculate the posture range of a weldgun, but it takes too much time for use in the car industry. This study developed a method with a program to review the weldability automatically within an acceptable time. For the versatility of the developed program, the welding target and weldgun data are input in STL format that is a standard for CAD models. However, it does not provide any topology information of the models, which makes it difficult to get the necessary welding information. After getting the welding information, this study developed an algorithm to calculate the range of weldable posture of a weldgun within a few seconds by the Octree and the CPU parallel processing method. The proposed method can be applied not only to the automobile but also to spot welding processes in other fields.

        Deep Blue Laser Gain Medium Based on Triphenylamine Substituted Arylfluorene With Improved Photo-Stability

        <P>We report a novel blue emission triphenylamine substituted arylfluorene (SPhTPA) as organic optical gain medium with low amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) threshold. The optical gain related properties of SPhTPA and its blends with inert polymer, polystyrene (PS), were investigated in detail. This study shows the gain property and photo-stability of SPhTPA have been improved significantly by doping it into PS. The lowest ASE threshold was obtained for the SPhTPA/PS film doped with 20 wt.% SPhTPA. The film of the same doping ratio exhibited high net gain coefficient (27.8 cm(-1)) and low loss coefficient (7.2 cm(-1)). Moreover, the blend film demonstrated a significantly improved photostability. The ASE photo-stability half-life of the blend film was 15 fold higher than the pristine SPhTPA film when pumped in open ambient atmosphere. This paper suggests that this triphenylamine substituted arylfluorene is a highly prospective gain medium and doping it into PS is an efficient approach for developing air-stable SPhTPA-based organic lasers.</P>
