      • Genomic DNA분석을 위한 백혈구 추출 칩 개발

        혈액에서의 genomic DNA의 활용은 성별의 구별에서부터 질병의 유무 및 진단에 이르기까지 다양하게 사용되어지고 있다. 이에 따라 좀 더 효율적이고 빠른 genomic DNA의 분석이 절실히 요구되고 있다. 지금까지 혈액에서의 genomic DNA PCR을 위해서는 복잡한 genomic DNA 추출 과정이 선행 되었다. 본 연구에서는. 혈구세포내에서 유일하게 핵을 가지며 DNA를 가지고 있는 백혈구만을 선별 하여 이를 PCR 증폭을 수행하여 기존의 방법의 약 3배 정도 적은 시간과 화학물질을 사용하여 비슷한 결과를 얻을 수 있는 microfluidic chip을 설계하였다. Genomic DNA PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method must need to extraction step. We collected to the leukocyte that is only to have a nuclear and DNA in whole blood component. The exofcted leukocyte was applied to the PCR method in directly. A high effciency microfluidic chip was designed to extract leukocyte from whole blood using the lab-on a chip technology. This chip was able to the fast time and low chemical volume by 3-fold.

        간우엽의 위축과 간좌엽의 보상성 비후로 인한 담낭의 간상부 전위는 비교적 드문 현상으로 알려져 있다. 저자는 우상복부 동통과 발열을 주소로 내원한 간내결석 및 총담관석 환자에서 심한 간우엽의 위축과 간좌엽의 보상성 비후로 인한 담낭의 간상부 전위를 1례 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보호하는 바이다. Suprahepatic gallbladder resulting from the atrophy of the right lobe of the liver and compensatory hypertrophy oh the left lobe of the liver is relatively a rare phenomenon. I report this phenomenon in a patient with acute suppurative cholangitis induced by intrahepatic stone, with a brief review of literature.

        I had exercised 16 middle and long-distance runners attending this school in Weight Training and Circuit Training to improve their running skills for 12 months. Having arranged and analyzed the improvement of their physical strength and their records, I had applied a training schedule and a record list system to them. So I came to the conslusion as follows. A. By means of exercising them in accordance with their aptitude, 1. almost all runners improved their physical strength, muscular staying power, softness, promptitude, etc. 2. they imporved their records remarkably by improving their physical strength and by an ideal running method. 3. they improved their physiques normally by a rational training method. B. By means of using a progressive coaching technique method and the record list in accordance with training schedule, 1. I could easily sieze the individual capacity and the fact that the runners went on doing their best. 2. the runners realized the importance of physical strength and exerted themselves to improve their records. 3. the runners trained with a firm faith without languor. C. The runners` respons after Weight Training and Circuit Training 1. Though they agonized physically and spiritually, more then 90% of them wanted to continue training. 2. More then 90% of them improved their records after the training and three sets which between a third and two-thirds of their capacity was used in were moderate tranining.

        Performance of mid-upper arm circumference to diagnose acute malnutrition in a cross-sectional community-based sample of children aged 6-24 months in Niger

        BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Accurate, early identification of acutely malnourished children has the potential to reduce related child morbidity and mortality. The current World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines classify non-oedematous acute malnutrition among children under five using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) or Weight-for-Height Z-score (WHZ). However, there is ongoing debate regarding the use of current MUAC cut-offs. This study investigates the diagnostic performance of MUAC to identify children aged 6-24 months with global (GAM) or severe acute malnutrition (SAM). SUBJECTS/METHODS: Cross-sectional, secondary data from a community sample of children aged 6-24 months in Niger were used for this study. Children with complete weight, height and MUAC data and without clinical oedema were included. Using WHO guidelines for GAM (WHZ < -2, MUAC < 12.5 cm) and SAM (WHZ < -3, MUAC < 11.5 cm), the sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), predictive values, Youden Index and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated for MUAC when compared with the WHZ reference criterion. RESULTS: Of 1161 children, 23.3% were diagnosed with GAM using WHZ, and 4.4% with SAM. Using current WHO cut-offs, the Se of MUAC to identify GAM was greater than for SAM (79 vs. 57%), yet the Sp was lower (84 vs. 97%). From inspection of the ROC curve and Youden Index, Se and Sp were maximised for MUAC < 12.5 cm to identify GAM (Se 79%, Sp 84%), and MUAC < 12.0 cm to identify SAM (Se 88%, Sp 81%). CONCLUSIONS: The current MUAC cut-off to identify GAM should continue to be used, but when screening for SAM, a higher cut-off could improve case identification. Community screening for SAM could use MUAC < 12.0 cm followed by appropriate treatment based on either MUAC < 11.5 cm or WHZ < -3, as in current practice. While the practicalities of implementation must be considered, the higher SAM MUAC cut-off would maximise early case-finding of high-risk acutely malnourished children.

        大邱地域 地殼 γ-線의 照射線量率 測定

        본 연구는 대구지역의 지각 r-선에 의한 조사선량율을 측정하고 그에 따른 성분별 공간선량율 및 지역적 분포 등의 환경방사선 특성을 조사하였다. r-선 스펙트럼의 측정에는 4"ø ×4"Nal(Tl) 계측기와 휴대용 다중파고분석장치를 이용하여 이 지역내의 28개 지점에서 in-situ spectrometry를 수행하였으며, 측정된 스펙트럼으로부터 조사선량율을 환산하여 지각 r-선의 총선량율과 일반적으로 자연방사능의 주종이 되는 ?K, ?U계열 및 ?Th계열의 성분별 조사선량율을 구하였다. 조사결과 대구지역의 지각 r-선에 의한 평군조사선량율은 9.4 μR/h였으며 지점별 분포는 7.6∼11.0 μR/h범위로 다소 차이를 보였다. 측정시에 수반되는 기후나 우주선 등에 따른 일변화폭을 고려한다면 지점간의 차이는 주로 표토층의 자연방사성핵종인 ?K, ?U계열 및 ?Th계열의 핵종에 기인함을 알 수 있었으며, 성분별 선량율은 ?K2.9∼4.6 μR/h, ?U계열1.2∼3.1 μR/h, ?Th계열2.5∼5.0 μR/h의 분포를 나타냈다. This study concerns about the measurement and the investigation of environmental radiation characteristics which the components and the distribution of exposure rates by terrestrial r-rays in Taegu area. A 4"ø ×4"Nal(Tl) scintillation detector with a multichannel analyzer was used in the measurement of r-rays as a part of in-situ spectrometry at twenty eight different locations in this area. The conversion into the exposure rate from the measured r-rays spectrum has been carried out leading to a net exposure rate and component ones by ?K, ?U series and ?Th series products which are known by the major parts in the terrestrial r-rays generally. As a result, the average exposure rate by the terrestrial r-rays in Taegu area is 9.4 μR/h and the distribution of individual exposure rates shows more or less differences between these locations even after the consideration of diurnal and rearly variations which are always involved in these measurements. The component parts of exposure rates are distributed ?k2.92.9∼4.6 μR/h, ?U series1.2∼3.1 μR/h and ?Th series 2.5∼5.0 μR/h over the measured locations.

        Selective Migration and Economic Growth in México

        The objective of this study is to determine the impact of selective internal migration on regional economic growth in Mexico. The net skilled migration rate has no significant impact on growth. The net migration rate is positively correlated with economic growth, but has no effect when endogeneity is solved. Together, the results indicate that there is no significant and robust causal impact of migration on growth. These results sustain even when we consider the negative effect that population growth rate have on regional economies.

        Desolation comes from the sky: Invasive Hymenoptera species as prey of Chilean giant robber flies (Diptera: Asilidae) through field observations and citizen science

        Robber flies (Asilidae) are the main predatory fly family feeding on beetles, butterflies, other flies for true flies, and even spiders; however, Hymenoptera is the most common prey. Invasive Hymenoptera species are common in central and southern Chile; however, few predators of these are known. The hunting behavior and prey of Chilean robber fly species are also poorly known. The aim of this study is to provide the first hunting behavior records of five Chilean giant robber fly species on invasive Hymenoptera. In addition, an updated distribution of these species is provided. Records of hunting behavior were based on fieldwork collections and citizen science observations. The historical distribution was compared with citizen science observations using chi-square analyzes. Twelve predation events were recorded. Obelophorus terebratus was the most common predator. Bombus terrestris was the invasive Hymenoptera most preyed upon. Both the extension of occurrence of Lycomya germainii as Obelophorus species showed changes in his distribution. Only O. landbecki shown changes in area of occupancy. Citizen science is playing a key role in the knowledge of biological interactions and distribution of endemic and native Chilean robber fly species.

        Stevenia deceptoria (Diptera, Rhinophoridae): Chile’s second woodlice-parasitizing fly species studied using citizen science

        Stevenia deceptoria is a woodlouse-parasitizing fly species that has recently been introduced into South America and was until now known only in Argentina. In those countries it has invaded, this exotic fly prospers in cities because of the abundance of potential hosts in gardens and public parks. Here we show that S. deceptoria has been detected in urban ecosystems in the Metropolitan and Valparaíso Regions using citizen science and we describe its current range in the city and the degree of overlap between its range and that of its potential hosts. Records of both woodlouse-parasitizing flies and their hosts were obtained from two citizen science platforms: Facebook and iNaturalist. The extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) were calculated for S. deceptoria and different woodlouse species. We assessed the advance of S. deceptoria into the city, comparing classic EOO and α-hull mode with a chi-squared test with Yates’ continuity correction. We found that S. deceptoria was widely distributed in the Metropolitan Region, with a significant expansion over time. Woodlouse species, although common in the city, are sparsely sampled and so their EOO and AOO are underestimated. Stevenia deceptoria had a medium to complete overlap in distribution with potential woodlice hosts. The rapid expansion of S. deceptoria is probably due to its native host invading the Metropolitan Region. It is therefore likely that this fly species will expand its current distribution to neighboring regions where exotic woodlouse species are present.
