Fusarium wilt of cucumber caused by Fusarium oxy-sporum f. sp. cucumerinum is a serious vascular disease worldwide. Biological control of Fusarium wilt in several crops has been accomplished by introducing non-pathogenic Fusarium sup. and other biocontrol agents in soil or in infection courts. In this study, quantitative models were used to determine the biocontrol efficacy of inundatively applied antagonist formulations and the length of their effectiveness in controlling Fusarium wilt of cucumber. Quantitative model of the form [Y=L (1${-exp}^{-kx}$)] best described the relationship between disease incidence (Y, %) and inoculum density (X) of isolates F51 and F55. Isolate F51 was selected as a more virulent isolate based on the extent of its effectiveness in causing the wilt disease. The degree of disease control (Xi/X) obtained with the density of the biocontrol agent (Z), was described by the model [Xi/X=A (1${-exp}^{-cz}$)]. The zeolite-based antagonist formulation amended with chitosan (ZAC) was better at lower rates of application and peaked at around 5 g/ kg of the potting medium, whereas the peat-based antagonist formulation (PA) peaked at around 10 g/kg of the potting medium. ZAC formulation provided significantly better suppression of Fusarium wilt as described by the curvilinear relationship of the type Y= a+bX+c$X^2$, where Y represents percent disease incidence and X represents sustaining effect of the biocontrol agent.

Pure pseudobrookite Fe2TiO5 and its lithium and barium substituted varieties namely, Ba2y Fe2−x Li3xTi1−yO5 and Ba3x/2 Fe2−x Li4yTi1−yO5 (x = y = 0.05) are synthesized by solid-state reaction method. Pure and lithium and barium doped samples of pseudobrookites show the single phase orthorhombic structure. Substitution has reduced the particle (crystallite) size but enhanced the grain size. A new intense plane (122) is observed in the substituted samples indicating that Barium has entered this plane. Lithium intercalation is also observed. Dielectric studies have con-firmed the Maxwell- Wagner interfacial polarization and the space charge is seen to have almost doubled with doping. The hysteresis loops are recorded and the variation of normalised susceptibility with absolute temperature is observed. An asymmetric shift and constriction of loops is observed. Presence of barium and lithium has also brought about a long magnetic range ordering in pseudobrookites. Susceptibility measurements show that the Curie temperature in the barium-rich sample approaches room temperature and can be a potential switch material.
Gas Separation Membranes: Current Status
Puri Pushpinder S. 한국막학회 1996 멤브레인 Vol.6 No.3
Membrane-based gas separation systems are now widely accepted and employed as unit operation in industrial gas, chemical, and allied industries. Following their successful commercialization in the late seventies to recover hydrogen from ammonia purge gas streams, membrane-based systems have gained acceptance in a wide variety of applications. Numerous systems are in operation today to: recover hydrogen from other purge gas and hydrocarbon streams; adjust the H2/CO ratio in syngas; remove CO2 from natural gas; recover helium; dry gas streams; and separate air. Lower cost, ease of operation, operational flexibility and portability are a few of the reasons membrane-based systems are chosen over absorption and cryogenic-based separations in certain applications.

A tuber lectin from Arisaema jacquemontii Blume belonging to family Araceae was purified by employing a single step affinity chromatography using column of asialofetuin-linked amino activated silica beads and the bound lectin was eluted with 100 mM glycine-HCl buffer pH 2.5. The purified A. jacquemontii lectin (AJL) showed a single protein band with an apparent molecular mass of 13.4 kDa when submitted to SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis under reducing as well as non-reducing conditions. The native molecular mass of AJL determined by gel filtration on a Biogel P-200 column was 52 kDa and its carbohydrate content was estimated to be 3.40%. Thus AJL is a tetrameric glycoprotein. The purified lectin agglutinated erythrocytes from rabbit but not from human. Its activity was not inhibited by any of the mono- and disaccharides tested except N-acetyl-D-lactosamine having minimal inhibitory sugar concentration (MIC) 25 mM. Among the glycoproteins tested only asialofetuin was found to be inhibitory (MIC $125\;{\mu}g/mL$). A single band was obtained in native PAGE at pH 4.5 while PAGE at pH 8.3 showed two bands. Isoelectric focusing of AJL gave multiple bands in the pI range of 4.6-5.5. When incorporated in artificial diet AJL significantly affected the development of Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett) larvae indicating the possibility of using this lectin in a biotechnological strategy for insect management of cucurbits. Larvae fed on artificial diet containing sub-lethal dose of AJL showed a significant decrease in acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase activity while esterase activity markedly increased as compared to larvae fed on diet without lectin. Out of various human cancer cell lines employed in sulphorhodamine B (SRB) assay, this lectin was found to have appreciable inhibitory effect on the in vitro proliferation of HCT-15, HOP-62, SW-620, HT-29, IMR-32, SKOV-3, Colo-205, PC-3, HEP-2 and A-549 cancer cell lines by 82, 77, 73, 70, 41, 41, 37, 29, 21 and 21% respectively.
Delayed Spontaneous Thrombosis of Neglected Direct Carotid-Cavernous Fistula: A Case Report
Tiwari Sarbesh,Garg Pawan Kumar,Khera Pushpinder Singh,K.B Santosh Babu,Yadav Taruna,Sureka Binit 대한신경중재치료의학회 2020 Neurointervention Vol.15 No.2
Direct carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) refers to direct communication between the cavernous portion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and the cavernous sinus due to rent in the ICA, most commonly secondary to trauma. These are generally high-flow fistula and rarely resolve spontaneously. We report a case of a young male who developed features of direct CCF after trauma, was denied any treatment for 4 years, and then presented with spontaneous thrombosis of the fistula and a residual large pseudoaneurysm of the cavernous segment of the right ICA, which was subsequently managed with parent vessel occlusion.
Cascade of Complications Following Carotid Body Tumor Excision
Pawan K Garg,Sarbesh Tiwari,Tushar S Ghosh,Surendra Patel,Ankur Sharma,Pushpinder S Khera 대한신경중재치료의학회 2021 Neurointervention Vol.16 No.3
Carotid body tumor excision can lead to various complications including vascular injury and pseudoaneurysm formation. Here we describe a case of carotid body tumor excision followed by series of complications including pseudoaneurysm formation, failure of primary surgical repair, carotid stump syndrome following parent artery occlusion, and persistent hypotension.
