Effect of Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 on Osteoprotegerin Gene Expression
Ren, Yi,Wise, Gary E. Korean Academy of Oral Biology and the UCLA Dental 2003 International Journal of Oral Biology Vol.28 No.1
Tooth eruption requires the recruitment of mononuclear cells (osteoclast precursors) into the dental follicle where they fuse to form osteoclasts that resorb the alveolar bone for tooth eruption. In the rat first mandibular molar, the dental follicle expresses the monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) gene at the time of maximal influx of mononuclear cells into the follicle, day 3 postnatally. At this time, the expression of the osteoprotegerin (OPG) gene also is reduced such that osteoclast formation would not be inhibited. Thus, at day 3, a maximal number of osteoclasts are seen on the alveolar bone surrounding the unerupted tooth. In this study, we wished to determine if MCP-1, in addition to its potential chemotactic role, also contributed to the decrease in the gene expression of OPG in cultured dental follicle cells. The results showed that indeed NCP-1 reduced OPG gene expression in both a time-and dosage-dependent manner with maximal inhibition at 3 hrs at a concentration of 10 ng/ml. Immunostaining showed that MCP-1 reduced the protein levels of OPG in the cultured cells. Thus MCP-1 is another molecule produced by the dental follicle that may inhibit OPG gene expression at a critical time to enable osteoclast formation to occur for tooth eruption.
Henkel Technology and Product Development for OLED Encapsulation and Assembly
( Renyi Wang ) 한국공업화학회 2016 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2016 No.1
AMOLED encapsulation and module assembly post new challenging requirements for material suppliers. For flexible and foldable AMOLED display such challenges became even more stringent. This presentation will highlight where AMOLED display is calling for high-performing materials ranging from barrier films and PSA for encapsulation, to sealant, adhesives, encapsulants and printable conductive inks for module assemblies. This presentation will also introduce Henkel`s technology development and product offering in a number of AMOLED display applications.

The genus Sinocyclocheilus is a representative group of cave creatures. However, genetic studies on Sinocyclocheilus are rare. The primary objective of this study was to explore the structure and feature of the complete mitochondrial genome of S. multipunctatus, and reconstruct the mitogenomic phylogeny of Sinocyclocheilus. The mitochondrial DNA of S. multipunctatus was amplified by overlapping PCR fragments. The mitogenome was assembled by the SeqMan and annotated using MitoAnnotator. The phylogenetic tree was established using the Bayesian inference and Maximum likelihood methods. The mitogenome of S. multipunctatus is a typical circular molecule of 16,586 bp with base composition A (31.25%), T (25.90%), G (16.35%), and C (26.50%), and consists of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs) genes, two ribosomal RNAs, and a 931 bp control region. Phylogenetic analysis reveals two clades in the Sinocyclocheilus with robust support. S. multipunctatus is close to a newly discovered cavefish, S. ronganensis. We obtained and described the complete mitogenome of S. multipunctatus, and investigated its phylogenetic status, which may provide a valuable resource for future phylogenetic analyses and population genetic studies in Sinocyclocheilus.

This paper addresses the historical development and general characteristics of American Studies in China and examines its strengths and weaknesses with a case study of an American Studies graduate program in Beijing. The paper first provides an overview of the history of American Studies in China since 1979, the year that marked the normalization of the Sino-US diplomatic relationship and the institutionalization of American Studies as an academic field. Second, it summarizes the unique characteristics of American Studies in China and lists major challenges it now faces for further development. The third part uses the American Studies Center at Beijing Foreign Studies University, a flagship graduate-level study and research program in China, as a case study to examine more closely the accomplishments of the past 30 years and the challenges faced at the current stage. A questionnaire survey conducted among its alumni and a content analysis evaluation of all available M.A. theses demonstrate that the flagship program has its language strength and unique pedagogical accomplishments. However, the program has been uneven in disciplinary development and research training. The findings suggest that for further growth, the program should design more balanced curricula, put greater emphasis on research training, and incorporate more interdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary approaches into American Studies.

An Object-Level Feature Representation Model for the Multi-target Retrieval of Remote Sensing Images
Zhi Zeng,Zhenhong Du,Renyi Liu 한국정보과학회 2014 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.8 No.2
To address the problem of multi-target retrieval (MTR) of remote sensing images, this study proposes a new object-level feature representation model. The model provides an enhanced application image representation that improves the efficiency of MTR. Generating the model in our scheme includes processes, such as object-oriented image segmentation, feature parameter calculation, and symbolic image database construction. The proposed model uses the spatial representation method of the extended nine-direction lower-triangular (9DLT) matrix to combine spatial relationships among objects, and organizes the image features according to MPEG-7 standards. A similarity metric method is proposed that improves the precision of similarity retrieval. Our method provides a trade-off strategy that supports flexible matching on the target features, or the spatial relationship between the query target and the image database. We implement this retrieval framework on a dataset of remote sensing images. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves competitive and high-retrieval precision.
