Development of the Selection Algorithm for the Diagnostic Unit in CLINAID

의료 시스템 CLINAID의 Diagnostic Unit은 사용자가 제공한 환자에 대한 데이터에 의해 최종 진단을 추론한다. 하지만 일반적으로 사용자가 제공한 데이터는 정확한 진단을 하기에는 부족하기 때문에 시스템 자체적으로 환자에 대한 더 많은 정보를 추론해야만 한다. 이를 위해 이 논문에서는 fuzzy relational method에 적용할 수 있으며 환자에 대한 정확한 정보를 추론할 수 있는 가장 적합한 테스트를 선택하여 사용자에게 전달하는 선택 알고리즘의 개발 과정과 이 알고리즘을 적용한 보강된 Diagnostic Unit의 테스트 결과를 보고한다. 개발된 선택 알고리즘은 CLINAID의 다른 unit과 의료 분야가 아닌 곳에도 적용될 수 있는 일반성을 또한 갖추고 있다.
A case of thanatophoric dysplasia type I with an R248C mutation in the $FGFR3$ gene

Thanatophoric dysplasia (TD) is a short-limb neonatal dwarfism syndrome that is usually lethal in the perinatal period. It is characterized by shortening of the limbs, severely small thorax, large head with a prominent forehead, macrocephaly, curved femur, and flattened vertebral bodies. These malformations result from the mutation in fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR-3) gene which is located on the short arm of chromosome 4. A definite diagnosis should be established by molecular genetic analysis to find out the abnormal mutations in the $FGFR3$ gene. We confirmed by detection of a R248C mutation in the $FGFR3$ gene in DNA analysis.
A Paddle-Wheel Ship Project in Late Joseon Korea― Focusing on Tasan’s Ideas

This article examines a paddle-wheel ship project imagined by epistolary exchange of two people at the end of the Joseon dynasty. The two protagonists are Jeong Yak-yong, alias Tasan(1762~1836), a Confucian scholar of encyclopedic knowledge with a particular interest here in civil engineering, and I Min-su(19th century), Naval commander and descendant of the Admiral I Sun-sin(1545~1598). The aim of the paddle-wheel ship project was to improve the functioning of the boats of the time as well as the daily life of the people. The material for this article is three kinds of texts written by three people. The first text is a short report by I Gyu-gyeong(1788~1856), which gives us precious information on the first model of a wheeled boat by I Min-su. The second texts are Tasan’s three responses to I Min-su in which Tasan developed several of his ideas. The third text is the proposal of I Min-su sent to his government in which the influence of Tasan is evident. The aim of this article is to understand Tasan’s technical ideas and to deduce his social and political motivations. For the understanding of his technical ideas, several types of paddle-wheel ships are presented by architect’s drawings.
IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE MAY THAT RETURNED

The special exhibition May, when the day comes again, launched at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement (also known as the Gwangju Uprising), demonstrates the process of “historicizing” a 40-year-old event. Exhibits included the military uniforms, riot sticks, and ammunition of martial law troops; government records; police logs; reporters’ notebooks; flyers and leaflets, such as Tusa Heobo, an alternative newsletter produced by citizens; photographs and videos; diaries; hamjibak, nickel silver bowls used for serving rice balls to protesters; and hospital medicine cabinets. May, when the day comes again did justice to the particularities of the exhibits and events reproduced. Although there were no central figures in this exhibition, main characters do appear. Individuals are portrayed as protagonists of the May 18 Democratization Movement. A wealth of individual material, such as diaries and letters, aluminum bowls, doctor’s gowns, and various records kept by citizens bring another genre of history to the fore. These exhibits demonstrate that a multitude of individuals from all walks of life joined the May 18 Democratization Movement. Since the significance of this exhibition is its “discovery of individuals,” more material must be found and exhibited in the future, thus giving greater meaning to the May 18 Democratization Movement and contributing to the continuous development of human rights and democracy in Korean society.

인공지능의 여러 기술을 이용한 컴퓨터 시스템의 구축이 각 분야로 확산되면서 전문가의 지식을 기반으로 중요한 결정을 내리거나 각 분야의 상황에 적절한 분석 결과를 요하는 지식 기반 시스템 혹은 전문가 시스템의 구축이 활발해 지고 있는 추세이다. 이에 부응하여 인공지능의 한 분야인 지식 공학 분야에서도 전문가의 지식을 추출하여 이를 컴퓨터 시스템에 적절하게 표현할 수 있는 방법과 이를 바탕으로 한 시스템 구축에 많은 연구를 진행하고 있지만 지식 획득 병목 현상이라 불리는 전문가의 지식 추출의 문제점을 해결하지 못하여 지식 기반 시스템의 지속적이고 광범위한 발전에 가장 큰 장애가 되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 지식 기반 시스템 구축에서 가장 중요한 부분이면서도 지식 공학 분야에서 연구가 미진했던 지식 추출에 관한 연구 결과를 이 논문에서 보고한다.
Additional User Authentication on Group Communication

Group communications are becoming popular in Internet applications such as videoconferences, on-line chatting programs, games, and gambling. However, the conventional group key agreement protocols are focused on minimizing the computational overhead by concentrating on generating the common group key efficiently. As a result, the common group key is generated efficiently but a failure in authentication allows adversaries to obtain valuable information during the group communication. This paper proposes a Media Access Control (MAC)-based authentication in the group key agreement in order to secure the user authentication process in group communications. Without a preliminary agreement, participants in a group communication cannot trust each other in the beginning of the group setup. Therefore, the group controller, who is randomly selected from the group members, needs a security deposit from all members in case an illegitimate user tries to join the group. The user MAC address proposed in this paper can act as a security deposit to provide a secure communication channel while preventing the MAC spoofing problem.
