Role of concomitant percutaneous pie crusting and local corticosteroid injection in lateral epicondylitis: a prospective, case control study

        Amyn M. Rajani,Anmol RS Mittal,Vishal Kulkarni,Khushi Rajani,Kashish Rajani 대한견주관절학회 2023 대한견주관절의학회지 Vol.26 No.1

Background: Lateral epicondylitis is an increasingly debilitating condition in working population. Evidence for conservative treatment modalities has been inconclusive. Percutaneous pie crusting of the common extensor origin at the lateral epicondyle at the time of local corticosteroid injection (CSI) has been proposed sparsely. The objective of this study was to analyze if concomitant CSI and pie-crusting of the common extensor origin provides better outcome than CSI alone in lateral epicondylitis. Methods: This case-control study on 236 patients was conducted at a single center between January 1, 2020, and May 31, 2022. Patients were divided into two groups (n=118 each) based on their preference. Group A underwent CSI alone and group B underwent pie crusting along with CSI. The clinical and functional outcomes of all patients were evaluated at 2, 4, 6, and 12-week post-procedure using the visual analog scale (VAS) and Nirschl score. The mean time for return to daily activities was also compared. Results: Both groups showed significant improvement in post-procedure outcome at successive follow-ups on intragroup longitudinal analysis (VAS: F=558.384 vs. F=1,529.618, Nirschl: F=791.468 vs. F=1,284.951). On intergroup analysis, VAS of group B was superior to that of group A; however, it was statistically significant (P<0.05) only from the 6-week follow-up onwards. Nirschl score of group B was significantly better throughout the period of follow-up (P<0.05). Group B returned to daily activities faster than Group A (6.2±0.44 weeks vs. 7.18±0.76 weeks). Conclusions: Concomitant pie crusting with CSI is recommended for lateral epicondylitis as it provides significantly better results than CSI alone.

Amylin as a Future Obesity Treatment

Babak Dehestani,Nicholas RS Stratford,Carel W. le Roux 대한비만학회 2021 The Korean journal of obesity Vol.30 No.4

Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that contributes to detrimental health impacts. One-third of the population suffers from obesity, and it is important to consider obesity as a chronic disease requiring chronic treatment. Amylin is co-secreted with insulin from β pancreatic cells upon nutrient delivery to the small intestine as a satiety signal, acts upon sub-cortical homeostatic and hedonic brain regions, slows gastric emptying, and suppresses post-prandial glucagon responses to meals. Therefore, new pharmacological amylin analogues can be used as potential anti-obesity medications in individuals who are overweight or obese. In this narrative review, we analyse the efficacy, potency, and safety of amylin analogues. The synthetic amylin analogue pramlintide is an approved treatment for diabetes mellitus which promotes better glycaemic control and small but significant weight loss. AM833 (cagrilintide), an investigational novel long-acting acylated amylin analogue, acts as a non-selective amylin receptor. This calcitonin G protein-coupled receptor agonist can serve as an attractive novel treatment for obesity, resulting in reduction of food intake and significant weight loss in a dose-dependent manner.

Impact of CIGS, CdS and i – ZnO film thickness, tem perature on efficiency enhancement of CIGS sola

        Deepa Lakshmi.B,Rajendran RS,Jackrit Suthakorn,Branesh M. Pillai 한양대학교 청정에너지연구소 2022 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.23 No.6

In an attempt to enhance solar light photon to electron transformation proficiency of copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS)solar cells, computational exploration has been accomplished through numerical simulation. The SCAPS program was utilizedto simulate enactment of CIGS. The electrical, optical properties of CIGS such as band diagram, current density, recombination current, IPCE and current – voltage efficiency was analyzed. The electrical, physical properties, thicknesses ofindividual layers comprising CIGS, CdS and ZnO were optimized along with their operating temperature. The CIGS solarcell efficiency analysis was executed and analyzed in the AM1.5 spectrum. The depth of CIGS, CdS and ZnO layers in CIGSsolar cell determines the efficiency. The simulated optimization of CIGS properties is encouraging for enhancing the CIGSsolar cell proficiency.

Food Consumption and Utilization Efficiency in Samia ricini Donovan Reared on Ricinus communis, lin. Leaves Supplemented with Cyanobacteria

( Sujathak ),( Jaikishan Singh Rs ),( Sampath A ),( Sanjeeva Rao Bv ) 한국잠사학회 2014 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.28 No.2

Food consumption and conversion efficiency of eri silkworm Samia ricini Donovan were studied during 4th and 5th larval instars by feeding castor leaves fortified with 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm concentrations of aqueous extracts of cyanobacteria Anabaena variabilis. The nutritional indices viz., ingesta, digesta, approximate digestibility (%), reference ratio and efficiency parameters like ECI and ECD were recorded which were significantly high at 400ppm concentration treated batches of 4th in star larvae over control batches. The decline in nutritional efficiency parameters of 5th in star treated larvae might be due to higher utilization of the digested food for metabolic activities. Significant difference of ECI to cocoon % and nonsignificantdifference of ECD to cocoon% and shell were observed between the treatmentsand control. Cyanabacteria feed supplement contains antibiotic and nutritions factors whichhas reflective effect on the biological parameters in eri silkworm and therefore has greaterapplication in commercial eri silkworm rearing.

Effects of glenohumeral corticosteroid injection on stiffness following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: a prospective, multicentric, case-control study with 18-month follow-up

        Amyn M. Rajani,Urvil A Shah,Anmol RS Mittal,Sheetal Gupta,Rajesh Garg,Alisha A. Rajani,Gautam Shetty,Meenakshi Punamiya,Richa Singhal 대한견주관절학회 2023 대한견주관절의학회지 Vol.26 No.1

Background: This study aimed to analyze the efficacy of single-dose corticosteroid injection (CSI) administered at 6 weeks postoperative to treat stiffness following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). Methods: In this prospective, multicentric, case-control study, post-ARCR stiffness at 6 weeks was treated with either a single dose of intra-articular CSI (CSI group) or physical therapy with oral analgesics (non-CSI group). Pain intensity according to visual analog scale (VAS), functional outcome using the Constant Murley Shoulder Score, time to return to activities of daily living (ADLs), and retear rate were recorded at 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months, 12 months, and 18 months postoperatively in both groups. Results: A total of 149 patients (54.5%) in the CSI group and 124 patients (45.5%) in the non-CSI group were included in this study. Pain and function were significantly better in the CSI group at 9-week, 12-week, and 6-month (P<0.001) follow-up, whereas they were not significantly different when the groups were compared at 12- and 18-month follow-up. The mean duration to return to ADLs was significantly shorter (P<0.001) in the CSI group. The incidence of retears was not significantly different (P=0.36) between groups at the end of 18 months of follow-up. Conclusions: Single-dose intra-articular CSI administered at 6 weeks postoperative to treat post-ARCR stiffness significantly improved pain, function, and duration of return to ADLs without increasing the risk of retears compared to patients who did not receive intra-articular CSI.

      • HPV Infection and Cervical Abnormalities in HIV Positive Women in Different Regions of Brazil, a Middle-Income Country

Freitas, Beatriz C,Suehiro, Tamy T,Consolaro, Marcia EL,Silva, Vania RS Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.18

Human papillomavirus is a virus that is distributed worldwide, and persistent infection with high-risk genotypes (HR-HPV) is considered the most important factor for the development of squamous cell cervical carcinoma (SCC). However, by itself, it is not sufficient, and other factors may contribute to the onset and progression of lesions. For example, infection with other sexually transmitted diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may be a factor. Previous studies have shown the relationship between HPV infection and SCC development among HIV-infected women in many regions of the world, with great emphasis on low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Brazil is considered a LMIC and has great disparities across different regions. The purpose of this review was to highlight the current knowledge about HPV infection and cervical abnormalities in HIV+ women in Brazil because this country is an ideal setting to evaluate HIV impact on SCC development and serves as model of LMICs and low-resource settings.

The effect of anesthetic techniques on neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio in patients undergoing infraumbilical surgeries

        Nethra Surhonne,Chaithali Hebri,Sudheesh Kannan,Devika Rani Duggappa,Raghavendra Rao RS,Chethana G Mapari 대한마취통증의학회 2019 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.72 No.5

Background: Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a simple marker in peripheral blood and is used to assess inflammatory response and physiological stress during the peri-operative period. Anesthetic technique may influence NLR, thereby modulating the inflammatory response and surgical outcomes. The study aimed to evaluate the relationship between blood NLR and anesthetic techniques in patients undergoing infraumbilical surgeries. Methods: Institutional ethical committee approval and patient consent were obtained. A prospective randomized double- blinded study was conducted between July 2017 and November 2017, involving 80 patients classified as the American Society of Anesthesiologists grade 1 and 2, aged 18–60 years, and scheduled for elective infraumbilical surgeries. Unwilling and those with infections were excluded. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group G (general anesthesia) and Group S (spinal anesthesia) as per the standardized protocol. Differential counts of leukocytes and NLR in the peripheral blood were obtained pre-operatively on the morning of surgery and at 2 h and 24 h after surgery in both the groups. The data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. Results: The demographic parameters, basal total leukocyte count (TLC), and NLR were comparable between the groups. TLC and NLR were significantly higher in Group G as compared to that in Group S post-operatively. The post-operative rise in TLC and NLR from the basal values was significantly higher in Group G as compared to that in Group S. Conclusions: General anesthesia was associated with a greater increase in TLC and NLR when compared with spinal anesthesia.
