Antagonistic Activity of Siderophore-Producing Bacteria from Black Rice Rhizosphere against Rice Blast Fungus Pyricularia oryzae

        ( Nabila ),( Rina Sri Kasiamdari ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2021 한국미생물·생명공학회지 Vol.49 No.2

Rice blast caused by Pyricularia oryzae, which is a major threat to food security worldwide, markedly decreases the yield of rice. Some rhizobacteria called 'plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria' inhibit plant pathogens and improve plant growth by secreting iron-chelating siderophores. The decreased availability of iron adversely affects the survival of pathogens, especially fungal pathogens, in the rhizosphere. This study aimed to determine the morphological diversity of siderophore-producing bacteria, analyze the type of siderophores produced by the bacteria, and examine their growth-inhibitory activity against Pyricularia oryzae. The rhizobacteria were isolated from the rhizosphere of Sembada Hitam variety of black rice plants in Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. In total, 12 distinct isolates were screened for the production of siderophores. It was found that 9 out of 12 bacteria produced siderophore and most of them were Gram positive bacteria. The best siderophore-producing isolates with different type of siderophore were used in further studies. The IS3 and IS14 isolates were found to be the best siderophore producer that produced hydroxamate and mixed type of hydroxamate-carboxylate type of siderophore, respectively. In the dual culture assay, IS14 showed a strong antagonistic effect against Pyricularia oryzae by the 81.17% inhibition.

Assessment of antioxidant potential and phytochemical analysis of Pituranthos scoparius crude extract and its fractions

        Nabila Belyagoubi-Benhammou,Larbi Belyagoubi,Nadjat Bechlaghem,Nacéra Ghembaza,Fawzia Atik-Bekkara 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2017 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.17 No.1

The antioxidant activity of the crude hydroalcoholic extract (PSMW) and its derived fractions n-hexane (PSH), diethylic ether (PSDE), chloroforme (PSC), ethyl acetate (PSEA), n-butanol (PSB) and residual aqueous fraction (PSA) of aerial part of endemic plant Pituranthos scoparius was performed using three in vitro tests : phosphomolybdate assay, reducing power and DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging capacity. The total yield, total phenolic (TPC), flavonoid (TFC), flavonol (TF) and condensed tannin contents (TCT) of all the fractions were also determined. This plant was also subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening test for various constituents. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, coumarins, saponins and steroids in the extracts. Amongst the extracts, PCMW showed the highest TPC (8.40 ± 0.01 mg gallic acid equivalent/g of dry matter), TFC (2.25 ± 0.01 mg catechin equivalent/g), TF (1.19 ± 0.04 mg quercetin equivalent/g) and TCT (1.07 ± 0.16 mg catechin equivalent/g). The Total Antioxidant Capacity (CAT) was found to be varied in different fractions from 0.11 ± 0.00 to 10.02 ± 0.02 mg ascorbic acid equivalent/g). Therefore, PSEA showed the highest antioxidant activities to reduce iron (IC50 = 1.19 ± 0.00 mg/mL) and to scavenge DPPH (IC50 = 0.91 ± 0.02 mg/mL).

Hepatoprotective and Anti-Obesity Properties of Sardine By-Product Oil in Rats Fed a High-Fat Diet

Nabila Boukhari Benahmed Daidj,Myriem Lamri-Senhadji 한국식품영양과학회 2021 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.26 No.3

Excess lipid intake can trigger liver lipid accumulation and oxidative responses, which can lead to metabolic disturbances and contribute to hepatic steatosis and obesity and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Production of fish oil rich in omega-3 is a good opportunity for valorizing fish by-products in the therapeutic field. In this study, we explored the effects of oil from Sardina pilchardus by-products on cardiometabolic and oxidative disorders caused by toxic effects of excess lipids in obese rats. Three groups of obese rats received either 20% sardine by-product oil (SBy-Ob-HS; experimental group), 20% fillet oil (SF-Ob-HS; positive control group), or a high-fat diet (Ob-HS). Normal weight rats received a standard diet (normal). There was a significant decrease in serum total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerols (TG), and insulin concentrations in the SBy-Ob-HS group compared with the SF-Ob-HS group. Compared with the Ob-HS group, TC and TG, glycemia, glycosylated hemoglobin, and insulinemia were decreased in the SBy-Ob-HS (more notably) and SF-Ob-HS groups. Furthermore, hepatic lipids, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (C), the non-esterified cholesterol/phospholipids ratio, serum transaminases activities and lipid peroxidation were lower and serum high density lipoproteins-C were higher in the SBy-Ob-HS and SF-Ob-HS groups compared with the Ob-HS group. Serum isoprostane concentrations were reduced in the SBy-Ob-HS (more notably) and SF-Ob-HS groups compared with the Ob-HS and normal groups. The activities of antioxidant enzymes in tissues were enhanced, particularly in the by-product oil group. The oil extracted from by-products demonstrate anti-obesity properties (hypolipemiant, hepatoprotective, antiatherogenic, antidiabetic, and antioxidant) that may be beneficial for the management of obesity and its complications, such as hepatic steatosis.

Platelet-rich fibrin along with a modified minimally invasive surgical technique for the treatment of intrabony defects: a randomized clinical trial

        Nabila Ahmad,Shikha Tewari,Satish Chander Narula,Rajinder Kumar Sharma,Nishi Tanwar 대한치주과학회 2019 Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science Vol.49 No.6

Purpose: The modified minimally invasive surgical technique (M-MIST) has been successfully employed to achieve periodontal regeneration. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is known to enhance wound healing through the release of growth factors. This study aimed to observe the outcomes of periodontal surgery when M-MIST was used with or without PRF for the treatment of isolated intrabony defects. Methods: This randomized clinical trial was conducted on 36 systemically healthy patients, who had chronic periodontitis associated with a single-site buccal probing pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment level of ≥5 mm. Patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: the test group treated with M-MIST and PRF, and the control group treated with M-MIST alone. The primary periodontal parameters analyzed were PPD, relative attachment level (RAL), and relative gingival margin level. The radiographic parameters analyzed were change in alveolar crest position (C-ACP), linear bone growth (LBG), and percentage bone fill (%BF). Patients were followed up to 6 months post-surgery. Results: Intragroup comparisons at 3 and 6 months showed consistently significant improvements in PPD and RAL in both the groups. In intergroup comparisons, the improvement in PPD reduction, gain in RAL, and the level of the gingival margin was similar in both groups at 3 and 6 months of follow-up. Furthermore, an intergroup comparison of radiographic parameters also demonstrated similar improvements in C-ACP, LBG, and %BF at 6 months of follow-up. Conclusions: M-MIST with or without PRF yielded comparable periodontal tissue healing in terms of improvements in periodontal and radiographic parameters. Further investigation is required to confirm the beneficial effects of PRF with M-MIST.

Chronic Early-life Stress in Rat Pups Alters Basal Corticosterone, Intestinal Permeability, and Fecal Microbiota at Weaning: Influence of Sex

( Nabila Moussaoui ),( Jonathan P Jacobs ),( Muriel Larauche ),( Mandy Biraud ),( Mulugeta Million ),( Emeran Mayer ),( Yvette Tache ) 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회(구 대한소화관운동학회) 2017 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.23 No.1

Background/Aims Wistar rat dams exposed to limited nesting stress (LNS) from post-natal days (PND) 2 to 10 display erratic maternal behavior, and their pups show delayed maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and impaired epithelial barrier at PND10 and a visceral hypersensitivity at adulthood. Little is known about the impact of early life stress on the offspring before adulthood and the influence of sex. We investigated whether male and female rats previously exposed to LNS displays at weaning altered corticosterone, intestinal permeability, and microbiota. Methods Wistar rat dams and litters were maintained from PND2 to 10 with limited nesting/bedding materials and thereafter reverted to normal housing up to weaning (PND21). Control litters had normal housing. At weaning, we monitored body weight, corticosterone plasma levels (enzyme immunoassay), in vivo intestinal to colon permeability (fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran 4 kDa) and fecal microbiota (DNA extraction and amplification of the V4 region of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene). Results At weaning, LNS pups had hypercorticosteronemia and enhanced intestinal permeability with females > males while body weights were similar. LNS decreased fecal microbial diversity and induced a distinct composition characterized by increased abundance of Gram positive cocci and reduction of fiber-degrading, butyrate-producing, and mucus-resident microbes. Conclusions These data indicate that chronic exposure to LNS during the first week post-natally has sustained effects monitored at weaning including hypercorticosteronemia, a leaky gut, and dysbiosis. These alterations may impact on the susceptibility to develop visceral hypersensitivity in adult rats and have relevance to the development of irritable bowel syndrome in childhood. • Comparative Study for Biogas Production from Different Wastes

        Nabila Laskri,Nawel Nedjah 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.7 No.4

The bulk of our work was performing the anaerobic digestion of wastes rich in organic matter in a laboratory prototype. The two different substrates: the biodegradable waste from landfill and sludge from the wastewater treatment plant by natural lagoon. We surveyed the evolution of the degradation of organic matter of both experiments which are carried in a digester with a capacity one liter, sealed. During the experiments we followed themeasure of the COD (chemical oxygen demand), the volume of biogas formed during the digestion, the temperature and the pH.The biogas produced from the anaerobic digestion of the two substrates is flammable with a percentage of CH4 more than 64%. Comparing the volume of biogas produced during the digestion of the two substrates of digestion we found that the volume collect from the sludge waste is greater than 10 times relative to thevolume of biogas produced with organic matter in the landfill. The volume of biogas produced is always a function of the residence time of digestion and the concentration of organic matter in the experiment. The percentage of decrease in COD of the sludge was estimated at 87.3% and the substrate of the landfill is 82.44%.

      • Assessment of the Nature and Severity of Pain Using SF-MPQ for Cancer Patients at the National Institute of Oncology in Rabat in 2015

Nabila, Rouahi,Zineb, OuazzaniTouhami,Hasna, Ahyayauch,Nisrin, El Mlili,A, Filali-Maltouf,Zakaria, Belkhadir Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.8

Background: Cancer is a worldwide health problem and pain is among the most common and unpleasant effects affecting well-being of cancer patients. Accurate description of pain can help physicians to improve its management. Many English tools have been developed to assess pain. Onkly a limited number of these are applied in Arab countries. Our aim was to assess the quality, the nature and the severity of pain using the short McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) on cancer patients in the National Institute of Oncology (NIO) in Rabat, Morocco. Materials and Methods: The tool used is the SF-MPQ inspired from the Arabic version of the MPQ. The subjects were cancer patients (N=182) attending the NIO, from 24th October 2015 to 8th January 2016, aging ${\geq}18$ years old, experiencing pain and coming to have or to update their pain medication. Results: The rate of participation was 96.3%. Eight patients had difficulties to express their pain using descriptors, but could use the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the body diagram. The most frequent sensory descriptors were 'Throbbing', 'Shooting', 'Hot-Burning'. The most used affective descriptor was 'Tiring-Exhausting'. The mean VAS was 6.6 (2.4). The mean score of all items was 11.9 (7.8). The patients were suffering from severe pain. The internal consistency of the form was s acceptable. Conclusions: The findings indicate that most of the patients attending the pain center of the NIO could use the descriptors of the SF-MPQ to describe their pain. They indicate the usefulness of the SF-MPQ to assess the nature and the severity of pain in cancer patients. This tool should be tested in other Moroccan and Arabic contexts associated with other tools in clinical trials.

An approach to minimize reactivity penalty of Gd2O3 burnable absorber at the early stage of fuel burnup in Pressurized Water Reactor

Nabila Umme Mahbuba,Sahadath Md. Hossain,Hossain Md. Towhid,Reza Farshid 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.9

The high capture cross-section (sc) of Gadolinium (Gd-155 and Gd-157) causes reactivity penalty and swing at the initial stage of fuel burnup in Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR). The present study is concerned with the feasibility of the combination of mixed burnable poison with both low and high sc as an approach to minimize these effects. Two considered reference designs are fuel assemblies with 24 IBA rods of Gd2O3 and Er2O3 respectively. Models comprise nuclear fuel with a homogeneous mixture of Er2O3, AmO2, SmO2, and HfO2 with Gd2O3 as well as the coating of PaO2 and ZrB2 on the Gd2O3 pellet's outer surface. The infinite multiplication factor was determined and reactivity was calculated considering 3% neutron leakage rate. All models except Er2O3 and SmO2 showed expected results namely higher values of these parameters than the reference design of Gd2O3 at the early burnup period. The highest value was found for the model of PaO2 and Gd2O3 followed by ZrB2 and HfO2. The cycle burnup, discharge burnup, and cycle length for three batch refueling were calculated using Linear Reactivity Model (LRM). The pin power distribution, energy-dependent neutron flux and Fuel Temperature Coefficient (FTC) were also studied. An optimization of model 1 was carried out to investigate effects of different isotopic compositions of Gd2O3 and absorber coating thickness
