        Population Structure of Codium amplivesiculatum (Chlorophyta) Associated with Rhodolith Beds from the Southwestern Gulf of California

        Populations of Codium amplivesiculatum were found in association with rhodolith beds. We present population trends of C. amplivesiculatum from surveys conducted in the southwestern Gulf of California based on monthly sampling from June 1999 to August 2000. Surveys were conducted at 2 sites in the San Lorenzo Channel at depths of 8 - 12 m. The parameters measured were percent cover, biomass and structure in relation to size of the thalli. From each thallus the following measurements were taken: length and diameter, proportion of each thallus with reproductive structures and the degree of fragmentation (measured as number of small thalli). Mean biomass and cover varied seasonally with the maximum (1036.6 g m–2 and 100% cover) present in June 2000 and the minimum in winter (0 g m–2 and 0% cover). The longest fronds (3 m) occurred during July 1999 and August 2000, while the maximum diameters of 1.0 cm were present during October and November 1999. There were no significant linear relationships between length and diameter of the fronds, suggesting independent growth. Reproductive structures were common in June and July 1999 with monoic and dioic thalli present. Most fronds were monoic, and this is the first record of this feature for this species. Fragmentation occurred in September, and may be associated with stress from early gametangial reproduction and the combination of high temperatures and low nutrients. A hypothetical life cycle for the species is presented.

        Accumulation of High Levels of ABA Regulates the Pleiotropic Response of the nhr1 Arabidopsis Mutant

        Plants have evolved a variety of mechanisms for responding to environmental cues, which allows them to survive in the presence of limited resources or environmental stresses. One of the most significant growth adaptations plants have attained is tropism, a growth response that involves bending of plant organs toward or away from a stimulus. Roots exhibit hydrotropism in response to moisture gradients, which is thought to be critical in acquiring water and establishing their stand in the soil. However, the mechanism underlying hydrotropism remains unsolved. Here, we report that the no hydrotropic response (nhr1) mutant of Arabidopsis, which is impaired in hydrotropism, is tolerant to drought. The no hydrotropic response phenotype of nhr1 was repressed by AbamineSG,an inhibitor of abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis, indicating that ABA negatively regulates hydrotropism. Furthermore,the content of ABA was higher in nhr1 compared to those of wild type (wt). However, the higher ABA levels in nhr1plants were not due to higher transcript levels of 9-cisepoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED3), since these were diminished compared to those of wt. Our results indicated that the root hydrotropic response of the nhr1 mutant is modulated by ABA and that the higher ABA levels of the mutant might confer it drought resistance.

        PLASMON RESONANCE AND RAMAN MODES IN Pb NANOPARTICLES OBTAINED IN EXTRACT OF OPUNTIA FICUS-INDICA PLANT

        Colloidal nanoparticles were obtained by green synthesis, embedded in the Opuntia ¯cus-indicaplant extract. Optical measurements allowed us to detect two absorption bands centered in230 nm and 298 nm. Agglomerates of Pb nanoparticles have size in the range 2 – 8 nm. The ef-fective absorption cross section of spherical Pb nanoparticles was calculated by applying the Mietheory for colloidal systems and compared to optical absorption measurements of Pb nano-particles. The Raman spectrum of the samples after the reduction of Pb, shows a band at lowwavenumbers centered at 116 cm? 1 . Similar bands have been assigned to small Pb and Agclusters in other experimental results. Additionally, we used the density functional theory (DFT)as well as semi-empirical methods to assign this band to radial breathing modes of Pb metalnanoparticles.

        Low Wavenumber Raman Modes and Plasmon Resonance in Cd Nanoparticles Obtained in Extract of Opuntia ficus-indica Plant

        "Cadmium colloidal crystalline nanoparticles were obtained by a simple green synthesis method employing the plant extract of Opuntia ficus-indica. The plant extract reduces the Cd ions and stabilizes the size of cadmium colloidal particles at the nanometric level. The size and morphology of agglomerates of nanoparticles of about 100 nm were analyzed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The size, shape and crystalline structure of the Cd nanoparticles were determined from TEM analysis. The results show that Cd nanoparticles with hexagonal crystalline structure and average size 2–3 nm were obtained by this green synthesis method. The optical absorption spectrum of the colloidal solution containing the cadmium nanoparticles displays an optical absorption band centered at 236 nm, which was attributed to the plasmon resonance of the Cd colloidal nanoparticles. Mie theory for colloidal systems was applied to reproduce theoretically the plasmon resonance absorption data of the Cd colloidal nanoparticles. Furthermore, the Raman spectrum of powder from dried samples after reduction of cadmium ions, displays a low wavenumber vibration mode centered at 114 cm-1, assigned to the Cd nanoparticles. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations at local spin density approximation (LSDA) level were performed to determine the structure and vibrational properties of small clusters of cadmium consisting of 3–10 atoms. Radial breathing modes with frequencies between 90 cm-1 and 120 cm-1 were found to be the most active Raman modes of the low-energy Cdn clusters."

        Personality Traits, Positive Emotions and Psychological Well-Being of Telecommunications Distribution Employees

        Purpose: Personality qualities are essential to the prosperity of any contemporary company because they foster the growth of pleasant emotions in telecommunications distribution employees. Research design, data and methodology: Thus improving their overall psychological well-being and productivity. Talent retention is facilitated by mutual respect between management and staff. The success of the company as a whole, including the development and maintenance of emotions with customers, also depends on the psychological wellbeing of employees. The aim is to demonstrate how a positive and satisfied emotional workforce contributes to psychological well-being in the 21st century. Result: The research aims to better understand the personality traits that influence the psychological well-being of employees. In addition, between January and March 2023, a total of 179 employees in the telecommunications distribution industry in the Peruvian city of Chiclayo were surveyed using structural modelling methods to measure employee satisfaction. It also shows how various ideas, approaches and models can be used in the real world. Conclusion: The significance of the model on the perception of telecommunications workers in Peru is demonstrated by the results, which indicate an R2 value of 0.681 for positive emotions and an R2 value of 0.792 for employees' psychological well-being.
