Confidence bands for survival curve under the additive risk model

We consider the problem of obtaining several types of simultaneous confidence bands for the survival curve under the additive risk model. The derivation uses the weak convergence of normalized cumulative hazard estimator to a mean zero Gaussian process whose distribution can be easily approxomated through simulation. The bands are illustrated by applying them from two well-known clinicla studies. Finally, simulation studies are carried outo to compare the performance of the proposed bands for the survival function under the additive risk model.

In the analysis of cancer data, it is important to make inferences of survival function and to assess the effects of covariates. Cox`s proportional hazard model(PHM) and Beran`s nonparametric method are generally used to estimate the survival function with covariates. We adjusted the incomplete survival time using the Buckley and James`s(1979) pseudo random variables, and then proposed the estimator for the conditional survival function. Also, we carried out the simulation studies to compare the performances of the proposed method.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine whether there is an association between lifestyle and skincare behaviors and skin health status of adult women. Methods: A sample of 102 adult women aged 20s to 50s years old were conveniently recruited at several skin care center and cosmetics shops in Daegu, Korea. The subjects were examined for skin health status by Aramo-SG (AramHuvis Inc., Korea). The demographic and lifestyle characteristics and skincare behaviors surveyed by self-administered questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to determine the factors related with skin health status using SPSS 18.0. Results: In univariate analysis, Aged over 30s (p<0.001), married (p<0.001) and appropriate drink (p=0.040) were positively associated with skin health status among demographic and lifestyle characteristics. Among the skincare behaviors, experience of homecare only significantly associated with skin health status (p=0.007). In multivatiate analysis, age and experience of homecare were independently significantly associated with skin health status after adjusting for other variables. Conclusions: An appropriate drink and experience of homecare were positively associated with management of skin health. Therefore, it is important to have proper skincare behaviors to keep sound skin condition.

본 연구에서는 Buckley와 James의 방법을 이용하여 중도절단된 자료를 보완한 조건부생존함수 추정량으로부터 조건부평균잔여수명함수를 추정하는 방법을 제안하고, 모의실험을 통하여 제안된 방법의 효율성을 평가하였다. 모의실험 결과 비례위험모형이 아닌 경우 제안된 방법으로 추정한 조건부 평균잔여수명함수의 평균제곱오차가 Cox모형이나 Beran의 비모수적 방법을 이용하여 구한 추정치의 평균제곱오차보다 작게 나타났으며, 비례위험모형인 경우에는 제안된 방법으로 추정한 결과들이 Cox 모형을 이용하여 얻은 결과들과 비슷하게 나타났다. 또한 K대학교병원 외과에서 위암 수술을 받은 1,192명의 환자 자료를 이용하여 제안된 방법의 임상적 적용의 적절성을 평가하였다. The aims of this study were to propose a method of estimation for mean residual life function (MRLF) from conditional survival function using the Buckley and James's (1979) pseudo random variables, and then to assess the performance of the proposed method through the simulation studies. The mean squared error (MSE) of proposed method were less than those of the Cox's proportional hazard model (PHM) and Beran's nonparametric method for non-PHM case. Futhermore in the case of PHM, the MSE's of proposed method were similar to those of Cox's PHM. Finally, to evaluate the appropriateness of practical use, we applied the proposed method to the gastric cancer data. The data set consist of the 1, 192 patients with gastric cancer underwent surgery at the Department of Surgery, K-University Hospital.

In this paper, we studied about several methods of testing hypothesis of correlation, specially Approximate method, Empirical method and Bootstrap method. The Approximate method is based on the Fisher's Z-transformation and the Empirical and Bootstrap methods approximate the distribution of the sample correlation coefficient by Monte Carlo simulation and Bootstrap technique, respectively. In order to compare how good these tests are, we computed powers under various alternatives. Consequently, we see that the Approximate test performs very well even if in small sample and all tests have almost the same power in large sample.

임의중도절단된 생존시간자료에서 생존함수에 대한 동시신뢰대를 근사식이나 표없이 구성하는 간단한 방법을 제안하였다. 그리고 모의실험을 통하여 기존의 동시신뢰대와 포함확률측면에서 서로 비교하고, 실제자료에 적용하여 보았다. We consider the problem of obtaining the confidence bands for the survival function with incomplete data. It is a rather simple procedure for constructing confidence bands of survival function. This method uses the weak convergence of normalized cumulative hazard estimator to a mean zero Gaussian process whose distribution can be easily approximated through simulation. Finally, we compare the performance of the proposed confidence bands through Monte Carlo simulation and we applied to construct the proposed bands with the Leukemia patient data.
