      • Overview of the ongoing researches on the invasion of Vespa velutina var. nigrothorax (hym.: vespidae), the asian hornet, in europe.

        The highabundance and impact on honeybees of the Asian hornet Vespa velutina var. nigrithorax have caused great concern among European public authorities and beekeepers. The species was reported for the first time in France in 2005 and spread out across 66 European districts (ca. 360 000 km 2 ) within 7 years (INPN, 2012; Rome et al., 2013). Its arrival was reported in 2010 in Northern Spain, in 2011 in Portugal and Belgium and in 2013 in Italy. Its wider expansion in Europe is soon to be expected. We discuss here the advances of the collaborative research project initiated in 2008 in France. 1. The potential invasion risk of the species was assessed using modeling tools of climatic suitability (Villemant et al., 2011, Barbet-Massin et al., 2013). Interestingly, the potential distribution of V. v. nigrithorax matches the current distribution of another invasive social wasp, the German yellow jacket, Vespula germanica (Beggs et al., 2011). 2. Apartfrom reported damages on hives, little is known on the biology of V. velutina throughout its native Asian range. In the invaded range, the impact of V. v. nigrithorax on the diversity and biomass of the invertebrate fauna is under study. Preliminary results reported a diversified diet varying among seasons and habitat types. 3. The genetic variability between individuals of V. v. nigrithorax from France and Asia was assessed in order to describe the history of its invasion. The analysis has evidenced a low variability among the invasive population, which indicates a single introduction of one or more queens. The sampling of specimens in France and in the area of origin has been extended to confirm this hypothesis and the most probable area of origin (Arca, 2012). Given the potential economic and biological impact of V. v. nigrithorax, a better understanding of its invasion dynamics is necessary to predict regions at risk, hence to help with planning dedicated control measures, a prerequisite for replacing the reactive nature of current solutions with a proactive, predictive approach.

        유럽 U3A 비교분석을 통한 한국형 노인 대학평생교육 모형 제언

        우리나라는 2026년 65세 이상 인구가 천만 명으로 전체 인구의 20%를 넘어 초고령사회로 진입하게 된다. 베이비붐 세대가 노인인구로 편입되면서‘인생 100세 시대 자기계발’ 이란 개인적 요구가 커지고 사회적으로는 양극화가 가속화되는 가운데 민주적인 공동체 건설과 유지를 위한 노인의 역할에 대한 요구가 커지고 있다. 따라서 노인평생교육도 그간여가와 복지 중심의 노인학습 패러다임에서 노인의 의식화와 성장 및 사회참여를 지원하는방향으로 전환되어야 할 필요가 커지고 있다. 이 논문은 이러한 문제의식을 가지고 우리나라 노인 대학평생교육 체제 구축을 위한 모형을 제시하고자 문헌분석을 통해 영국형과 대륙형으로 대별되는 영국과 독일의‘제3기 인생대학(U3A)’의 설립 역사를 파악하고 각각의교육목표, 운영체계, 참여자 및 교육내용을 중심으로 비교분석 하였다. 연구 결과, 대륙형U3A 적용, 한국형 플랫폼 제공방식, 한국형 전문가 제공방식 및 영국형 U3A 적용의 네 가지 모형이 제시되었다. 또한 각 모형의 적용과 운영에 있어 필요한 제언과 함께 변화하는사회와 노인세대의 요구에 맞는 역량개발 및 사회적 자본의 확대를 위해 고등교육기관인대학이 참여하는 노인 대학평생교육에 대한 활발한 논의가 필요함을 주장하였다. As the baby-boomer generation of Korea is incorporated into the elderly population, personal needs for self-development and the demands for building a democratic community are growing. Lifelong education for seniors needs to be shifted from the paradigm of leisure and welfare to the paradigm of lifelong education, led by universities or equivalent educational organizations, that supports the awareness, growth, and social participation of the senior citizen. Considering this issue, this study is to present possible models for establishing university-led lifelong education system for seniors in Korea. Therefore, this research is to conduct a comparative analysis of the literature on the history of U3A development, educational goals, operating system, learner characteristics, and educational contents on the UK and Germany and to present a Korean university-led lifelong education model for seniors and suggestions for its implementation. As a result, the Korean model was presented in four different models: Continental U3A model application, university platform provision, expert provision, and British U3A model application. The suggested directions of Korean U3A are: first, universities and other organizations need to be involved and offer learners quality education and certificates afterwards. Second, the educational goals and contents of education need to be structured for the expansion of social capital of seniors and therefore community development.

        Zinc finger protein 143 expression is closely related to tumor malignancy via regulating cell motility in breast cancer

        We previously reported the involvement of zinc-finger protein 143 (ZNF143) on cancer cell motility in colon cancer cells. Here, ZNF143 was further characterized in breast cancer. Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the expression of ZNF143 in normal tissues and in tissues from metastatic breast cancer at various stages. Notably, ZNF143 was selectively expressed in duct and gland epithelium of normal breast tissues, which decreased when the tissue became malignant. To determine the molecular mechanism how ZNF143 affects breast cancer progression, it was knocked down by infecting benign breast cancer cells with short-hairpin (sh) RNA-lentiviral particles against ZNF143 (MCF7 sh-ZNF143). MCF7 sh-ZNF143 cells showed different cell-cell contacts and actin filament (F-actin) structures when compared with MCF7 sh-Control cells. In migration and invasion assays, ZNF143 knockdown induced increased cellular motility in breast carcinoma cells. This was reduced by the recovery of ZNF143 expression. Taken together, these results suggest that ZNF143 expression contributes to breast cancer progression. [BMB Reports 2017; 50(12): 621-627]

        GAIP-Interacting Protein, C-Terminus Is In-volved in the Induction of Zinc-Finger Protein 143 in Response to Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 in Colon Cancer Cells

        Previously, we reported that the expression of zinc-finger protein 143 (ZNF143) was induced by insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) via reactive oxygen species (ROS)- and phosphatidylinositide-3-kinase (PI3-kinase)-linked path-ways in colon cancer cells. Here, we investigated whether GAIP-interacting protein, C-terminus (GIPC), a binding partner of IGF-1R, is involved in ZNF143 expression through IGF-1 and IGF-1R signaling in colon cancer cells. The knockdown of GIPC in colon cancer cells reduced ZNF143 expression in response to IGF-1. IGF-1 signaling through its receptor, leading to the phosphorylation and activation of the PI3-kinase-Akt pathway and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) was unaffected by the knockdown of GIPC, indicating the independence of the GIPC-linked pathway from PI3-kinase- and MAPK-linked signaling in IGF-1-induced ZNF143 expression. In accor-dance with previous results in breast cancer cells (Choi et al., 2010), the knockdown of GIPC reduced ROS production in response to IGF-1 in colon cancer cells. Furthermore, the knockdown of GIPC reduced the expression of Rad51, which is regulated by ZNF143, in response to IGF-1 in colon cancer cells. Taken together, these data suggest that GIPC is involved in IGF-1 signaling leading to ZNF143 expression through the regulation of ROS production, which may play a role for colon cancer tumorigenesis.

        국내 외국인 노동자의 시민권과 평생학습권에 대한 초국적 접근

        이 논문은 국내에서 일정 기간 머무르며 노동력을 제공하는, 언젠가 자신들의 나라로 돌아갈 ‘이방인’인 동시에 일정기간 한국을 삶의 터전으로 삼고 있는 ‘거주자’인 이주노동자를 둘러싼 시민권의 의미를 초국가적 관점에서 재해석하고, 그동안 외국인 노동자들이 가진 ‘권리’에 대한 모호함과 시민권 중 사회권이자 현대사회의 실제적 시민권으로 기능해 온 평생학습권에 대한 고찰을 통해 배타적 국민국가 담론의 균열을 지적하였다. 그 결과, 이 논문은 평생학습자로서의 외국인 노동자들이 외국인을 받아들이는 국민국가의 태도의 양 축인 국가주의와 세계시민주의 사이, 개인 및 국가의 수월성 추구와 사회통합 및 정의실현이라는 평생학습의 양대 목적 사이에서 불완전한 권리를 가진 존재로 위치하며 이들의 평생학습권 역시 시민성 담론과 평생학습 패러다임 사이에 균열을 가져오는 것으로 파악하였다. 한국 사회에서 노동을 하고 세금을 내는 경제 구성원이자, 지역사회에서 소비와 여가를 행하는 사회 구성원으로서 실존하는 외국인 노동자의 평생학습권을 초국적 관점에서 새롭게 통찰하는 이론적 시각과 이에 따라 이들을 포함하는 시민사회에 걸맞는 평생학습 체계의 구축과 이에 대한 논의를 제안하였다. This article aims to reconsider the concept of citizenship and lifelong learning for migrant workers. These individuals are often treated as perpetual strangers who should return to their home country, as well as inevitable key workers in the labor market. In this regard, this article critically reviewed vague intersection and disjuncture of migrant workers’ citizenship and lifelong learning in the era of global migration context engaging with transnational perspective. Furthermore, this article examined the intersections and disjunctures between migrant workers’ citizenship and lifelong education in the context of an era of global migration. It underlines a need in Korean society to widen understanding of migrant workers’ citizenship as well as their lifelong learning opportunities. Policy suggestions aimed at empowering migrant workers’ education throughout their lives which could lead a new social configuration engaging with migrant workers in Korean society.

        IGF-1 induces expression of zinc-finger protein 143 in colon cancer cells through phosphatidylinositide 3-kinase and reactive oxygen species

        Expression of zinc-finger protein 143 (ZNF143), a human homolog of the Xenopus transcriptional activator protein Staf, is induced by various DNA-damaging agents including etoposide, doxorubicin, and γ-irradiation. ZNF143 binds to cisplatin-modified DNA,and its levels are increased in cancer cells that are resistant to anticancer drugs, including cisplatin, suggesting that it plays a role in carcinogenesis and cancer cell survival. However, the mechanism of ZNF143 induction in cancer cells remains unclear. Both insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and its receptor (IGF-1R) have been reported to be overexpressed in cancer cells and to be related to anticancer drug resistance,but the identity of the relevant signaling mediators is still being investigated. In the present study, we observed that IGF-1 was able to induce ZNF143 expression in HCT116 human colon cancer cells and that wortmannin, an inhibitor of phosphatidylinositide 3-kinase (PI3-kinase), inhibited this induction, as did diphenyleneiodonium (DPI), an NADPH oxidase inhibitor,and monodansylcardavarine (MDC), a receptor internalization inhibitor. Treatment with MDC decreased the IGF-1-stimulated generation of reactive oxygen species. Taken together, these data suggest that IGF-1 induces ZNF143 expression in cancer cells via PI3-kinase and reactive oxygen species generation during receptor internalization.

        Tight junction protein 1 is regulated by transforming growth factor-β and contributes to cell motility in NSCLC cells

        Tight junction protein 1 (TJP1), a component of tight junction, has been reported to play a role in protein networks as an adaptor protein, and TJP1 expression is altered during tumor development. Here, we found that TJP1 expression was increased at the RNA and protein levels in TGF-β-stimulated lung cancer cells, A549. SB431542, a type-I TGF-β receptor inhibitor, as well as SB203580, a p38 kinase inhibitor, significantly abrogated the effect of TGF-β on TJP1 expression. Diphenyleneiodonium, an NADPH oxidase inhibitor, also attenuated TJP1 expression in response to TGF-β in lung cancer cells. When TJP1 expression was reduced by shRNA lentiviral particles in A549 cells (A549-sh TJP1), wound healing was much lower than in cells infected with control viral particles. Taken together, these data suggest that TGF-β enhances TJP1 expression, which may play a role beyond structural support in tight junctions during cancer development.
