Kenneth Burke is said to be the foremost critic of our time, and perhaps the greatest critic since S. T. Coleridge. He also has been credited with being the inventor of dramatism, a prefashionable deconstructionist and a founding father of the current movement to reconceive the human sciences in rhetorical terms. Derrida has been described as a French philosopher, an original thinker whose critique of Western philosophy encompasses literature, linguistics and psychoanalysis. Derrida's work on critical style developed precisely-as Burke's work has-out of interrogations of the relationship between metaphor and knowledge. For some commentators, Burke an Derrida are philosophic colleagues. Both have been said to function within, be shaped by, and transcend the disciplines of linguistics, communication, philosophy and literature. Both share a critique of the role of metaphor in Western philosophical thought, a critique that informs their own writing as that writing becomes less discursive and more strategically poetic. Burke's chief aim as a literary critic was to integrate all human knowledge into a workable frame. He offered a strategy of dramatism. He also created the idea of logology, which suggests that the human act is made possible only by language. Derrida rejected the view held by Plato that speech is primary to writing. He offered a strategy of deconstruction aimed at making explicit the metaphysical presuppositions that are to be mistrusted and resisted. For both, to do criticism is precisely to mark a crisis and to chart it. They think that criticism's recovery from crisis would be its death. Criticism in the Burkeian and Derridaian mode aims less at recovery or death of crisis than at sustaining the dis-ease that constitutes the critical condition. It seems that they think tangles and contradiction are the health of society, and the health of art. Burke's critical tools are designed to reveal the potentialities of the symbolic systems, or the systems of language. Derrida's task is to unmask false conceptions concealing truth and to reveal manipulative, misleading, convert and subversive uses of language. In Burke's view, human beings can refashion, control and master society through symbolic manipulations(language). In Derrida's view, human beings must regain control of their linguistically determined environment, challenge the symbolic systems that oppress and reaffirm the relation between subjectivism and being. I think we had better approach human beings and human society with Derrida's strategy and manage the problems through Burke's strategy.

In order to know the thermal insulation of stockings, measurement was made by BK style measuring apparatus and the following results were obtained; 1. In a part of calf, the thermal insulation by blended stockings of wool and cotton was higher than those of pure nylon 66. 2. The thermal insulation of woolie stockings among three samples made by nylon 66 has shown higher tendency. 3. The effect by overlapping the woolie stocking has prominent difference at 11 ±1℃ 4. Each one has not shown any difference among three nylon 66 stockings for thermal insulation in a part of abdomen.

Carcinoid tumors have been reported in a wide range of organs but most commonly involve the lungs, bronchi and gastrointestinal tract. Within the gastrointestinal tract, appendix is the most common location for carcinoid, followed by the distal small intestine, the rectum, and the stomach. Among these, primary involvement of the ampulla of Vater is extremely rare. We report a case of carcinoid tumor of ampulla of Vater. A 62-year-old man presented with epigastric soreness. Gastroduodenal endoscopy showed hyperemic bulging mass on ampulla of Vater and diagnosed as carcinoid tumor by histologic finding, with immunohistochemical study. In ^(111)In-octreoscan, tumor had regional lymph node metastasis, but no evidence of distant metastasis. Pancreatoduodenectomy with lymph node dissection was performed.

In dorsal laminectomy for the surgical treatment of thoracolumbar disc disease in dog, the bur could slip into the vertebral canal. For the decrease of this probability of danger, osteotome was used with instruments such as bur and rongeur in dorsal laminectomy. At thoracic vertebrae (T10-T11) and lumbar vertebrae (L5-L6) area, dorsal laminectomys were performed in a dog. In observation for 3 months after surgery, the dog revealed healthy physical condition. For the confirmation of healing condition at 3 months after dorsal laminectomy, two surgical sites were exposed by incision. Excellent healing response was observed with no adhesion and fibrosis in the vertebral canal.

In this study, Performance of muffler is studied at constant velocity of carbureted 4 stroke engine. Pressure fluctuation was measured by pressure transducer at muffler, and performance of a muffler was investigated through transfer function analysis by analyzer. The experimental results show that remarkable attenuation in exhaust noise was accomplished and characteristics of muffler was discussed in detail in connection with associated experimental data.

대학의 교수학습 개발에 대한 요구분석 연구 : 동국대학교 교수집단을 중심으로 focusing on Faculties of the Dongguk University

본 연구의 목적은 동국대학교의 교수들이 수행하고 있는 교수학습 방식을 파악하고 각 방법들의 효과성을 교수들이 어떻게 인식하고 있는지를 알아 보고자 하였으며 창의적 교수학습방법개발에 대한 교수들의 요구를 파악하여 교수학습개발센터의 프로그램개발을 위한 기초자료로 삼고자 하였다. 수업방식에 있어서 전공, 교양을 막론하고 대부분이 강의식 수업방식이 높았으며(80.9%, 86%), 발표식, 토론식이 (14%, 18.6%) 실험실습 등이 그 다음으로 나타났다. 교수들은 전공과목보다는 교양수업에서 학생들의 요구에 맞는 수업 수업방식을 고려하고 있는 반면 수업방식의 효과에 대해 53%만이 효과적이라고 보고하고 있다. 교수들도 효과적인 강의방법 등 교수법에 대해 체계적으로 학습할 필요성을 느끼고 있었다. 강의 기술(교수방법)과 토론 중심 수업 방법에 대한 워크샵에 대한 요구가 가장 높게 나타났고 발표수업과 프로젝트수업 방법 등 강의식 수업 이외의 다른 수업방식에 대한 워크샵 요구도가 높았다. 그 외에 학교의 지원에 대해서는 첨단 수업 기자재 활용을 위한 보조자(조교)에 대한 요구도가 가장 높고 강의 운영을 위한 보조금, 개인별 상담 지원 순으로 요구도가 높게 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to comprehend the methods of teaching and learning carried out by the teachers of Dongguk University, and to find out how the professors found those methods effective. This research was also used to serve as a basis for the development of a more creative teaching-learning system to enhance better programs for the Professor Teaching-Learning Development Center. In teaching methods, regardless of classes for majors or for cultural enrichment, most of the courses were in the form of lectures (80.9%, 86%) followed by research and discussion (14%, 18.6%), with experiment and practical training coming in third. Although professors tend to choose a more student-oriented class method in distribution courses more than in major courses, it was reported that only 53% of the faculty claimed this class method to be effective. The faculty felt the need for professors to have more constructive learning in incorporating more effective teaching methods. The demand for professor workshops on teaching skills (teaching methods) and discussion oriented classes proved to be high, as well as the need for workshops on teaching methods other than lectures, such as research courses and project oriented class methods. Regarding other demands for university support, the demand for an assistant (assistant teacher) to help with the new technology equipment was the highest, followed by subsidies for course management and support in individual counseling.

인터넷 기업가치평가에 관한 연구

This study is to valuate the internet corporate listed on KOSDAQ. The traditional valuation method based on only historical accounting incomes is not fully adequate for evaluation of internet corporate. Though the initial growth rates of internet companies are very high in their early stages, their operating incomes are very low because of high marketing and investment expenditures. This study was conducted on the samples of 42 firms that have reported their ratios of sales changes in individual company level for 3 years listed on KOSDAQ in 2000. Black-Scholes' option pricing model and DCF model were used to test the difference between the estimated corporate value in this study and real stock price. The result of study is as follows : There is no difference between estimated stock price by option model and real stock price. The result shows the stock price estimated by DCF model didn't explain real stock price. The sensitivity analysis by variables in both model indicates that DCF model is more sensitive than option model. DCF model consist of 4 estimated variables, while option model has only one. It can be interpreted that DCF model produces bigger variable measurement errors compared to option model. But option model is more appropriate to value the internet company's stock price than DCF model.

Kenneth Burke defines theology as words about God and logology as words about words. Both theology and logology have relation to words, or language. Logology involves only empirical considerations about our nature as a symbol- using animal. For that very reason it is fascinated by the genius of theology, because many theologians have been so inventive in the ways of symbolic action. When we realize how the nature of our terms affects the nature of our observations, by directing our attention in one way rather than another we see that the observations are but implications of the particular terminology in which they are represented. There are many notable aspects of language, such as classification or abstraction which have their analogues in purely nonverbal behavior. But the negative is a peculiarly linguistic resource. Logology inclines to class all religions as examples of a sacrificial principle and also comes to a focus on transformational and generative principles of symbol-systems in general Logology makes no judgement at all about the truth or falsity of theologic doctrine. Burke believes that, if we analyze and under- stand the theologic doctrine. we can arrive at a truer understanding of language and even a truer understand-ing of the human relations. Logology explains the role and the function of literature positively. Deconstruction can be said to have nothing to say about the social work that representation can and does do, but logology has something to say about the social work that representation can does and must do.

상징적 행위로서의 The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Kenneth Burke defines poetry as symbolic action. He thinks that we cannot understand a poem's structure effectively without understanding the function of the structure and that to understand its function we must underatand its purpose. He also asserts that the general purpose of all poetry is salvation, that the general function is purgative-redemptive, and that the general-burden which all men naturally bear is guilt. Every man has his own problem. According to the theory of symbolic action, the poem must be symbolic autobiography and hence must deal with some deeply personal problem which the author faced and solved or tried to solve in the poem, and is a purgative- redemptive symbolic action. It also contains the pollution-purification- redemption archetype. Burke's remarks on symbolic action in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner provide us with an excellent idea of his theory and method. His departure for all of his remarks is the sin of drug addiction. He is interested in tracing how the drug addiction produced in Coleridge a sense of guilt, how both the sin and guilt were translated into the symbols of poetry and how The Rime of the Ancient Mariner functioned for Coleridge as rituals for the redemption of his drug addiction. The albatross is a surrogate for the poet's wife, Sarah. The albatross and the detained wedding-guest are symbolic of Coleridge's marital - religious problem. The snakes are a surrogate for his drug addiction. Confession itself is curative : verbalizing the pollution is the beginning of the purgative action. The whole poem performs a scapegoat function, for it can be said that Coleridge loaded it with his burdens and sent it off into society at large. This is another part of purgative action. Burke belives man is equipped with two most extraordinary instruments for effecting beneficial changes : reason and language(symbolic action). Many problems cannot be solved through direct, practical action ; in these instances man has at his disposal the miracle of symbolic action, which is best practiced by the poets. The Ancient Mariner is one of the most important salvation devices which enabled the poet to go on living by helping him cleanse and order himself.
