        Effect of Triticale Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles on Ruminal Bacterial Populations as Revealed by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction

        Real time PCR was used in this study to determine the effect of triticale dried distillers grains with solubles (TDDGS) as a replacement for grain or barley silage in finishing diets on the presence of six classical ruminal bacterial species (Succinivibrio dextrinosolvens, Selenomonas ruminantium, Streptococcus bovis, Megasphaera elsdenii, Prevotella ruminicola and Fibrobacter succinogenes) within the rumen contents of feedlot cattle. This study was divided into a step-wise adaptation experiment (112 days) that examined the effects of adaptation to diets containing increasing levels of TDDGS up to 30% (n = 4), a short-term experiment comparing animals (n = 16) fed control, 20%, 25% or 30% TDDGS diets over 28 days, and a rapid transition experiment (56 days) where animals (n = 4) were rapidly switched from a diet containing 30% TDDGS to a barley-based diet with no TDDGS. It was found that feeding TDDGS as replacement for barley grain (control vs. 20% TDDGS) decreased 16S rRNA copy numbers of starch-fermenting S. ruminantium and S. bovis (p<0.001 and p = 0.04, respectively), but did not alter 16S rRNA copy numbers of the other rumen bacteria. Furthermore, feeding TDDGS as a replacement barley silage (20% vs. 25% and 30% TDDGS) increased 16S rRNA copy numbers of S. ruminantium, M. elsdenii and F. succinogenes (p<0.001; p = 0.03 and p<0.001, respectively), but decreased (p<0.001) the 16S rRNA copy number of P. ruminicola. Upon removal of 30% TDDGS and return to the control diet, 16S rRNA copy numbers of S. ruminantium, M. elsdenii and F. succinogenes decreased (p = 0.01; p = 0.03 and p = 0.01, respectively), but S. dextrinosolvens and S. bovis increased (p = 0.04 and p = 0.009, respectively). The results suggest that replacement of TDDGS for grain reduces 16S rRNA copy numbers of starch-fermenting bacteria, whereas substitution for barley silage increases 16S rRNA copy numbers of bacteria involved in fibre digestion and the metabolism of lactic acid. This outcome supports the contention that the fibre in TDDGS is highly fermentable.

        이 연구는 디자인이란 사유대상(思惟對象)과 이것과 불가분(不可分)으로 관련하는 사유내용(思惟內容)간의 일치(一致)에 대한 물음이며, 일치가능한 주제와 그 관계에 대한 제안이다. 즉 디자인에 관한 전문성을 보유한 인간(디자인공급자)이, 디자인에 관한 필요와 결핍을 갖는 인간(디자인수요자)들을 위(爲)하여, 디자인이라는 전문성을 이행(履行)하는 경우에 있어서. 이 경우에 포함되고 관련하는 사유내용들이 '하나의 디자인활동(a design activity)'과 어떻게 관련하며 일치하는가에 대한 구조적 해석(構造的 解析)이 주요 관심이다. 이 연구에서 '트라이로지(trilogy)'는 디자인의 구조적 해석을 위한 기반적 개념(基盤的 槪念)으로 채택되었다. 이 연구에서, 트라이로지 개념에 의하여 그리고 트라이로지 형태로 인식 및 해석하고자한 3가지의 사유대상(주제)은, 전문적으로 디자인을 사고하고 실행하는 '인간(人間:subject)'과 인간(주체)간의 소통과정에서 매개역할을 하는 '대상(對象:object)'과 그리고 인간과 대상간에서 기능 및 기술의 개념으로 작용으로 '전문성(專門性:speciality)'으로 나누었다. 그리고 각 주제(인간, 대상, 전문성)별로 트라이로지를 구성하는 내용(성분)들은 '사용주체(user)·제조주체(company)·투자주체(client)'가 사유주관인 디자이너가 인식하여야할 3가지의 차원(次元:dimension)으로 제안되었으며, '작품(作品:works)·제품(製品: products)·상품(商品:goods) 혹은 그 체계(the system)들'이 양(兩)주체간의 소통매개인 디자인대상을 도해(圖解)할 수 있는 3가지의 차원으로 제안되었다. 그리고 마지막으로 '개념개발(槪念開發)·조형생성(造形生成)·가치구현(價値具現)'이 디자이너가 사고 및 실행하여야할 전문성을 도해할 수 있는 3가지의 차원으로 제안되었다.

        For the last two decades, there has been an increasing understanding of the role of the industrial design in the field of the development of merchandise. Appling this new design concept into the progress of the product development is now regarded as one of the most important business competitive edge. To make the merchandise more valuable and more competitive, the idea has already been employed in many of consumer's and durable goods. The use of the ID is now being extened to more technology-oriented products, so called 'the developed-country-type products', especially to the products which have a high-lot-size(usually greater than 10,000) and which can produce a higher additional-value. Considering the national capability and technical potential of Korea in heavy construction equipments(HCE) industry, development and export of the HCE are appeared to be very desirable. An appropriate application of the industrial design(ID) or industrial design engineering(IDE) to the readily-stablized HCE technology will promise a good result in the international competition. The role of ID, as a competitive edge, in the process of the development of HCE can be summarized as; 1) to decide the original image of the product, as a creative designing(gestatung), 2) to play a coordinator in 'Man/Machine System' for user. Especially, in case of the HCE development, a comprehensive understanding of the related engineering and regulation of the machines will be indispensable for the most competitive product design, because in this case, the function of the product hasthe first priority and the structure/mechanism of the system is major factor.

        The design ideology is the role that developes and emphasizes the socialization of the art, is practiced in the industrialized environment. In the point of technical view, In the point of technical view, Industrial Design, Science of Industrial Design or Industrial Design Engineering has a sort of prefix or suffix. These added word may be understood as a couple of ways through the design realization, and can be interpreted as the emphasis the potentiality or possibility of various related design factors. Therefore the function of these terminology is the systematic way to solve design problems, and establishes the organic relation with the environmental factors in the design process. The industrialized process in the 20 centuries brings an abundant and consuming society, but that causes a lot of problems such as some communication errors in the decision-making stage among the disciplinary fields by the exceeding subdivision and the specialized. And these phenomena give rise to the integration by the networking among the groups using the computer communication network. Design also changes to meet the new requirement in the society and design education curricula are developed in the leading universities such as the Royal College of Art and ICSTM, Delft University of Technology, MIT and Stanford University which have the new Industrial Design education program. In our case, the Industrial Design Engineering education program in Korea University of Technology and Education has been offered since 1992. The curricula were constructed to meet the new requirements in these days by referring those above education curricula and by considering of our environments. This is the time to manifest the identity of discipline in the Industrial Design Engineering to develop our education program further more. This is one of objectives in this study and this can be done by macroscopic understanding of new industrial structure and by investicating and modification our curricula.

      • Network based Mobility Management for Smart Homes through Proxy Mobile IP

        One of the main requirements that need to be enhanced for smart home networking is mobility. The capabilities of smart homes could be enormously enhanced if equipped with mobility allowing the users an autonomous control over the home devices and equipment. This paper presents a discussion of the concepts of proxy mobile IPv6 applied to smart home networks in order to spontaneously control the home devices and equipment while the home owner is mobile. An overview of the concepts of smart homes and proxy mobile IPv6 are also presented.

        A New Link-Based Single Tree Building Algorithm for Shortest Path Searching in an Urban Road Transportation Network

        The shortest-path searching algorithm must not only find a global solution to the destination, but also solve a turn penalty problem (TPP) in an urban road transportation network (URTN). Although the Dijkstra algorithm (DA) as a representative node-based algorithm secures a global solution to the shortest path search (SPS) in the URTN by visiting all the possible paths to the destination, the DA does not solve the TPP and the slow execution speed problem (SEP) because it must search for the temporary minimum cost node. Potts and Oliver solved the TPP by modifying the visiting unit from a node to the link type of a tree-building algorithm like the DA. The Multi Tree Building Algorithm (MTBA), classified as a representative Link Based Algorithm (LBA), does not extricate the SEP because the MTBA must search many of the origin and destination links as well as the candidate links in order to find the SPS. In this paper, we propose a new Link-Based Single Tree Building Algorithm in order to reduce the SEP of the MTBA by applying the breaking rule to the LBA and also prove its usefulness by comparing the proposed with other algorithms such as the node-based DA and the link-based MTBA for the error rates and execution speeds.

        게슈탈트 관점에서 본 독립기념관의 기명사인에 관한 연구

        이 연구는 독립기념관을 특정장소로 구별 및 증명하고 있는 ‘기명사인 A, B, C’의 조형요소별 특징들을 비교 고찰하면서, 그것들과 독립기념관의 대표건축물에서 드러난 조형요소별 특징 간의 유사성을 비교 분석하여 그 결과를 밝혀봄과 동시에, 조형요소별 유사성이 바람직한 게슈탈트(Gestalt)로서 독립기념관 곳곳을 체험함에 있어서 어떠한 의미로 작용되고 있는지도 밝혀봄에 그 목적을 두고 있다. 조형요소별 유사성 비교를 위하여 선정된 구성요소로서는 형태와 색채와 재료와 표면 그리고 대칭유무와 서체이었고, 상관분석법에 의하여 기명사인 셋과 대표건축물 간의 유사성이 비교 분석되었다. 기명사인의 서체들 간의 유사성 비교는 독립기념관의 디자인 통합관리지침을 기준으로 삼았다. 연구결과에서 독립기념관의 ‘기명사인 A, B, C’가 대칭유무와 형태와 색채와 재료와 표면에 있어서 제 각각임을 보여주었고, ‘기명사인 A와 B’는 독립기념관의 대표건축물에서 발견되는 조형요소별 특징과는 전혀 관계없음을 보여주었다. 이것은 동일한 인지대상을 기명하고 있음에도 불구하고, 일관성이 있는 게슈탈트로서 독립기념관을 체험할 수 없음을 의미한다. 한민족의 정신문화적 전당으로서 제대로 된 독립기념관 기명사인들이 되려면, 전체론적인 관점으로 융․복합적인 디자인과 실천이 함께 하여야 하는 것이다. ‘기명사인 A, B, C’는 독립기념관의 단순한 부분들이 아닌 것이므로, 전체로서의 독립기념관과 연속되어 완결될 수 있는 구성적 부분들로서 다루어져야만 하는 것이다. The Independence Hall of Korea(IHoK) is a very unique and meaningful place among Koreans. There are three different identificational signs to identify the immediate area at IHoK. Unfortunately, each visual feature among three identificational signs is quite different by describing form, color, material, surface, symmetry, and Korean font of IHoK. This means that continuity does not work among three identificational signs. Besides, visual features of two architectural-type identificational signs are very different from them of main buildings at IHoK by interaction-matrix analysis for Gestalt approach. This also means that continuity and closure do not work between two identificational signs and main buildings the reason why there is not any similarity. Although three identificational signs of IHoK was designed for identifying same one at each point, they are ironically separated in visual appearance at same place. If identificational signs of IHoK do work as a desirable part of a really meaningful place among Koreans and other visitors, they must design, organize and visually control by holistic and relational approaches.
