A Structural Case-based Account for Raising Constructions

        Feng Quan 한국중앙영어영문학회 2014 영어영문학연구 Vol.56 No.1

This paper examines Raising Constructions from a cross-linguistic perspective. There seem to be two types of patterns; in English-type languages, only the embedded subject is allowed to move to the matrix Spec TP, while in Icelandic-type languages, only the experiencer is allowed to move to the matrix Spec TP. Regarding these two patterns, I pursue the possibility that both the experiencer and the embedded subject are assigned structural Case. I further assume that the Case checking ability of the little v or the applicative head may be suppressed. Whether the Case checking ability of the little v or the applicative verb is suppressed is subject to cross-linguistic variation. In Icelandic-type languages, the Case checking ability of the little v is suppressed (Burzio, 1986), while the applicative verb retains its Case checking ability. Therefore, the Case feature on the experiencer is checked by the matrix T and the experiencer further moves to Spec TP. In English-type languages, the Case checking ability of the applicative head is percolated to the little v. Therefore, little v receives the Case checking ability from the applicative verb. Since the experiencer becomes inactive due to its Case features checked, the embedded subject is valued as nominative by the finite T and is further attracted to Spec TP.

The combined application of bleomycin with triamcinolone acetonide in port wine stains: inhibiting proliferation and recurrence of port wine stains

Quan-Feng Luo 대한악안면성형재건외과학회 2023 Maxillofacial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Vol.45 No.-

Background Port wine stains slowly grow thicker over time, nodules appear on the surface, and the color slowly deepens from pink to purple. Even after laser treatment, some port wine stains will recur and slowly grow, and the erythema appears again. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of bleomycin in combination with triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of inhibiting the proliferation and recurrence of port wine stains. Results Histopathological change: Before treatment, dense capillaries were distributed within the lesion, and blood fills the lumen. Lack of normal skin structure: After bleomycin and triamcinolone acetonide injection, the number of capillaries was significantly reduced, and fibrosis occurred in tissues. Changes in facial morphology: After treatment, the port wine stains became thinner, the asymmetry of the face was effectively improved, and the appearance have been significantly improved. After 5 years of follow-up, there were no recurrent cases. Conclusion Bleomycin and triamcinolone acetonide injection can effectively inhibit the proliferation of port wine stains and prevent port wine stains from recurring after treatment.

Cubic s-regular graphs of order 2p3

Feng, Yan-Quan,Kwak, Jin Ho,Xu, Ming-Yao Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2006 Journal of graph theory Vol.52 No.4

<P>A graph is s-regular if its automorphism group acts regularly on the set of its s-arcs. Malnič et al. (Discrete Math 274 (2004), 187–198) classified the connected cubic edge-transitive, but not vertex-transitive graphs of order 2p3 for each prime p. In this article, we determine the s-regularity of all connected cubic symmetric graphs of order 2p3 for each prime p and each s. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory</P>

      • Classifying cubic symmetric graphs of order 8p or 8p2

        Feng, Yan-Quan,Kwak, Jin Ho,Wang, Kaishun Elsevier 2005 European journal of combinatorics : Journal europ& Vol.26 No.7

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A graph is s-<I>regular</I> if its automorphism group acts regularly on the set of its s-arcs. In this paper, we classify the s-regular elementary Abelian coverings of the three-dimensional hypercube for each s≥1 whose fibre-preserving automorphism subgroups act arc-transitively. This gives a new infinite family of cubic 1-regular graphs, in which the smallest one has order 19208. As an application of the classification, all cubic symmetric graphs of order 8p or 8p2 are classified for each prime p, as a continuation of the first two authors’ work, in Y.-Q. Feng, J.H. Kwak [Cubic symmetric graphs of order a small number times a prime or a prime square (submitted for publication)] in which all cubic symmetric graphs of order 4p, 4p2, 6p or 6p2 are classified and of Cheng and Oxley’s classification of symmetric graphs of order 2p, in Y. Cheng, J. Oxley [On weakly symmetric graphs of order twice a prime, J. Combin. Theory B 42 (1987) 196–211].</P>

      • Tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs of order p4

        Feng, Yan-Quan,Kwak, Jin Ho,Xu, Ming-Yao,Zhou, Jin-Xin Elsevier 2008 European journal of combinatorics : Journal europ& Vol.29 No.3

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A graph is half-arc-transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on vertices and edges, but not on arcs. It is known that for a prime p there is no tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs of order p or p2. Xu [M.Y. Xu, Half-transitive graphs of prime-cube order, J. Algebraic Combin. 1 (1992) 275–282] classified the tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs of order p3. As a continuation, we classify in this paper the tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs of order p4. It shows that there are exactly p−1 nonisomorphic connected tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs of order p4 for each odd prime p.</P>

A Phase Inheritance-based Account on A- and A'-movement of Double Object Constructions

        Quan, Feng,Jingquan Han 한국현대언어학회 2017 언어연구 Vol.33 No.3

This paper suggests that the Phase Inheritance-based account can provide a unified explanation for both the A- and A’-movement of English DOCs. The main hypotheses adopted in this paper are: 1) Every functional head bears the generalized EPP feature, while the phasal head is equipped with both the generalized EPP and Phase EPP feature; 2) Passive v is also a phasal head; 3) The phasehood of v can be handed over to the applicative head; 4) Mixed Chains Constraint must be respected. According to the Phase inheritance-based account, the phasehood of light v is handed over to the applicative head in English DOCs, therefore only the indirect object is allowed to be passivized and only the direct object is allowed to undergo WH-movement, otherwise Mixed Chains Constraint will be violated. By assuming that the Phase EPP on the little v can be retained or handed over to the applicative head in different languages, this analysis also sheds light on the A-and A’-movement of DOCs from the cross-linguistic perspective.

Two Structural Cases of Double Object Constructions in Minimalist Syntax

        ( Feng Quan ),( Jin Hee Suh ) 한국현대언어학회 2011 언어연구 Vol.27 No.2

The Journal of Studies in Language 27.2, 307-327. Chomsky (1981, 1986), claims that in DOCs the first object, which is adjacent to the verb, is assigned structural Case; the second object, which is thematically restricted, is assigned inherent Case. Chomsky`s inherent Case assumption successfully explains that in English DOCs only the indirect object can be passivized. However, it fails to explain languages (such as Mandarin Chinese) in which only the direct object can be passivized and languages (such as Kinyarwanda) in which either the indirect object or the direct object can be passivized. This paper pursues the possibility that the two objects in DOCs are assigned structural Case. we assume that in active sentences little v and applicative V have the Case assigning ability and check the structural Case of the indirect object and the direct object respectively. In passive sentences, our assumption is that passive morpheme absorbs either the Case assigning ability of little v or the applicative V in a given language. At last, we examine how the Case features of the two objects in active and passive DOC sentences are checked off under Chomsky`s (2000) Agree operation from a cross-linguistic perspective.

A Case Study: Evaluation of Urban Flood Resilience Based on Fuzzy Mathematics and VIKOR Method in Ulsan Metropolitan City, South Korea

Quan Feng,김동현,왕원준,이준형,김경훈,김흥수 대한토목학회 2024 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.28 No.4

In this study, fuzzy mathematics and VIKOR were employed to develop a flood vulnerability assessment system for Ulsan Metropolitan City, South Korea in 2018. HEC-HMS model was used to simulate the major rivers’ runoff in Ulsan Metropolitan City, and HEC-RAS model was used to convert the 1-D runoff simulation results into 2-D results of inundation map, while the simulation results were exhibited through ArcMap. Hazards, sensitivity and adaptivity were selected as the three evaluation indicators for fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, and pressure resilience, state resilience and response resilience were utilized as the indicators for ranking and comparison of the VIKOR method for local governments (administrative districts) of Ulsan Metropolitan City. As the result, Dong-gu district, Ulju-jun County and Nam-gu district showed the best results by both the fuzzy mathematical and the VIKOR method in hazard and pressure, sensitivity and state, adaptivity and response indicator. Fuzzy mathematics and the VIKOR method provide two different ways to study the flood protection capacity of Ulsan Metropolitan City, comparing the historical statistics, VIKOR method’s evaluation results match well with the flooding statistics in Ulsan Metropolitan City.
