Environmental health centers for asbestos and their health impact surveys and activities

In 2009, Korea banned the import, transport, and use of asbestos, and the Asbestos Injury Relief Act (AIRA) was promulgated in 2011. Two environmental health centers for asbestos (EHCA), including Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital (PNUYH) and SoonChunHyang University Cheonan Hospital (SCHUCH), were adapted to find environmental asbestos-related diseases (ARDs) and to support the purposes of AIRA. EHCA conducted a health impact survey (HIS) on persons who resided or reside near asbestos factories or mines. A total of 13,433 persons have taken screening examinations in PNUYH EHCA, and 623 persons (4.6%) have had secondary examinations. Of the 21,014 persons who had screening examinations in SCHUCH EHCA, 2490 persons (11.8%) had secondary examinations. Some of those who tested positive for ARDs through HISs filed applications for the asbestos victims’ medical pocketbook (AVMP). Approximately 116 and 612 persons received AVMPs as a result of PNUYH and SCHUCH examinees, respectively. EHCAs have conducted HISs, public relations, and education for asbestos victims, ordinary citizens, and physicians. As HISs are based on voluntary participation, they does not monitor high-risk groups. Active surveillance focusing on high-risk groups has been blocked by the personal information protection act. Although important work has been performed in finding environmental asbestos victims and increasing public awareness on asbestos, it is necessary to improve the current system and registration.
Automatic Motion Generation from the Posture Template

This paper presents automatic generation of robot motion using posture template in physical training system. In this system, we define a human-like generic template with two angles, then, we generate robot motion that has used angle data of the created template. The angle data is transformed automatically to the most similar motion. This is achieved by suitable expressions for robot specification. The expressions intend to differences of angle measurement on X,Y,Z planes and DOF constraint. We choose several postures and create generic templates for chosen postures. Robot motions are also generated from generic templates by expressions.
Synthesis of 6-Aziridinylbenzimidazole Derivatives and Their In Vitro Antitumor Activities

In search for new antitumor agents, twelve 6-aziridinylbenzimidazole derivatives were synthesized and their cytotoxicities were tested against three cancer cell lines (mouse lymphocytic leukemia P388 and B16, and human gastric carcinoma SNU-16). From 4-amino-3-nitrotoluene as the starting material, 2-(acetoxymethyl)benzimidazoles (5a-d) were obtained by Phillips reaction. These benzimidazoles were then reacted with Fremy's salt to give a mixture of three 2-(acetoxymethyl) (8a-c) and four 2-(hydroxymethyl)benzimidazole-4,7-diones (9a-d). Addition of these quinones with aziridine afforded 6-aziridinyl-2-(acetoxymethyl) (10a-c) and 6-aziridinyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)benzimidazole-4,7-diones (11a-d). Utilizing 2-(hydroxymethyl)benzimidazole-4,7-diones (9b,d), esters 10d and 13e-h were prepared by the sequential reactions of esterification and addition. The synthesized compounds show potent cytotoxicity against all of three cell lines tested. The cytotoxicities of 10a-d or 11a-d against SNU-16 were wuperior to those of 13e-h, and were equal to or slightly higher than that of mitomycin C. compounds 11a-d were slightly more cytotoxic than 10a-d in all cell lines tested.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious problem not only among workers who experience industrial accidents but also among workers who witness such accidents. Early intervention is needed to prevent prolonged psychological problems. There has been no study conducted regarding the psychological problems of and interventions for bystander workers in Korea. This study introduces the experience of intervention on psychological problems at the Busan Workers' Health Center workers who witnessed their colleagues' death. An investigation and an intervention were conducted according to the Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) Guide. In total, 21 individuals including indirect observers showed statistical differences on scores of the Impact Event Scale Revised and the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 after the intervention. Future interventions and research involving a larger sample size over a longer period are needed. The KOSHA Guide could be a useful tool for urgent psychological intervention in the event of major workplace disasters.
서울시의 지역주거환경특성이 주택가격에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study is to clarify effects of local environmental and individual factors on house prices in Seoul, and analyze their impacts and interaction effects among classes. Effects on house prices differ due to individual houses`` characteristics and local features, and effects of mediating factors on house prices differ due to traffic and comfort environments even with the same individual and local features. Thus, we can systematically understand the complicated phenomena influencing house prices by analyzing impacts on house prices in a nested structure including local and individual dimensions. An appropriate method of analysis for this study is the Hierarchical Linear Model (HLM). As a result of the analysis using the model, we have foundout that the impact of local environments on house prices get increasingly higher currently than in the past. Also, this study has clarified various local level and individual level variables influencingon house prices and at the same time analyzed phenomena differently influencing house prices indifferent areas though with the same individual variables. And, it has clarified interaction effects among groups with which one can judge rising or offsetting effects on house prices. This study is significant in that it has clarified various phenomena influencing the structure of house price formation.

Because of the limitations of maximal load tests for VO2max, submaximal tests using cycle ergometer are used for field study in general. This study was conducted to evaluate validity of various submaximal tests using cycle ergometer. This study had been conducted during May to June 2005, which subjects were 15 males and 15 females in twenties. Experiment was performed with restrictive conditions which regulated ambient temperature, noise, and entrance restriction. Submaximal load test protocols including YMCA Protocol (YP), Astrand-Rhyming Protocol (ARP), Relative heart ratio Protocol (RP), and Ramp test Protocol (RP) were compared with maximal load test which used gas mask analyser using Bruce Protocol. All submaximal load tests were highly related with maximal load test (Spearman`s correlation coefficient>0.60) with statistical significancy. The highest correlation coefficient with maximal test was found in RP. Three submaximal test results except RP were significantly different with maximal test results (Wilcoxon rank test). All submaximal tests had high validity. The reason why RP had highest validity might be that it represents Korean physical strength and individual differences better than the others. RP using cycle ergometer would make easy to study for physical capacity evaluation and field workload estimation.

로봇을 이용한 체조 학습 시스템을 위해서는 영상을 통한 사람의 자세 인식기법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 Chamfer Matching을 이용한 두 영상간의 에지 윤곽 비교를 통해 자세를 인식한다. 또한, 비교 대상이 되는 에지의 크기를 조절함으로서 여러 사람에 대한 신뢰성 있는 인식 결과를 얻는다. 실험결과를 통해 알 수 있듯 에지의 크기 조절에 의해 서로 다른 사람간의 비교값 편차를 줄임으로써 인식률을 향상시키고 인식 오류를 최소화 하였다.
