Effects of Isoflavonoids on Mouse Lymphocyte Proliferation In Vitro

The suppressive activity of isoflavonoids against lymphocyte proliferation in vitro was examined. Isoflabvonoid derivatives tested were isflavones isolated from Pueraia radix and synthesized 7-O-substituted biochanin A derivatives. The certain isoflavones such as biochanin A and 2-carbethoxybiochainin A were found to possess the suppressive activity against concanavaline A (Con A)-induced lymphocyte proliferation from mouse spleen. Against mixed lymphocyte culture reaction, biochanin A, 2-carbethoxybiochainin A, daidzein, formononetin, genistein and 7-O-isopropylbiochaninl A showed the suppressive activity at $10^{-5}$ M. However, all isoflavones tested did not show the suppressive activity against lymphocyte proliferation induced by B-cell mitogen, lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In general, isoflavones were revealed to be less active than flavones/flavonols.

A series of 2-alkyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-2,6-diazacyclopenta[b]anthracene-5,10-diones (4a-f) was synthesized and their in vitro cytotoxic activities were evaluated against six human cancer cell lines (HCT15, SK-OV-3, SNB19, A549, MCF7 and MCF7/ADR). They all appeared to be less potent than doxorubicin against all doxorubicin sensitive human cancer cell lines tested. However, these compounds retained considerable cytotoxic activity against the doxorubicinresistant cell line MCF7/ADR, implying their therapeutic potential to treat doxorubicin-resistant tumors. The most active compound 4c was equipotent with doxorubicin against HCT15 cell line.
Antiinflammatory Activity of Flavonoids:Mouse Ear Edema Inhibition

In this inverstigation, the various flavonoid aglycones were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against croton-oil or arachidonic acid induced mouse ear edema by oral or topical administration. The compounds tested were thirteen derivatives of flavan-3-ol(catechin and epicatechin), flavanone (flavanone and naringenin), flavone (flavone, chrysin and apigenin), flavonol(favonol, galangin, quercetin and morin) and isoflavone (biochanin A and 2-carbethoxy-5,7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone), along with hydrocortisone, indomethacin, 4-bormophenacyl bromide, nordihydroguaiaretic acid and phenidone as positive controls. A(isoflavone) were found to show broad inhibitoty activities (14-52%) against croton-oil or arachidonic acid induced ear edema by oral or topical application at the dose of 2 mg/mouse, although they showed less activity than hydrocortisone (26-88%) or indomethacin (36-80%). Flavonoid agtlycones tested showed higher activity when aplied topically than by the oral administration. It was also found that they inhibited arachidonic acid induced edema more profoundly than croton-oil induced edema by topical application. In arachidonic acid induced edema when applied topically, flavone derivatives such as flavone, chrysin and apigenin were revealed to be the good inhibitory agents in addition to flavonols and isoflavones. When quercetin and biochanin. A were selected for evaluating in carrageenan induced rat pleurisy and biochanin both flavonoids showed antiinflammatory activity at the dose of 70 mg/kg by the oral adminis-tration. All of these results revealed that flavonoid aglycones, especially 5,7-dihydroxy-flavonols having hydroxyl group(s) in B-ring and biochanin A (isoflavone) possessed in vivo antiinflammatory activity.
소아 결핵 감염 진단에 있어서 결핵 특이항원 자극 Interferon-γ 분비능 측정의 진단적 유용성

Background: QuantiFERON(R)-TB Gold In Tube (QFT-G IT) has been used for diagnosing Latent tuberculosis infection and active tuberculosis (TB) since 2007. However, there has not been enough data on QFT-G IT for universal use in children. In this study, we evaluated the clinical usefulness of the QFT-G IT in pediatric practice. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of 70 patients younger than 18 years of age who had taken QFT-G IT and had a tuberculin skin test (TST) between July 2007 and July 2009 at Wonju Christian Hospital. The subjects were divided into two groups, asymptomatic TB exposure group and disease group. Four patients who were taking immunosuppressants during the study period were excluded. Results: A total of 66 immunocompetent children were included in this study. Among 27 asymptomatic children who had contact histories of TB, 6 (22.2%) were found to be positive by QFT-G IT. Eleven (40.7%) and 5 (18.5%) children were found to be positive by TST with cutoff values of ≥5 mm and ≥10 mm, respectively. Agreement was fair to good between QFT-G IT and TST (κ=0.59: cutoff value ≥5 mm, κ=0.7: cutoff value ≥10 mm). In disease group, 14 patients (35.9%) were diagnosed with active tuberculosis, 8/14 (57.1%) were positive on TST and 9/14 (64.3%) on QFT-G IT. The positive rate of acid-fast bacilli smear, TB-polymerase chain reaction, and culture for tuberculosis was 11% (1/9), 27.3% (3/11) and 33.3% (3/9), respectively. Conclusion: Our data support that the QFT-G IT can be used as an additional diagnostic tool for Latent and active tuberculosis infection in children.

This paper presents a speech recognition system which works successfully in the traffic environments. To guarantee high degree of success in the various noisy situations, our approach deals with noise itself from three different standpoints : 1) An implementation of automatic capture of voice-input and its exact segmentation by removal of noise, 2) a construction of reference patterns with training data including background noise, 3) a selection of feature vector which is robust in noise.<br/> The performance of our system is verified by on-line and off-line test with isolated 33 words including 10 digits. Finally, we give a brief description of our speech recognition system capable of controlling several electric components equipped in passenger car.<br/>

본 연구는 참깨의 수확 효율 개선을 위한 건조제의 선발 및 안전사용법 확립을 목적으로 수행되었다. 참깨 수확 20, 15, 10, 5일전에 건조제로써 비선택성 제초제인 글루포시네이트 암모늄 액제, 글루포시네이트-피 액제, 플루티아셋메틸 + 글루포시네이트 암모늄 액제, 티아페나실 미탁제를 처리한 결과, 지상부의 건조효과는 티아페나실이 가장 빨랐다. 건조제 처리에 따른 꼬투리의 열림은 수확 15일과 20일전 처리시 각각 50%와 90% 내외로 나타났다. 참깨의 수확량은 수확 10일전 처리에서 가장 높았으며, 그 다음은 수확 15, 5, 및 20일전의 순이었다. 천립중은 수확 5일전 처리부터 15일전 처리까지 유사하였다. 수확된 종자의 발아율은 수확 5일전과 10일전 처리에서 90% 이상을 보였다. 참깨 종자의 잔류 분석 결과, 공시된 여러 건조제 중 티아페나실 처리에서만 해당 성분이 기준량 이하로 검출 되었으므로 참깨 수확기 건조 제로는 티아페나실이 가장 적합할 것으로 향후 적용을 위해서는 작물잔류 시험과 후작물 시험이 필요할 것으로 보인다. This study was conducted to select a desiccant improving the harvesting efficiency of sesame seeds and establishing a safe use method. Non-selective herbicides such as glufosinate ammonium SL, glufosinate-P SL, fluthiacetmethyl+glufosinate ammonium SL, and thiafenacyl ME were used as a desiccant 20, 15, 10, and 5 days before sesame harvesting. The drying effect of the above-ground part of sesame was fastest in Tiafenacil treatment. The opening of the pods was around 50% and 90% in the desiccant treatment 15 and 20 days before harvesting, respectively. The yield of sesame seeds was highest 10 days before harvesting, followed by 15, 5 and 20 days before harvesting. Thousand-grain weight in the treatment 5 days before harvesting was similar to the treatment 15 days before harvesting. The germination rate of seeds was more than 90% in the treatment 5 and 10 days before harvesting. As a result of residual analysis of sesame seeds, it was predicted that Tiafenacil would be the most suitable desiccant in sesame because the corresponding component was detected below the standard amount only in the treatment of Tiafenacil among several tested desiccants.
