The little-cone limpet Patelloida conulus (Dunker, 1861) is a member of the Lottiidae, occurring on sandy and muddy tidal flats in the intertidal zone, and is found living symbiotically on shells of mud snails, which often occurs in a high density in sandy and muddy intertidal areas. In this study, we first report association of the little-cone limpets with mud snails from an intertidal sandy beach at Sungsan on the northeast coast of Jeju Island. At the upper intertidal area, the common mud snail Batillaria attramentaria (G. B. Sowerby I, 1855) occurred at a high density, and P. conulus was found on the shell surface. Shell height of the little-cone limpet ranged from 2.6 to 6.6 mm (N = 7), and the host snail carried one P. conulus on its shell in most cases. The little-cone limpet and the mud snail association has been regarded as being restricted to the Batillariidae, while we observed for the first time the occurrence of P. conulus on the cerithiid snail Rhincoclavis kochi (Philippi, 1848).

At the beginning of this millennium robotic surgery was launched and quickly became accepted in many surgical specialties. Initially only resection procedures were performed with a few surgical steps made towards reconstructive elements. Robotic surgery helped to overcome disadvantages seen and experienced when performing laparoscopic procedures, mainly lack of haptic feedback, lack of ‘free movement’ in the abdominal cavity and inferior visualization. Since its initiation, robotic surgery was utilized more and more in complex procedures. Its use in complex liver and pancreatic surgery is still controversial as it requires a high volume center and superb training to achieve acceptable results. Robotic surgery for hepato-pancre-ato-biliary disease is only performed by a few centers in the United States. A team approach is mandatory and the bed side assistant is as important as the console surgeon in achieving acceptable oncological outcome. This article aims to review the most recent literature and gives some personal views into the near future with anticipated development of this exciting technology.
Declining Fertility in Two Koreas: The Demographic Implications for a Korean Reunification

Declining fertility has occurred within both North and South Korea. The shifting fertility trends within both countries may have important implications upon their eventual reunification. Prior research has identified the demographic advantage of a relatively young population in relation to the actual German reunification in 1990. Conversely, demographers have identified a demographic disadvantage, in that the ratio of South to North Koreans is relatively low. This study reexamines whether changes in fertility levels in both Koreas have altered the demographic advantages and disadvantages highlighted in prior studies. The findings suggest that below replacement level fertility within the two Koreas as well as the relatively higher fertility in North Korea may not only erode the demographic benefit identified in the earlier study, but also exacerbate the demographic disadvantage. Thus, from a demographic standpoint, reunification at an earlier point in time may be more beneficial than at a later one.
Using Choice-Based Conjoint Analysis to Determine Smartphone Choice - a Student’s Perspective

The ability of smartphones to facilitate various services like mobile banking, e-commerce and mobile payments has made them part of consumers’ lives. Conjoint analysis (CA) is a marketing research approach used to assess how consumers’ preferences for products or services develop. The potential applications of CA are numerous in consumer electronics, banking and insurance services, job selection and workplace loyalty, consumer packaged goods, and travel and tourism. Choice-Based Conjoint (CBC) analysis is the most commonly used CA approach in marketing research. The purpose of this study is to utilise CBC analysis to investigate the relative importance of smartphone attributes that influence consumer smartphone preference. An experiment was designed using Sawtooth CBC Software. 326 students attempted the online survey. Utility values were derived by Hierarchical Bayes (HB) estimation and used to explain consumers’ smartphone preferences. All the six attributes used for the study were found to significantly influence smartphone preference. Smartphone brand was the most important, followed by the price, camera, RAM, battery life, and storage. This study is one of the first to use Sawtooth CBC analysis to assess consumer smartphone preference based on the six attributes. We provide implications for the development of new smartphones based on attributes.
Wage Decompositions using Panel Data Sample Selection Correction

This paper analyzes wage decomposition methodology in the context of panel data sample selection embedded in a correlated random effects setting. Identification issues unique to panel data are examined for their implications for wage decompositions. As an empirical example, we apply our methodology to the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) data with which we investigate gender wage differentials in the German Labor Market. Our results highlight the sensitivity of inferences about potential discrimination to how elements of the panel data selection model are assigned to explained and unexplained components.
