        Pulse-enhanced electrokinetic remediation of fluorine-contaminated soil

        The presence of abundant fluorides in soil can pose potential threats to environment and human health. We investigated the effects of pulsed electric field on electrokinetic remediation of fluorine-contaminated soil by varyingthe pulse interval. Although the remediation time was increased, experimental results indicated pulse-enhanced electroki-netic remediation could improve the removal efficiency of fluorine better than the conventional electrokinetic remedia-tion in the same intensity of electric field. The fluorine removal efficiency of the former (30 min, pulse interval) was80.93% and that of normal electrokinetic remediation was 72.40%, because pulsed electric field could reduce the con-centration polarization and increase the electrical current, electroosmotic flow and the electrical voltage part in soilcell. Therefore, in the later phase of electrokinetic remediation, when electrical current and the fluorine removal efficiencydecreased obviously, at this time the pulse-enhanced method would be a considerable choice to eliminate fluorine incontaminated soils.

        Preparation and property evaluation of a temperature-resistant Zr-crosslinked fracturing fluid

        Compared with the traditional water-based fracturingfluid thickener guanidine gum, the price ofsynthetic polymer is relatively low, and the temperature resistance, shear resistance and viscoelasticityof the formed fracturingfluid are better. Therefore, the fracturingfluid formed by the crosslinking ofHPAM and organic metal crosslinker will become one of the hot spots in the research of water-basedfracturingfluid. In this paper, zirconium oxychloride, acetic acid and triethanolamine were used as rawmaterials to prepare organic Zr-crosslinked agent. The polymer gel was formed by crosslinking theorganic Zr-crosslinked agent with the acrylamide copolymer KY-5S solution, and the viscosity of the gelwith different concentrations was investigated. The performance of the fracturingfluid was evaluatedthrough laboratory experiments. The results showed that the viscosity of the fracturingfluid remainedabove 100 mPa s at the shear rate of 170 s 1 and after 2 h of shear at 140 C. When the temperature was20 C, the shear stress was 0.1 Pa, and the frequency f varied from 0.1 to 10 Hz, the elastic modulus offracturingfluid was at least 11.6 Pa, and the viscous modulus was at least 8.54 Pa. At the temperature of90 C, when the addition of glue breaker was 0.01 wt%, the longest breaking time was 3 h, and themaximum viscosity of breaking liquid was 4.05 mPa s. The damage rate of core permeability of gluebreaker was about 13%. When the temperature was 25 C and the shear rate was 0–170 s-1, the viscosity offracturingfluid remained above 200 mPa s.

        Eigenvalue problems for p-Laplacian dynamic equations on time scales

        In this paper, we are concerned with the following eigenvalue problems of m-point boundary value problem for p-Laplacian dynamic equation on time scales <수식> where φ_p(u) = |u|^p−2u, p > 1 and ¸ λ>0 is a real parameter. Under certain assumptions, some new results on existence of one or two positive solution and nonexistence are obtained for λ evaluated in different intervals. Our work develop and improve many known results in the literature even for the continual case. In doing so the usual restriction that f^0 = lim_(u→0)+ f(u)/φ_p(u) and f_∞ = lim_(u→∞) f(u)/φ_p(u) exist is removed. As an applications, an example is given to illustrate the main results obtained.       • EXPLORING THE INFLUENCES OF CULTURAL DIMENSIONS IN THE CONTEXT OF NEGATIVE BRAND INFORMAITON

        This study examines the influence of culture on consumers’ behavioral responses after an exposure to negative information, including their intention to search information and to spread the negative word-of-mouth. The study finds that the degree of collectivism and uncertainty avoidance had a significant and positive relationship towards the intention to search and intention to spread negative word-of-moth. Results show a significant and negative relationship between power distance and information search under the high severity scenario but a positive relationship between power distance and negative word-of-mouth under the low severity scenario.

Our work develop and improve many known results in the literature even for the continual case. In doing so the usual restriction that $f_0=lim_{u{\rightarrow}0}+f(u)/\varphi_p(u)$ and $f_\infty = lim_{u{\rightarrow}{\infty}}f(u)/\varphi_p({u})$ exist is removed. As an applications, an example is given to illustrate the main results obtained.

        Flutter Fault-Tolerant Control with Observer Considering Actuator Faults and Time Delay

        To suppress airfoil flutter, a lot of control methods have been proposed, such as classical control methods and optimal control methods. However, these methods did not consider the influence of actuator faults. We designed a new finite-time H∞ adaptive fault-tolerant flutter controller by radial basis function neural network technology and adaptive fault-tolerant control methods, taking into account actuator faults, actuator saturation, modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. The theoretical section of this paper is about airfoil flutter dynamic modeling and the design of adaptive fault-tolerant controller. Lyapunov function and linear matrix inequality are employed to prove the stability of the proposed control method of this paper. The numeral simulation section further proves the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control algorithm of this paper.

      • DOES SEX APPEAL ENHANCE LUXURY VALUE PERCEPTIONS? AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON LUXURY FASHION BRANDS

        Consumers nowadays are looking for luxury brands that are able to fulfil their values. Luxury fashion marketers have spent enormously on advertising and adopted sex appeal extensively as their major selling technique. Little empirical evidence, however, has been presented with regards to the effectiveness of using sex appeal in luxury fashion advertising. Consumer responses to sex appeal in luxury brand advertisements are also poorly understood and under-investigated. The massive use of sex appeal in luxury brand advertising suggests the strong need for empirical research to determine the relationship between sex appeal and perceived luxury values. Based on the luxury value framework and adopting a quasi-experimental design, this study examines the influence of sex appeal in advertising on the relationships between attitude towards the advertisement and luxury value perceptions. Results show that the increase of sex appeal level increases the favourability of the advertisement which results in significant changes in luxury value perceptions. The influence of gender is found to be prominent in this study, which highlights the importance of gender consideration when adopting sex appeal strategy for any luxury brand advertising. Implications for luxury brand marketers and advertisers are discussed.

        Seismic performance of eccentrically braced frames with high strength steel combination

        Eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) often use conventional steel with medium yield strength. This system requires structural members with large cross-sections for well seismic behavior, which leads to increased material costs. In eccentrically braced frames with high strength steel combination (HSS-EBFs), links use Q345 steel (specified nominal yield strength 345 MPa), braces use Q345 steel or high strength steel while other structural members use high strength steel (e.g., steel Q460 with the nominal yield strength of 460 MPa or steel Q690 with the nominal yield strength of 690 MPa). For this approach can result in reduced steel consumption and increased economic efficiency. Several finite element models of both HSS-EBFs and EBFs are established in this paper. Nonlinear hysteretic analyses and nonlinear time history analyses are conducted to compare seismic performance and economy of HSS-EBFs versus EBFs. Results indicate that the seismic performance of HSS-EBFs is slightly poorer than that of EBFs under the same design conditions, and HSS-EBFs satisfy seismic design codes and reduce material costs.
