        Emergence of virulent pseudorabies virus infection in Northern China

        Our investigation was conducted in order to verify a recent severe epidemic at several swine farms in northern China that indicated a newly emerging disease. Evidence confirmed that the epidemic was caused by a virulent Pseudorabies virus infection in swine herds.

        A New Parameter Estimation Method for a Zipf-like Distribution for Geospatial Data Access

        Many reports have shown that the access pattern forgeospatial tiles follows Zipf’s law and that its parameter αrepresents the access characteristics. However, visits togeospatial tiles have temporal and spatial popularities, andthe α-value changes as they change. We construct amathematical model to simulate the user’s access behaviorby studying the attributes of frequently visited tile objectsto determine parameter estimation algorithms. Becausethe least squares (LS) method in common use cannotobtain an exact α-value and does not provide a suitable fitto data for frequently visited tiles, we present a newapproach, which uses a moment method of estimation toobtain the value of α when α is close to 1. When α isfurther away from 1, the method uses the associated cachehit ratio for tile access and uses an LS method based on acritical cache size to estimate the value of α. The decreasein the estimation error is presented and discussed in thesection on experiment results. This new method, whichprovides a more accurate estimate of α than earliermethods, promises more effective prediction of requestsfor frequently accessed tiles for better caching and loadbalancing.

      • Legumain Protein as a Potential Predictive Biomarker for Asian Patients with Breast Carcinoma

        Background: Treatment for breast cancer is mainly performed by surgical resection of primary tumors and chemotherapy. However, after tumor invasion and metastases, breast cancer is hard to control. Clarification of the pathogenic mechanisms would be helpful to the prognosis or therapy for the breast cancer. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical and prognostic implications of legumain protein Materials and Methods: In this study, we examined mastectomy specimens from 114 breast cancer and matching, 26 adjacent non-cancerous tissues using immunohistochemistry. Results: The results indicated that positive expression of legumain protein in breast cancer was 51.8 % (59/114) and the positive expression of legumain protein in adjacent non-cancerous tissue was 11.5% (3/26). It appeared to be related with lymph node metastasis of breast cancer (p=0.02) and correlation analysis indicated that legumain expression was correlated positively with the estrogen receptor (ER) and mutant-type p53 expression (both p<0.05). Positive legumain expression was significantly associated with shorter overall survival time in breast cancer patients (log-rank p<0.01). Multivariate survival analysis suggested that the positive legumain expression was an independent predictor of poorer overall survival in patients with breast cancer (HR=0.24; 95%CI 0.11-0.65, p=0.03). Conclusions: Legumain might be a new potential biomarker for breast cancer, which may reflect the prognosis and overall survival.

        최고 경영자 경영기조변화가 기업의 회계투명성에 미치는 영향 -최고경영자교체를 중심으로-

        본 논문은 최고경영자의 주주서한을 통해서 드러난 경영기조의 변화가 기업의 회계투명성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 구체적으로 본 논문은 Windows기반의 언어분석 프로그램인 DICTION을 한국의 상장기업의 경영자가 주주에게 보내는 경영자의 서한(CEO Letter)에 적용하여 최고 경영자의 경영기조의 변화를 측정하고, 이것이 기업의 회계투명성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 최고경영자의 주주서한을 공시하는 기업 집단은 그렇지 않은 기업집단보다 규모가 더 크고 성장성이 더 좋으며 수익성이 더 높고 손실발생이 더 적으며 대형회계법인으로부터 감사를 받는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 이런 기업일수록 이익조정을 더 많이 하고 기업의 회계투명성이 더 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 최고경영자 주주서한을 공시한 기업들 간의 경영기조의 차이는 회계투명성에 아무런 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 최고경영자가 교체 이후에 최고경영자가 활동성 기조, 낙관적인 기조 그리고 확실성 기조를 보일수록 기업의 회계투명성은 더 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 최고경영자의 경영기조 변화는 경영자 교체와 같은 중대한 사건을 전후 하여 회계투명성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 공헌점을 가진다. 첫째, 비감사정보인 최고경영자의 주주서한을 이용하여 경영기조를 측정하고 이를 회계의 투명성과 연결시킴으로서 감사분야에 그 정책적 함의를 제공한다. 둘째, 국내에서 최고경영자 주주서한의 회계정보로서의 가능성을 탐구한 기초 연구를 수행했다는 점이다. 하지만 본 연구는 다음과 같은 점에서 한계를 가진다. 첫째, DICTION 프로그램이 영문 주주서한만 분석이 가능하여 표본이 크게 제한되었다는 점이다. 둘째, 경영자 교체와 주주서한 공시 기업 조건을 동시에 만족하는 표본기업 수가 현저히 줄어들어 가설 검증결과를 일반화 하는 데는 한계가 있다는 점이다. The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of change of tone at top of CEO on the firm’s accounting transparency. Specifically, this paper applies DICTION, a Windows-based language analysis program, to CEO letters to shareholders to measure changes in the tone at the top. The research results are as follows. First, the business group that discloses the CEO letters to shareholders is larger in size, better growth, more profitable, less loss, and audited by large accounting firm. And these firms are more likely to manage earnings and show less accounting transparency. Second, the difference in the tone at the top among the companies that posted the CEO’s shareholder letter did not affect accounting transparency. Third, as the CEO showed activity, optimism, and certainty after the change, the firm’s accounting transparency was lower. In conclusion, the change of the tone at the top affects accounting transparency before and after major events such as management turnover. This study has the following contribution to the literature and practice. First, it provides policy implications to the auditing field by measuring the tone at the top using the CEO letter to shareholder, one of non-audit information and linking it with transparency of accounting. Second, we conducted a basic study that explored the potential of the CEO letter as accounting information. However, this study has limitations in the following points. First, the DICTION program was able to analyze only CEO letters to shareholders written in English, so the sample was limited accordingly. Second, there is a limit to generalizing Hypothesis 4, as the number of sample that simultaneously meet the conditions of management turnover and CEO letters to shareholders’ disclosures is significantly reduced.

        Rheological and Thermal Properties of Acrylonitrile-Acrylamide Copolymers: Influence of Polymerization Temperature

        An attempt was made to correlate the polymerization temperature and rheological and thermal properties of acrylonitrile (AN)-acrylamide (AM) copolymers. The copolymers were synthesized at different polymerization temperature. The copolymer structure was characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and Infrared spectrum (IR). The rheological and thermal properties were investigated by a viscometer and differential scanning calorimeter-thermogrametric (DSC-TG) analysis, respectively. When the polymerization temperature increased from $41^{\circ}C\;to\;65^{\circ}C$, the molecular weight $(\bar{M}_w)$ of copolymers decreased from 1,090,000 to 250,000, while its conversion increased from $18\%\;to\;63\%$, and the polymer composition changed slightly. To meet the requirements of carbon fibers, the rheological and thermal properties of products were also investigated. It was found that the relationship between viscosity and $\bar{M}_w$ was nonlinear and the viscosity index (n) decreased from 3.13 to 2.69, when the solution temperature increased from $30^{\circ}C\;to\;65^{\circ}C$. This suggests the dependence of viscosity upon $\bar{M}_w$ is higher at lower solution temperature. According to the result of activation energy, the sensivity of viscosity to solution temperature is higher for AN-AM copolymers synthesized at higher polymerization temperature. The result of thermal analysis shows that the copolymers obtained at higher polymerization temperature are easier to cyclization evidenced from lower initiation temperature. The weight loss behavior changed irregularly with polymerization temperature due to irregular change of liberation heat.

        Broadband multimode antenna and its array for wireless communication base stations

        A wideband dual‐polarized antenna coupling cross resonator is proposed for LTE700/GSM850/GSM900 base stations. An additional resonance is introduced to obtain strong coupling between the dipole and resonator. Moreover, the input impedance of the proposed antenna is steadily close to 50 Ω, which results in better impedance matching. Therefore, a wide bandwidth can be achieved with multiresonance. A prototype is fabricated to verify the proposed design. The measured results show that the antenna has a fractional bandwidth of 35.7% from 690 MHz to 990 MHz for |S11| < −15 dB. Stable radiation patterns as well as gain are also obtained over the entire operating band. Moreover, a five‐element antenna array with an electrical downtilt of 0° to 14° is developed for modern base station applications. Measurement shows that a wide impedance bandwidth of 34.7% (690 MHz to 980 MHz), stable HPBW (3‐dB beamwidth) of 65 ± 5°, and high gain of 13.8 ± 0.6 dBi are achieved with electrical downtilts of 0°, 7°, and 14°.

        Adaptive Robust Course-tracking Control of Time-varying Uncertain Ships with Disturbances

        In this paper, we address the problem of course-tracking for ships with unknown time-varying parameters, completely unknown time-varying control coefficient, and unknown time-varying bounded environmentaldisturbances. Incorporating a Nussbaum function and an adaptive law into the backstepping design method, wepropose a course-tracking control law. The strict stability analysis shows that the designed course-tracking controllaw makes the course-tracking error settle into an arbitrarily small compact and guarantees the global uniform ultimate boundedness of all signals of the resulting closed-loop system by appropriately choosing design parameters. Simulation results and simulation comparisons on two ships demonstrate the effectiveness and the superiority ofthe proposed course-tracking control law.

        High selectivity and removal efficiency of lotus root-based activated carbon towards Fe(III) in La(III) solution

        Rare earth elements are an important strategic resource. However, a trace of Fe(III) impurity has serious adverse impact on the performance of rare earth materials. We synthesized a novel nitrogen-containing carbon material, ACLR-400, using lotus root as raw materials. The ACLR-400 was characterized by surface area analyzer, elemental analysis and FT-IR. The selectivity and removal efficiency of ACLR-400 towards Fe(III) were also investigated. The BET specific surface area of ACLR-400 was 68.44m2·g−1, and the average pore diameter was 12.54 nm. With abundant nitrogen- containing functional groups and well-developed internal pore structure, ACLR-400 possesses strong adsorption affinity, excellent selectivity and removal efficiency for Fe(III). The adsorption capacity of ACLR-400 towards Fe(III) could reach to 0.46mmol·g−1, selectivity coefficient with respect to La(III) was 8.9, and removal efficiency was 99.61%. The adsorption isotherm data greatly obey the Freundlich isotherm. In addition, ACLR-400 can be regenerated easily and possesses better regeneration ability and reusability.

        Optimization for an active fountain pen nanolithography device fabrication

        In this paper, a comprehensive consideration for the optimization of the Active Fountain Pen Nanolithography (AFPN) device is presented. The material and the dimensions of the device are chosen for the final fabrication. First, the effect of the capillary pressure is analyzed. In this device, the ink is directed into a channel by capillary pressure which is inversely proportional to the size of the channel. When the size of channel is very small, the capping layer of the channel will deflect and cavitations will probably occur in the chamber due to the capillary pressure. However, with the correct structural design and an adequate channel material, the cavitations and the deflection of the channel can be greatly reduced. With this in mind, we increased the size of the device for ease of the fabrication and to avoid cavitations. The pumping performance is simulated under the actual deflection of the membrane by FLUENT. The results show that the mass flow rate at the outlet is dependent on the amount of membrane deformation. As a final step, the state of the ink at the tip after it fills the device is simulated, with SiN showing the best performance in decreasing the amount of ink on the tip.

      • Comprehensive Investigation on Current Imbalance among Parallel Chips inside MW-Scale IGBT Power Modules

        With the demands for increasing the power rating and improving reliability level of the high power IGBT modules, there are further needs of understanding how to achieve stable paralleling and identical current sharing between the chips. This paper investigates the stray parameters imbalance among parallel chips inside the 1.7 kV/1 kA high power IGBT modules at different frequencies by Ansys Q3D parastics extractor. The resulted current imbalance is further confirmed by experimental measurement.
