        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Pristine and Ru-doped LiNi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Mn<SUB>1.5</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> samples were synthesized using a simple carbon combustion method. Crystallographic analyses combining X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement confirmed that formation of the Li<SUB> <I>x</I> </SUB>Ni<SUB>1−<I>x</I> </SUB>O-like impurity phase is prevented and that the lattice parameter increases as a result of Ru doping. Furthermore, its structure is partially changed to the more disordered spinel phase (<I>Fd</I>3<I>m</I>). Both this structural change and the disappearance of the impurity phase greatly enhance the rate capability and cyclic retention of LiNi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Mn<SUB>1.5</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> LiNi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Mn<SUB>1.5</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> is doped with Ru<SUP>4+</SUP> to reduce the degree of cation ordering. </LI> <LI> Its structure is partially changed to more disordered spinel (<I>Fd</I>3<I>m</I>). </LI> <LI> This structural change is accompanied with the disappearance of impurity phase. </LI> <LI> These changes greatly enhance rate capability and cyclic retention of LiNi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Mn<SUB>1.5</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Food Packaging Requirements for In-Package Cold Plasma Treatment

        This study, for the first time, investigated the packaging requirements of in-package dielectric barrier discharge cold plasma treatment (DBD-CPT). The parameters determining packaging requirements include the internal oxygen concentration, headspace volume to sample volume ratio (HSR), direct or indirect treatment, and kind of packaging material. Grape tomato and mixed vegetables, composed of romaine lettuce, red cabbage, carrot with and without the inoculation with Salmonella, were subjected to DBD-CPT at 32.5 kV for 3 min. Increasing the oxygen concentration in the container from 5% to 90% did not influence Salmonella inactivation (p>0.05). Increasing the HSR of air packaging material from 54:1 to 522:1 increased Salmonella inhibition on grape tomato (p<0.05). Higher Salmonella inhibition was found in grape tomatoes in directly treated salads than in indirect-treated salads (p<0.05). The inactivation of indigenous mesophilic aerobic bacteria was exhibited higher when packaged with PE than with PET (p<0.05). Optimal package requirements were determined as HSR of 522:1, direct treatment, and uses of PE as packaging material for the microbial inactivation using in-package cold plasma treatment. DBD-CPT increased the water vapor permeability of all packaging materials (p<0.05), but did not change their tensile properties and transparency (p>0.05). Overall, DBD-CPT was found effective in decontaminating mixed vegetables, prepackaged with commercial packages, without affecting the tensile and optical properties of the packages. Furthermore, the HSR, the electrode-container distance and kind of packaging material were identified as the major packaging requirements affecting the microbial inactivation efficacy of in-packaged cold plasma treatment.

      • Investigation on the Dispersion Compensation Algorithm in Optical Fiber Communication with Large Capacity

        Optical network faces increasing challenges with the development of telecommunication demand. The fiber must carry much more transmission channels with higher optical power and transmission rate and it causes higher dispersion. At present, people have proposed some technical solution for this problem, including the dispersion compensation fiber (DCF), midpoint spectral inversion, dispersion managed transmission, chirped fiber grating (FBG), and so on. But algorithm with higher compensating efficiency is still needed. In this paper, we propose a modified algorithm to compensate the dispersion. With the simulation method, we obtained the characteristics of dispersion and dispersion slope with the variation of wavelength λ, and some useful conclusion has been acquired. With the increasing of wavelength λ, dispersion and its slope coefficient have different variation disciplinarian. From the simulation results, we can verify the conclusion that it needs to optimize the design of the structure of optical fiber if we want to compensate the dispersion and dispersion slope simultaneously.

      • Preoperative Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio as a Prognostic Factor in Patients with Non-metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma

        Background: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a strong predictor of mortality in patients with colorectal, lung, gastric cancer, pancreatic and metastatic renal cell carcinoma. We here evaluated whether preoperative NLR is an independent prognostic factor for non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Materials and Methods: Data from 327 patients who underwent curative or palliative nephrectomy were evaluated retrospectively. In preoperative blood routine examination, neutrophils and lymphocytes were obtained. The predictive value of NLR for non-metastatic RCC was analyzed. Results: The NLR of 327 patients was $2.72{\pm}2.25$. NLR <1.7 and NLR ${\geq}1.7$ were classified as low and high NLR groups, respectively. Chi-square test showed that the preoperative NLR was significantly correlated with the tumor size (P=0.025), but not with the histological subtype (P=0.095)and the pT stage (P=0.283). Overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Effects of NLR on OS (P=0.007) and DFS (P=0.011) were significant. To evaluate the independent prognostic significance of NLR, multivariate COX regression models were applied and identified increased NLR as an independent prognostic factor for OS (P=0.015), and DFS (P=0.019). Conclusions: Regarding patient survival, an increased NLR represented an independent risk factor, which might reflect a higher risk for severe cardiovascular and other comorbidities. An elevated blood NLR may be a biomarker of poor OS and DFS in patients with non-metastatic RCC.

      • Evaluation of a FPGA controlled distributed PV system under partial shading condition

        This study designs and tests a photovoltaic system with distributed maximum power point tracking (DMPPT) methodology using a field programmable gate array (FPGA) controller. Each solar panel in the distributed PV system is equipped with a newly designed DC/DC converter and the panel's voltage output is regulated by a FPGA controller using PI control. Power from each solar panel on the system is optimized by another controller where the quadratic maximization MPPT algorithm is used to ensure the panel's output power is always maximized. Experiments are carried out at atmospheric insolation with partial shading conditions using 4 amorphous silicon thin film solar panels of 2 different grades fabricated by Chi-Mei Energy. It is found that distributed MPPT requires only 100ms to find the maximum power point of the system. Compared with the traditional centralized PV (CPV) system, the distributed PV (DPV) system harvests more than 4% of solar energy in atmospheric weather condition, and 22% in average under 19% partial shading of one solar panel in the system. Test results for a 1.84 kW rated system composed by 8 poly-Si PV panels using another DC/DC converter design also confirm that the proposed system can be easily implemented into a larger PV power system. Additionally, the use of NI sbRIO-9642 FPGA-based controller is capable of controlling over 16 sets of PV modules, and a number of controllers can cooperate via the network if needed.

        [Reivew]Prediction of Cervical Cancer Risk from Taking Hormone Contraceptivese

        In this study, research was conducted to predict the probability of cervical cancer occurrence associated with the use of hormonal contraceptives. Cervical cancer is influenced by various environmental factors; however, the human papillomavirus (HPV) is detected in 99% of cases, making it the primary attributed cause. Additionally, although cervical cancer ranks 10th in overall female cancer incidence, it is nearly 100% preventable among known cancers. Early-stage cervical cancer typically presents no symptoms but can be detected early through regular screening. Therefore, routine tests, including cytology, should be conducted annually, as early detection significantly improves the chances of successful treatment. Thus, we employed artificial intelligence technology to forecast the likelihood of developing cervical cancer. We utilized the logistic regression algorithm, a predictive model, through Microsoft Azure. The classification model yielded an accuracy of 80.8%, a precision of 80.2%, a recall rate of 99.0%, and an F1 score of 88.6%. These results indicate that the use of hormonal contraceptives is associated with an increased risk of cervical cancer. Further development of the artificial intelligence program, as studied here, holds promise for reducing mortality rates attributable to cervical cancer.

        외상 환자에서 초음파 유도 내경정맥 도관 삽입 시카테터 바늘과 피부 사이의 적정 각도

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the optimal insertion angle between the skin and the needle in ultrasound-guided internal jugular vein (IJV) catheterization with trauma patients. Methods: From March 2012 to December 2012, consecutive trauma patients who were planned to receive IJV catheterization were prospectively enrolled. We measured the distances from the skin to IJV`s anterior-posterior (AP) vessel wall on the longitudinal scan`s midline in supine-positioned patients. We calculated the AP diameter of IJV and the angle between skin and the imaginary line from the puncture site to the IJV`s internal center on screen`s midline (defined as optimal angle which is considered as the safest approach) on the longitudinal scan. We divided the patients into 3 groups based on the CVP (low CVP <5 cmH2O, 5≤ middle CVP ≤10 cmH2O, and high CVP>10 cmH2O) and compared their mean anterior posterior (AP) diameters and optimal angles. Results: A total of 56 patients were enrolled. Of these 21 were women(35.4%). The mean AP diameter of low CVP group was significantly lower than middle and high CVP groups(0.68±0.30, 1.06±0.31, and 1.23±0.49 cm respectively, p=0.003 vs. 0.002). There was no significant difference among 3 groups` mean optimal angles (28.1±6.1, 30.1±4.5, and 28.0±5.0 degree respectively). Conclusion: The optimal angle between the skin and the needle in ultrasound-guided IJV catheterization with trauma patients is not changed as about 30 degrees regardless of CVP even though IJV`s diameter is altered in proportion to the CVP.
