      • Wireless Measurement of Carbon Monoxide Concentration

        The paper deals with measurement of concentration of highly toxic carbon monoxide within the space of waste rock storage. This purpose gave origin to creation of units with integrated sensors of carbon monoxide that transmit measured concentration by means of wireless IQRF technology. The need of decreased power consumption implicated choice of electrochemical CO sensor connected to a special wireless technology named IQRF, working at 868 MHz frequency. Concentration is measured at two locations within waste rock dump. The paper analyzes consumption of energy spent on this type of measurement and it evaluates assumed endurance for battery-operated mode. Concentration of CO is sent to IQRF-AO converter that transfer the measured value to voltage level by means of double-channel DAC converter. This voltage is then brought to the inputs of telemetry unit that transmits the values of CO and other measured signals to a supervisor dispatching center.

        The paper deals with analysis of case study concerning dynamic optimization problem using Dynopt Toolbox. Particularly it focuses on problem with free time and free end point represented by example of guided missile control in two alternatives. The paper introduces Dynopt as powerful tool for most type of dynamic optimization problem, describing the way how the problem is formulated to be ready for Dynopt syntax.

      • Image Signal Processing, Analysis and Detection for Robotic System

        This article describes the algorithm for searching the human face by the camera. This device is placed in a robotic head. This head should be used for the submission of information when entering into a building such as e.g. a museum. It is therefore necessary for the head to react to the stimuli. If a person appears in front of the head, the head must look at the person and react to the person. The received image is modified and converted to the matrix in which colors occurring on the human face are searched for. This way the adjusted matrix is put through to the search algorithm that is similar to the scanner. This determines whether or not the face is in the image and if it finds face’s edges. If the face is discovered, it is calculated its center. The axis are then sent across the bus to the movable part of head.

        The paper deals with design and implementation of LQR controller for physical model of inverted pendulum. It presents derivation of the full nonlinear mathematical model, its linearization leading to linear state-space description. The mathematical model is then used for design of LQR controller using Matlab. The control scheme is implemented in PAC (programmable automation controller) WinPAC-8000 with the use of REX Control System.

      • Using Matlab for Thermal Processes Modeling and Prediction at Mining Dumps

        The paper deals with the modeling and prediction of thermal processes occurring in the old mining dumps in the Ostrava region. In this region there are many places that arose as a result of long-term mining industry in the past time. One of the most affected mine dumps is the Hedvika mine dump. Hedvika was founded around 1910 and registered in the end of the 50’s, and since this time mining dump has been burning and some effort has been done in putting the fire out. Nowadays, Hedvika is still very thermally active. In this paper the temperature distribution throughout the mining dump Hedvika area by used the Matlab interpolation functions is described.

      • Methods of Mineral Engineering in a Fight Against Varrosa Infestation

        The purpose of previous study centered around introducing minerals into bee colonies was to observe the Varrosa destructor mites-repelling effect of minerals (“Pszczelarstwo” 6/2016). The results of research published so far confirmed the purpose of using minerals in the fight against Varrosa infestation. This publication presents partial results of the next stage of research. Using foundation enriched with studied minerals in right proportions leads to diminishing the number of Varroa destructor parasites in bee colonies. It may also contribute to increase in the amount of honey obtained from bees. Foundations with minerals were in most cases correctly filled with larvae, and the new generation of bees didn’t show any morphometric or physical-motor aberrations. The effect of minerals in the foundation weakens with time, which requires adequate reaction from the beekeeper. The study showed no negative effect of mineral suspensions added directly to royal jelly of larvae in the swarm cells and worker cells on the development of bees. Additional research was carried out in August and September and led to surprising observations, which are still too early to report. It obliges us to carry out further, extended subject research on a large number of bee colonies in 2017.

      • 기아 Stress가 뇌신경계 Nitric Oxide Synthase 발현에 미치는 효과

        뇌에서 생성되는 nitric oxide (NO) 신경전달물질은 기아(starvation) 및 식욕 조절기전에 중요하게 작용하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 흰쥐 동물모델에서 2, 4, 그리고 6일간 물만 섭취한 (W실험군)하거나 또는 전음식물의 섭취를 중단 (X실험군)하여 기아 Stress 조건을 유도한 후 뇌기관에서 신경계 NO synthase (nNOS)의 유전자발현을 비교하였다. 대뇌 (cerebrum), 소뇌(cerebellum) 그리고 해마(hippocampus)부위에서 검색된 nNOS mRNA 발현은 모든 실험기간, 실험군 그리고 부위에 따라 유의한 차이가 없었으나 단백질발현에서는 기아 기간, 실험군 및 부위에 따라 유의한 차이를 보였다. 이와 같은 결과는 다양한 뇌조직 부위에서 기아 및 식욕 조절반응에 nNOS의 활성에 따른 NO의 기능이 중요하게 작용할 수 있음을 보여주는 것이다.

      • 약물유도성 비만의 가능한 분자적 기전

        비만을 유발할 수 있는 음식 및 약물의 부작용을 염증반응으로 설명하기 위하여 지방세포(3T3-L1)와 대식세포(RAW 264.7)를 이용하여 그 가능한 분자적 기전을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서는 세포를 재료로 하는 실험으로 음식보다는 표준화된 실험조건을 위하여 비만유발이 대표적 부작용으로 알려진 항정신병약물 olanzapine (OLZ)을 재료로 그 염증반응 결과를 iNOS 및 COX-II의 유전자 발현, 그리고 nitric oxide (NO) 및 prostaglandin (PGE2) 생성정도로 평가하였다. 대식세포와 지방세포에 직접 약물을 처리하였을 때 NO의 대사체인 nitrite농도는 증가하지 않았으나, 약물을 처리한 지방세포의 conditioned media systems을 이용했을 때는 NO 및 PGE2의 생성과 iNOS와 COX-II의 발현 정도가 유의하게 증가하였다. 그러므로 이 결과는 약물부작용으로 유발되는 비만은 염증반응의 하나로 설명할 수 있다. Side effects of some foods and drugs induced the abnormal lipid metabolism have been associated with obesity, which are related with inflammatory reactions. Especially, nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin-E2 (PGE2) overproduced in the reactions may be mediated to the obesity. Thus, we hypothesized that drug-induced adverse effects may be related with a low-grade systemic inflammatory reactions. In the present study, we have carried out the experiments that inflammatory mediators such as NO and PGE2can be induced by interactions between adipocyte (3T3-L1) and macrophage (RAW 264.7) after treatment of drug. There was no direct effect of drug on the NO and PGE2 production in both cell types, RAW 264.7 and 3T3-L1. However, the production of NO metabolite and PGE2 increased significantly in RAW 264.7 cells, which were activated with conditioned media from drug-pretreated 3T3-L1 cell. Furthermore, iNOS and COX-II mRNA levels significantly increased in RAW 264.7 cells at early time. Therefore, these results suggest that NO and PGE2 overproduced by drugs can be correlated with the mechanism of obesity.

      • Positive Correlation between Suppressed Brug Metabolizing Enzymes and Increased iNOS Expression in Mouse Liver after Schistosoma japonicum Infection

        Activities of two major hepatic drug metabolizing enzymes, cytochrome P450(CYP) and flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO) were examined in mice after a moderate infections of S. japonicum. Liver microsomal CYP activities determined by testosterone hydroxylation and caffeine oxidation and FMO activities analyzed by ranitidine N-oxidation were significantly decreased by 6 weeks but recovered in 9 weeks with significant difference between male and female. Conversely. the hepatic iNOS mRNA contents increased maximally at 6-7 weeks but decreased toward normal undetectable level by 9 weeks. Immunohistochemical detection of iNOS expression sites showed initial moderate staining at Kupffer cells, intense staining of granuloma cells forming a halo surrounding the deposited eggs (6-7 weeks) and dark focal staining only in the core of dying parasite eggs (9 weeks). Results suggested that the NO produced by iNOS and the super-oxide anion (02-) produced by the granulomatous cells may generate the toxic peroxynitrite (ONOO-). This, in turn, may mediate the suppression of the drug metabolism by inhibiting the CYP and FMO activities in hepatocytes.
