Inhibition of advanced glycation end products by Punica granatum Linn. leaves and its antioxidant activity

Snehal Nitin Mestry,Nitin Bhanudas Gawali,Malvika Sunil Gursahani,Sarayu Arvind Pai,Jayesh Bachu Dhodi,Archana Ramesh Juvekar 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2018 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.18 No.2

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are the consequent products by virtue of non-enzymatic reaction of reducing sugars with amino groups present either in lipids, nucleic acids or proteins. Lately AGEs have been embroiled in the inception of diabetes induced complications. In Ayurveda, Punica granatum is contemplated as “a pharmacy unto itself”. Punica granatum leaves have been stated to have anti-diabetic activity. The purpose of the existing study was to determine the anti-glycation potential of methanolic extract of Punica granatum leaves (MPGL) and investigate the fundamental mechanisms in discouraging the glycation process. Antioxidant activity of MPGL was estimated by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS (3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging assays. Both MPGL and aminoguanidine were evaluated against the formation of AGEs. Antiglycation activity was evaluated by determining the fluorescence intensity of AGEs and formation of fructosamine. Protein oxidation in the glycation process was determined by evaluating the protein carbonyl content and thiol group. MPGL demonstrated IC50 value of 15.602 ± 0.296 and 724.323 ± 16.451 µg/ml for the DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays respectively. Current study revealed that MPGL had cogent effects on the in vitro formation of AGEs. MPGL decreased fructosamine level and significantly counteracted the oxidative damage of protein by curbing protein carbonyl content and impeding the loss of thiol group. The anti-glycation activity was farther cogent than the glycation inhibitory activity attained using the standard drug, aminoguanidine. Thereupon, MPGL presents to be more encouraging to be emerged as an competent AGE inhibitor.

A Comparative study of the Image Registration Process on the Multimodal Medical Images

        Nitin Arora,Mamta Martolia,Alaknanda Ashok 사단법인 미래융합기술연구학회 2017 아시아태평양융합연구교류논문지 Vol.3 No.1

Registration of image is the process of overlaying one or more image to a reference image of the same image taken at different time, from different view point or taken from different sensor device. The Difference in between images is limelight due to different imaging condition which contains yielding in maximum similarity between the input and the reference images. In this paper, we perform a comparative study of the image registration process on the multimodal medical images by using different genetic algorithm. We use simple genetic algorithm, sharing genetic algorithm and GA combined with hill climbing algorithm using two selection criteria as roulette-wheel selection and tournament selection. Results shows that Hill climbing algorithm is a local search algorithm and its execution is fast.

Soybean Supplementation Helps Reverse Age- and Scopolamine-Induced Memory Deficits in Mice

Nitin Bansal,Milind Parle 한국식품영양과학회 2010 Journal of medicinal food Vol.13 No.6

Phytoestrogens are nonsteroidal plant compounds that are able to exert estrogenic effects. Soybean is a rich source of phytoestrogens, especially isoflavones. Soy isoflavones are utilized for estrogen replacement therapy. Estrogen is reported to influence several areas of brain that are involved in cognition and behavior. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to examine whether dietary supplementation with soybean improves the cognitive function of mice. Soybean was administered in three different concentrations (2%, 5% and 10% [wt=wt]) in the normal diet to young and mature mice for 60successive days. The passive avoidance paradigm and the elevated plus maze served as the exteroceptive behavioral models, whereas scopolamine (1.4 mg=kg, i.p.) served as the interoceptive behavioral model. The brain acetylcholinesterase activity (AChE) activity, brain thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), reduced glutathione (GSH), and total blood cholesterol levels were also measured in the present study. The administration of soybean for 60 consecutive days protected (P<.05) the animals from developing memory impairment. Soybean administration also resulted in diminished brain AChE activity, decrease in brain TBARS, and increase in GSH levels, thereby indicating facilitated cholinergic transmission, reduced free radical generation, and enhanced scavenging of free radicals. Thus, soybean appears to be a useful remedy for improving memory and for the management of cognitive deficits owing to its pro-estrogenic, antioxidant, procholinergic, and=or neuroprotective properties.

      • Mitigating Blackhole and Grayhole Attack in MANET using Enhanced AODV with TLTB Mechanism

Nitin Khanna,Priyanka Sharma 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.9 No.8

MANET is multi-hop network which is a decentralized and infrastructure-less network that includes collection of mobile nodes that are self configurable and co-operates with each other for transmission of data. It has dynamic nature in terms of topology. Due to this dynamic nature of topology and no fixed infrastructure in MANET, these nodes have to be dependent on each other for transmission of data and thus are prone to packet drop attacks like Blackhole, grayhole attack. These attacks hinder the smooth transmission of data between nodes and hampers effective communication. In this paper, a new mechanism Traffic Light Trust Based (TLTB) is proposed to detect both Blackhole attacks and Grayhole attacks. This mechanism works after modification in the standard AODV routing protocol and Watchdog mechanism. This mechanism uses color scheme to define trust level of a node or any path. Just like traffic light it includes three colors to depict the level of trust. AODV routing protocol packets are modified to include new fields for application of proposed trust mechanism. These Solutions are compared with Light-weight Trust Based (LTB) and EDRI mechanism for Normalized Control load, Packet Delivery Ratio, accuracy in Blackhole and Grayhole detection and reliability of paths.

Improvement in Transformer Diagnosis by DGA using Fuzzy Logic

        Nitin K. Dhote,J. B. Helonde 대한전기학회 2014 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.9 No.2

Power transformer is one of the most important equipments in electrical power system. The detection of certain gases generated in transformer is the first indication of a malfunction that may lead to failure if not detected. Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) of transformer oil has been one of the most reliable techniques to detect the incipient faults. Many conventional DGA methods have been developed to interpret DGA results obtained from gas chromatography. Although these methods are widely used in the world, they sometimes fail to diagnose, especially when DGA results falls outside conventional method codes or when more than one fault exist in transformer. To overcome these limitations, fuzzy inference system (FIS) is proposed. 250 different cases are used to test the accuracy of various DGA methods in interpreting the transformer condition.

ADV-LEACH2 Energy-Efficient Clustering Protocols for Three-Tier Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks

Nitin Kumar,Pawan Kumar Verma,Vinod Kumar 대한전자공학회 2022 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.11 No.1

This paper presents energy-efficient clustering protocols for three-tier heterogeneous wireless sensor networks (WSNs) along with their applications to the systems. The performance of a new dynamic, modified, probability-based approach to finding the most energy-efficient cluster head nodes is intended to extend network lifetime. Mathematical modeling and simulation results from using MATLAB-2017b provide a comparative analysis of several heterogeneous and homogeneous WSN variants in terms of energy consumption, active versus dead nodes, and network lifetime based on first node dead (FND) and last node dead (LND). ADV-LEACH2 in a three-tier heterogeneous network performs better than homogeneous and two-tier heterogeneous networks owing to super nodes with higher energy levels.

Pharmacognostical Evaluation of Trachyspermum roxburghianum (DC) Craib Fruits

        Nitin Verma,R. L. Khosa 한국생약학회 2011 Natural Product Sciences Vol.17 No.1

Sophisticated modern research tools for evaluation of medicinal plants are available but microscopic methods are one of the simplest and cheapest methods to establish the identity of the source materials. Pharmacognostical investigation of the dried, powdered and anatomical sections of the fruits of Trachyspermum roxburghianum (DC) Craib was carried out to determine its macro and microscopical characteristics along with its physical constants. Externally, the fruits, yellowish or greenish brown in colour are elongated, elliptical, slightly curved, prominently ridged and longitudinal. As seen in transectional views of the fruits from Trachyspermum roxburghianum, the mericarp has concave sides called commissural surfaces and a convex outer side called the dorsal surface. The mericarp has three primary ridges alternating with two secondary ridges on the dorsal side. On the commissural side, there are two primary ridges which are lateral in position and two secondary ridges in the commissural side. The seed is attached to the pericarp by a short stalk called a raphe. Circular, four- lobed calcium oxalate crystals are fairly abundant in the endosperm. Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of phenolic compounds, triterpenoids, proteins and sugars. The pharmacognostical profile of the fruits will assist in standardization for quality, purity and sample identification.

The Spectrum of Clinical and Urodynamic Findings in Patients with Spinal Tuberculosis Exhibiting Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, before and after Spinal Surgical Intervention with Antitubercular Treatment: A Prospective Study

        Nitin Shrivastava,Prabhjot Singh,Brusabhanu Nayak,Bhavuk Garg 대한척추외과학회 2019 Asian Spine Journal Vol.13 No.4

Study Design: Observational study. Purpose: This study aims to assess the clinical and urodynamic parameters in patients with spinal tuberculosis (TB) exhibiting lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) at the time of presentation and after spinal surgical intervention. Overview of Literature: Variable urodynamic findings in patients with spinal TB. Methods: We prospectively evaluated 10 patients with spinal TB exhibiting LUTS. Urinary symptoms were assessed by the American Urological Association (AUA) symptom score. We performed a urodynamic study (UDS), including electromyography, in all patients before and 3 months after spinal surgery. Results: The mean age of patients was 29.7 years (range, 15–52 years), and the mean AUA symptom score was 12.5 and 11.8 before and after spinal surgery, respectively. Overall, five patients exhibited improvement in the AUA symptom score, and three showed no change, while two patients’ condition worsened. We observed detrusor overactivity (DO) in two patients, and detrusor sphincter dyssynergia (DSD) in four patients. In addition, high-pressure voiding (HPV) was noted in two patients. On follow-up after spinal surgery, DO and DSD exhibited no improvement. Although HPV resolved, two patients developed new-onset poor compliance with worsening DO and DSD. Furthermore, two patients had bilateral hydronephrosis before surgery, which resolved on follow-up. Conclusions: Patients with spinal TB exhibiting LUTS can display a spectrum of clinical presentations and variable UDS findings. As two patients exhibited new onset poor compliance with bilateral hydronephrosis in one of them, this study concludes that a close follow-up for upper tracts in these patients is required despite successful spinal surgery.
