Fitzgerald's Moral Sense in The Great Gatsby

This paper aims to identify the nature of moral sense The Great Gatsby. The novel has often been accepted as the fall or decline of the American Dream in the 1920s or love affair between Gatsby and Daisy. Though they have led to some stimulating criticism, it seems to be misleading. They reduced this novel to the status of simplified version. Therefore, my paper shows that it also offers a strong moral sense against material society of 1920s. Nick attempts to take moral sense opposed to the dominant value of materialism. Although the ending of this novel is ambiguous, 1 read Nick's leaving the East for The West as a moral gesture on his part. His return to the West shows us that Fitzgerald criticized the corrupted materialism embodied in Tom Buchanan. In Conclusion, 1 claim that though Nick does not Propose an alternative to materialistic society, he shows a strong moral sense against it. F.Scott Fizgerald (1896~1940)은 일반적으로 T.S Eliot 의 영향을 가장 많이 받은 미국작가로 알려져 왔다. 또한 엘리옷의 『황무지』(The Waste Land)와 피츠제럴드의 『위대한 게츠비』는 각각 정신적 황무지와 도덕적 황무지를 반영한다는 점에서 1920년대의 시대적 상황을 가장 잘 반영하고 있다. 이 논문은 1920년대 미국의 대표적 모더니스트이자<방황하는 세대>(Lost Generation)의 대표작 『위대한 게츠비』를 분석한 것이다. 흔히 이작품은<미국적 꿈의 붕괴>,<게츠비와 데이지 그리고 탐사이의 삼각관계> 그리고 <게츠비의 낭만적 꿈의 추구>와 같은 시각에서 읽혀져 왔다. 그러나 팔자는 본 논문에서 작가의 도덕의식에 초점을 두고 그 것이 주는 현대적 의미를 도출하고자 했다. 연구방법론으로 게츠비(Gatsby)가 아니라 ?(Nick)을 주인공으로 보고 그의 동부로의 여행과 사회인식에 초점을 두었다. 그래서 주인공 ?을 통한 동바사회의 도덕적 부패상을 규명했다. 본 논문에서 필자는 ?이 당대의 지배적 물질주의에 항거해서 도덕의식을 보여주고 있음을 밝혔다. ?을 작자 피츠제럴드의 퍼스나(persona)로 볼 때 ?이 소설 끝에서 조던 베이커(Jordan Baker)와 결별하고 동부에 환멸을 느끼면서 서부로 귀향하는 것은 동부의 물질적 인 타락과 부패에 대한 환멸이며 작가 피츠제럴드의 강력한 도덕의식이 반영되었음을 보여준다.

We present a case of olfactory schwannoma in a 16-year-old boy with headache and diplopia. Brain computed tomography[CT] scan and magnetic resonance[MR] imaging showed a huge mass in the subfrontal area resembling an olfactory groove meningioma. We performed a bifrontal craniotomy and found out the mass was attached to cribriform plate but was not related to the olfactory tract or bulb. The histopathological diagnosis of schwannoma was confirmed by immunohistochemical staining for S-100, vimentin and others. We describe the clinical manifestations, radiological characteristics, histological aspects, and differential diagnosis of this tumor with literature review.

The purpose of this study is to understand the color preference of college students and to analyze the characteristic of colors in private space of houses. The methods used are field surveys. The most preferred color was blue, orange, yellow, green, purple, red, and navy in order. The least preferred color was orange, purple, blue, green, red, yellow, blue in order. The ceiling and the wall used yellowish colors and the floor used ivory, yellowish or oreangish colors. As the result the college students preferred the whitish color room the most when they survey with the 9 different interior images which contained the chromatic and achromatic color ranges. The finding is that the college students liked the variety of colors as a point color only in a certain area yet they preferred the bright and clean achromatic color images as a most interior space.

Relationship marketing, which focuses on the relationship between the customers, is considered important in the field of service marketing. This research explores the impact of customers` perceived expertise of service provider and customer`s sociability, and how these factors are related to the intention to continuously uses IT services. Relationship quality is set as a mediating variable. Relationship quality is measured by trust and commitment. Also, the relationship between trust and commitment is hypothesized and tested. Results of the analysis of survey data shows that, expertise and sociability factors have positive effect on relationship quality. Also, two factors of relationship quality - trust and commitment - have positive effects on the intention to use. In addition, trust is positively related to commitment. In conclusion, service provider`s expertise and customers` sociability work partially as client lock-in.

The engine mount of a car subjected to a pre-load related to the weight of the engine, and acts to insulate the vibration coming from the engine by moving on large or small displacement depending on the driving condition of the car. The vibration insulation of the engine mount is an effect obtained by dissipating the mechanical energy into heat by the viscosity characteristic of the rubber and the microscopic behavior of the additive carbon black. Therefore, dynamic stiffness from the intrinsic properties of rubber filled with carbon black at the design stage is an important design consideration. In this paper, we introduced a hyper-elastic, visco-elastic and elasto-plastic model to predict the dynamic characteristics of rubber, and developed a fitting program to determine the material model parameters using MATLAB. The dynamic characteristics analysis of the rubber insulator of the ACTIVE MOUNT was carried out by using MSC.MARC nonlinear structural analysis software, which provides the dynamic characteristics material model. The analysis results were compared with the dynamic characteristics test results of the rubber insulator, which is one of the active mount components, and the analysis results were confirmed to be valid.

In Cambodia, people use public transport bus for their courier delivery service rather than a post office since the bus companies have a better infrastructure and delivery fee. The bus companies have their own bus routes and stops, but they do not have a public stop to share with each other. Therefore, customers for courier delivery should know the bus company’s routes to use as well as they should visit the bus company. In this paper, an idea is proposed to improve the current courier delivery service in Cambodia. If some of the bus companies are selected as logistics hubs for courier delivery by using their existing infrastructure and operated properly, the customers as well as the bus companies will have considerable convenience and benefits. A p-median model is formulated to locate the logistics hubs in the two major cities, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, as well as a sensitivity analysis is conducted to study how the proposed model and its solution respond to the variation for the p value which is the number of the logistics hubs.

Samsung Electronics is a subsidiary of the Samsung Group. The company was established in 1969 with an investment of 330 million won (about 1 million US dollar). At that time, few expected the company to become the flagship of the Samsung Group. However, since 2005, the company started to make tremendous achievements. Samsung Electronics started to emerge as a global company by developing new technologies and innovative products as well as by improving brand power. As a result, the company has become the best selling electronics company in the world particularly since 2005. Thus, it may be worth to explore how the company expanded its comprehensive capability in terms of marketing, research and development (R&D), technological development, product development, design and etc. within four decades. The paper discusses and analyses the company strategies of how to become a global leader from a national champion in the EU market.
