Background/Aims: Multiple white and flat elevated lesions (MWFL) that develop from the gastric corpus to the fornix may be strongly associated with oral antacid intake. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association between the occurrence of MWFL and oral proton pump inhibitor (PPI) intake and clarify the endoscopic and clinicopathological characteristics of MWFL. Methods: The study included 163 patients. The history of oral drug intake was collected, and serum gastrin levels and anti-Helicobacter pylori immunoglobulin G antibody titers were measured. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was performed. The primary study endpoint was the association between MWFL and oral PPI intake. Results: In the univariate analyses, MWFL were observed in 35 (49.3%) of 71 patients who received oral PPIs and 10 (10.9%) of 92 patients who did not receive oral PPIs. The occurrence of MWFL was significantly higher among patients who received PPIs than in those who did not (p<0.001). Moreover, the occurrence of MWFL was significantly higher in patients with hypergastrinemia (p=0.005). In the multivariate analyses, oral PPI intake was the only significant independent factor associated with the presence of MWFL (p=0.001; odds ratio, 5.78; 95% confidence interval, 2.06–16.2). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that oral PPI intake is associated with the presence of MWFL (UMINCTR 000030144).

This article examines the way the World Bank policy discourse in education relates development to quality of education and the underlying agenda. It argues that development and education have been defined deficiently, adhering to neoliberal ideology that benchmarks economic outcome. The conceptual formulation of quality of education draws heavily from the business domain, which ensures operational compatibility between the pursued reductionist notion of development and the narrowed role of education it entails. In the World Bank's policy papers, this reductionist conceptualization of development and education, reinforced by corporatist construction of quality of education, facilitates the neoliberalization of education, mostly of higher education. This is textually worked out using effective discursive tools that “naturalize” the visibility of the neoliberal mandate, creating a moral obligatory aura camouflaged under a common sense-driven humanistic concern to achieve consensus. Recently, quality of education has been instrumentalized by the Bank to formulate a global super-structure for data collection and dissemination on learning outcomes to ensure neoliberal control and competition at all levels of education.

Background/Aims: While the occurrence of multiple whitish flat elevated lesions (MWFL) was first reported in 2007, no studieson MWFL have been published to date. The present retrospective observational study aimed to clarify the endoscopic findings andclinicopathological features of MWFL. Methods: Subjects were consecutive patients who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy as part of routine screening betweenApril 2014 and March 2015. The conventional white-light, non-magnifying and magnifying narrow-band images were reviewed. Clinical features were compared between patients with and without MWFL. Results: The conventional endoscopic findings of MWFL include multiple whitish, flat, and slightly elevated lesions of various sizes, mainly located in the gastric body and fundus. Narrow-band imaging enhanced the contrast of MWFL and background mucosa, and magnifying narrow-band imaging depicted a uniformly long, narrow, and elliptical marginal crypt epithelium with an unclearmicrovascular pattern. Histopathological findings revealed hyperplastic changes of the foveolar epithelium, and parietal cell protrusionsand oxyntic gland dilatations were observed in the fundic glands, without any intestinal metaplasia. The rate of acid-reducing drug usewas significantly higher in patients with MWFL than in those without (100% [13/13] vs. 53.7% [88/164], p<0.001). Conclusions: The present study indicated a relationship between the presence and endoscopic features of MWFL and history of acidreducingdrug use.

Sintered Hydroxyapatite (HA) has been used as bone graft for years. Nevertheless, its slow resorbability is the main drawbacks. This study aims to evaluate the effect of temperature on phase transformation and mechanical property of non-sintered HA obtained from gypsum block under hydrothermal and its solubility compared to commercially available sintered HA. HA block was fabricated from gypsum block in Na3PO4.12H2O solution at 100 °C, 140 °C, and 180 °C for 24 h under hydrothermal. It was found that pure HA block could be obtained at 180 °C. The diametral tensile strength (DTS) of the obtained HA block decreased considerably compared to set gypsum block. The obtained HA has higher solubility in acetate buffer compared to commercial sintered HA, which predicts its higher osteoclastic resorption. In Tris–HCl buffer, the obtained HA has lower solubility compared to the commercial sintered HA. In conclusion, non-sintered HA block could be obtained via hydrothermal at 180 °C for 24 h. The DTS values of the obtained blocks decreased with the increase of hydrothermal temperature. The current non-sintered HA block showed better solubility in acetate buffer compared to sintered HA, which simulated its resorbability in osteoclastic environment.

To understand the intrinsic effect of a hot-carrier injection on high-kappa dielectrics free from concurrent cold-carrier trapping, the authors have investigated a hot-carrier-induced damage with channel hot-carrier stresses and substrate hot-carrier stress. Compared to substrate hot-carrier stress, the channel hot-carrier stress shows a more significant cold-carrier-injection effect. By using a detrapping bias, they were able to decouple the effect of cold-carrier trapping from the permanent trap generation induced by the hot-carrier injection. As channel hot-carrier stress bias was reduced, a portion of cold-carrier trapping increased and a portion of interface trap generation decreased
