Spark plasma sintering of UO2 fuel composite with Gd2O3 integral fuel burnable absorber

The paper studies spark plasma sintering (SPS) of industrially used UO2-based fuel containing integral fuel burnable absorber (IFBA) of neutrons Gd2O3. Densification dynamics of pristine UO2 powder and the one added with 2 and 8 wt% of Gd2O3 under ultrasonication in liquid has been studied under SPS conditions at 1050, 1250, and 1450 C. Effect of sintering temperature on phase composition as well as on O/U stoichiometry has been investigated for UO2 SPS ceramics. Sintering of uranium dioxide added with Gd2O3 yields solid solution (U,Gd)O2, which is isostructural to UO2. SEM with EDX and metallography were implemented to analyze the microstructure of the obtained UO2 ceramics and composite UO2- Gd2O3 one, particularly, open porosity, defects, and Gd2O3 distribution were studied. Microhardness, compressive strength and density were shown to reduce after addition of Gd2O3. Obtained results prove the hypothesis on formation of stable pores in the system of UO2-Gd2O3 due to Kirkendall effect that reduces sintering efficiency. The paper expands fundamental knowledge on pros and cons of fuel fabrication with IFBA using SPS technology.

o-Phenylenediamine (o-PD) was electropolymerized on glassy carbon electrodes under a potential cycling condition. The resulting polymer films mediated electrons for the reduction of molecular oxygen at pH=1.0. It was found from the RDE, RRDE, and cyclic voltammetry experiments that the modified electrodes reduce oxygen to hydrogen peroxide at about 300 mV lower potential than the bare glassy carbon electrode. The polymer film consisted of more than two components. Among those, only one component was active in oxygen reduction, which was formed mainly in the earlier stage of the electropolymerization. 2,3-Diaminophenazine, a cyclic dimer of o-PD, was also active in the oxygen reduction reaction, from which it was suggested that the active polymeric component has a structural unit similar to the cyclic dimer. Finally, the electropolymerization mechanism for the formation of the active and inactive components has been proposed.

본 연구에서는 시각자극에 의하여 안구 운동 시 뇌의 학습, 인지, 집중력을 활성화시키기 위하여 무한대 회로(∞)를 이용하여 연구를 수행하였다. 뇌파 유도를 하기 위한 무한대 회로(∞)는 LED 모양을 하고 있으며 이것을 실행시키기 위하여 LabView 프로그램을 사용하였다. 시각자극을 제시하기 위하여 LED의 수를 각각 26, 51, 101개로 구분하였고 점멸 시간은 50, 150, 250㎳로 하였다. 시각 자극 제시 조건의 변화에 의하여 유도되는 뇌파를 Fz, Cz, Pz, Fpl, O1, O2 부위에서 측정한 결과 LED의 수가 적고 점멸 시간이 길어질수록 β파의 비율이 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 이 결과는 LED의 점멸 움직임의 불연속적인 요인에 의하여 β파의 비율이 증가했을 것이라 생각한다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 결론을 역이용하여 원하는 뇌파를 유도할 수 있는 시각 제시 방법이 완성되어 진다면, 이는 뇌기능 장애 환자의 재활이나 학습 장애의 아동에게 있어 효과적인 방법이 될 것이다.

In vitro and in vivo antibacterial activities of DWQ-013(1-cyclopropyl-6,8-difluoro-7-(3-methylthiomethylpyrrolidinyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid), a new fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent, were compared with those of ciprofloxacin, sparfloxacin and ofloxacin against aerobic and anaerobic standard strains and clinical isolates. DWQ-013 had a broad spectrum and potent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The antibacterial activity of DWQ-013 against Staphylococcus aureus was equal to that of sparfloxacin(SPFX) and superior to those of ciprofloxacin(CPFX). The antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria was slightly lower than those of ciprofloxacin and sparfloxacin. MIC of DWQ-013 against Pseudomonas aeruginosa(0.781- 1.563mcg/ml) was usually equal to that of sparfloxacin(O.781mcg/ml) and was inferior to that of ciprofloxacin(O.098mcg/ml). The number of viable cells was decreased rapidly after addition of DWQ-013 at concentration of 1-2 folds of MIC.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinematic and kinetic differences between standard 3/4 heel and no-heel shoes during the golf swing. Five proficient golfers (3 to 10 handicap) were used as subjects. They stood with each foot on a force platform and swung the same 7 iron. 3D kinematic data were recorded for the lower and upper extremities, club, and ball. The results were as follows: 1.The no-heel condition had greater vertical and antero-posterior forces at the feet at impact 2.Subjects generated greater torque about the vertical axis under the no-heel condition. 3.The width of the swing from top to impact was greater in the no-heel condition. 4.There were no differences in the velocity of the club head, direction of ball flight, and lower extremity joint angles between the two conditions. This study concluded that no-heel golf shoes may provide a more powerful hitting platform. However, it appears that meaningful benefit in terms of ball flight and velocity would have to be explored in a longer-term training study.

This study investigated the experience and practice of elementary school students on nutrition education. The data were collected from 217 male and female students attending 5-6th grade elementary schools in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do from March to June 2007, interviewing face to face by a nutrition teacher and 3 interns of a nutrition teacher. The results were as follows: 86.5% of the subjects learned about ‘Table etiquette’, ‘Reasons for eating fruits and vegetables’ (78.7%), ‘Food waste and environment’ (72.3%), ‘Healthy snacks’ (55.7%), ‘Food sanitation’ (52.3%), ‘Food culture of foreign countries’ (48.1%). Nutrition education experience was significantly different by gender. A total of 43.5% boys responded that they never learned about ‘basic food preperation’ (p < 0.01). They had learned ‘Nutrients for body’ and ‘Food waste and environment’ in school, ‘Healthy weight loss’, ‘Food culture of foreign countries’, ‘Food circulation’ on television, Most content (‘Table etiquette’, ‘Simple cooking’, ‘Food sanitati n’, ‘Eating behaviors for health’, ‘Reasons for eating fruits and vegetables’, ‘Healthy snacks’) was learned from parents. The practice after nutrition education was higher in ‘Table etiquette’ (2.14), ‘Eating fruits and vegetables’ (2.07) than others compared with education experience. The most reason of non-practice on nutrition information was ‘Troublesome’. In ‘Nutrients for body’, a boy answered ‘Difficult for practice’ 20.0%, a girl answered ‘Difficult to understand’ 32.6%, showing a significant difference between the gender groups (p < 0.001). They remembered the ‘Nutrients for body’ (49.6%), ‘Food sanitation’ (44.5%) because of ‘important content’,‘Basic food preparation’ (40.6%), ‘Food culture of foreign countries’ (36.3%) because of ‘interesting content’, ‘Healthy weight loss’ (52.0%), ‘Eating behavior for health’ (44.5%) and ‘Healthy snacks’ (33.7%) because of ‘need for my health’.
