This paper describes a methodology for preliminary design of the stabilizers and control surfaces for a general aviation class light aircraft. The approach implements Multi-Disciplinary Design Optimization, integrating aerodynamics and weight analysis modules. The optimal stabilizer and control sizing is determined such that the drag in the cruise phase of flight is minimized the aircraft is stable and has desirable handling qualities during all phases of flight for all allowable loading situations. The approach has been implemented in the conceptual and early preliminary design phases of a new light aircraft, the KLA-100, currently under development. The results show a good agreement between optimized stabilizer configurations and that of currently available aircraft designs.

A comprehensive program development using a multi-disciplinary approach for propeller driven aircraft analysis, design and optimization is presented in this paper. The program consists of a worksheet format database with a data processing module along with modules for aerodynamic, propulsion, mission, weight and geometry analysis, and 3D geometry display. The program was written using object oriented programming to enhance exibility and extensibility compared to functional programming approach. Additional analysis modules and design optimization extensions can be written and integrated easily. The developed program source code is being continuously optimized to reduce computational time and improve effciency. Most of the methods used in current program were used for conceptual and preliminary design of the KLA-100, a new VLA category aircraft. The accuracy of the analysis methods was validated using experimental and published data.

Since deterministic optimization method without considering uncertainty lead to unreliable designs, it is required to consider design methods that take into account of the input uncertainty. In this study, uncertainties which are from the analysis methods that do not perfectly correspond to physical phenomenon are taken into account in optimization process. Possibility Base Design Optimization Design Optimization is one of the methods for accounting for uncertainties by modeling each source of uncertainty as a fuzzy number. Possibility Base Design Optimization with performance measure approach that improves numerical efficiency and stability is used in this design optimization. This paper describes a process that implements a design optimization using possibility theory to perform small aircraft conceptual design optimization in order to produce results that are more conservative but more trustworthy than conventional optimization approach.

This study analyzes the educational needs for English for Cabin Crew Purposes (ECCP) considering the target learners (cabin crew/students) and the contexts (domestic/overseas contexts). The studies on ECCP were first identified using the article search engine, and the results were screened to find relevant studies for the analysis. As a result, thirty domestic and overseas studies on ECCP, from 2005 to 2021, were text analyzed to understand the educational needs for the cabin crew and students. Through the analysis, the work tasks requiring English education and the areas of learners’ needs were identified. The learners’ needs were divided into three aspects: the language and communication aspect, the teaching and learning aspect, and the management aspect. The work tasks that require English education consist of the needs for handling passengers, flights, services, and public announcements. The language and communication aspect consists of speaking & listening, reading & writing, pronunciation/intonation/stress, vocabulary, and polite & formal expressions. The teaching and learning aspect is comprised of interest & motivation, learning activities, educational materials, and mediums of instruction. The management aspect includes the types of instructors, the teaching hours, and the curriculum. The learners’ needs found in the studies on ECCP vary depending on the target learners and the contexts. The directions for English education and research for cabin crew are suggested based on the results of the current study.

This paper describes an efficient methodology for Database development for aircraft design based on parameters. This methodology can provide prediction of related parameters when insufficient data is known for an arbitrary aircraft. By using this methodology, aircraft performance, propulsion and aerodynamic data can be rapidly calculated. Fighter and attack aircraft are focused in this Database development. The methodology is firstly implemented based on known parameters which are collected from public domain sources and the approximation library is performed to predict related unknown data using approximation models. By using this database, the analysis of performance, aerodynamics and propulsion of aircraft are performed based on empirical and theoretical equations. The necessary codes for the analysis were developed and validated. In this study, database with forty-three different types of fighter and attack aircrafts has been constructed to demonstrate the feasibility, effectiveness and rapidness of the database development methodology.
