Bifurcation and chaos of the traveling membrane on oblique supports subjected to external excitation

Mingyue Shao,Jiajuan Qing,Jimei Wu 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.11

This paper analyzes bifurcation and chaos of the traveling membrane on oblique supports subjected to external excitation. Through coordinate transformation, the Von Karman nonlinear plate theory was employed to derive the non-linear governing equations of membrane on oblique supports in terms of axial movement in the oblique coordinate system. The boundary conditions were also given in the oblique coordinate system. The approximate solution for the governing equations was found via the Galerkin method as well as the fourthorder Runge-Kutta numerical computing method. The nonlinear dynamic techniques including Lyapunov exponents diagrams, bifurcation plots, Poincare maps, phase trajectories, and time histories were introduced to analyze the impacts of the angles of oblique supports, aspect ratios and traveling velocities on dynamics responses and the various forms of vibration regarding the membrane system.

Nonlinear vibration characteristics of accelerating viscoelastic membrane

        Mingyue Shao,Jing Wang,Jimei Wu,Jiajuan Qing,Zhicheng Xue 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.10

Considering the viscoelastic characteristics of the accelerating viscoelastic membrane in roll-to-roll manufacturing, the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the accelerating viscoelastic membrane were investigated. The mechanical model of the accelerating viscoelastic membrane was established. Considering geometric nonlinearity, the equation of nonlinear vibration of the accelerating viscoelastic membrane was deduced. The ordinary differential equation of moving membranes was obtained using the Bubnov-Galerkin method and solved using the method of multiple scales. Numerical analyses reveal the effects of constant average speed, the speed fluctuation amplitude, the elastic modulus, the viscosity coefficient, and other parameters on the amplitude of vibration and the amplitude-frequency characteristics of moving membranes. Results provide theoretical guidance for the reasonable selection of printing parameters.

Analysis of Academic Evaluation Indicators Based on Citation Quality

( Mingyue Zhang ),( Jin Shi ),( Jin Wang ),( Chang Liu ) 한국정보처리학회 2018 Journal of information processing systems Vol.14 No.4

The academic research performance is often quantitatively measured by means of using citation frequency. The citation frequency-based indicators, such as h-index and impact factor, are commonly used reflecting the citation quality to some extent. However, these frequency-based indicators are usually carried out based on the assumption that all citations are equal. This may lead to biased evaluations in that, the attributes of the citing objects and cited objects are significant. A high-accuracy evaluation method is needed. In this paper, we review various citation quality-based evaluation indicators, and categorize them considering the algorithms being applied. We discuss the pros and cons of these indicators, and compare them from four dimensions. The outcomes will be useful for our further research on distinguishing citation quality.

Union and Debt: Evidence from Chinese Private Firms

Mingyue Fang,Yuxiao Zhang 연세대학교 동서문제연구원 2016 Global economic review Vol.45 No.1

Do unions really matter in China? Using a dataset containing more than 110 thousand Chinese private manufacturing firms, this paper is the first attempt to examine how unions’ bargaining power affects firms’ capital structures. We find that: (1) the firms’ debt levels are often positively associated with their unions’ bargaining powers; (2) when a firm is in financial distress, the management is more likely to issue more debt to strengthen its bargaining power against the union and increase its residual income; (3) compared with long-term debt, short-term debt is a better option for the management to increase its bargaining power and residual income. Our research indicates that the unions of private Chinese firms are an important policy instrument for the management rather than useless decorations, which provides valuable insights for us to understand the employee–employer relations and firms’ capital structures in emerging economies.

        Mingyue Gao,Xin Shen,Shirui Mao 한국약제학회 2020 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.50 No.3

Background In nasal drug delivery system, nasal spray seems to be the most promising delivery method for both local and systemic diseases therapy. Nasal deposition behavior is the most basic and important process for nasal sprays, which is related to nasal mucociliary clearance, retention of a formulation in the nose therefore the therapeutic effect. Area covered The present paper systemically summarized and discussed the factors influencing drug deposition in the nasal cavity upon delivery via nasal sprays, including device, formulation and administration techniques. Emitted dose volume of the device, spray pattern and plume geometry, droplet size distribution and velocity of emitted droplets were important device factors influencing nasal deposition. Besides, viscosity, thixotropic property and surface tension were considered to be the formulation factors influencing nasal deposition of spray. In addition, administration technique influencing nasal deposition included head orientation, administration angle, insertion depth of spray nozzle and breathing profile. Meanwhile, the imaging methods used to predict and visualize the deposition of nasal formulation was illustrated. Expert opinion The review provided important theoretical and experimental knowledge to control the deposition pattern of nasal sprays in order to achieve better therapeutic effect in the clinic.

Experimental study on vortex-induced motions of a semi-submersible with square columns and pontoons at different draft conditions and current incidences

Mingyue Liu,Longfei Xiao,Haining Lu,Xiaolong Xiao 대한조선학회 2017 International Journal of Naval Architecture and Oc Vol.9 No.3

The Vortex-induced Motions (VIM) phenomenon of semi-submersibles is relevant for the fatigue life of moorings and risers. Model tests regarding the VIM behavior of a semi-submersible with four square columns were conducted in order to investigate the effects of the current incidence and the aspect ratio of the immerged column. The experimental results show that the largest transverse amplitudes are around 70% of the column width at 30 and 45 incidences in a range of reduced velocities from 5 to 8 when the aspect ratio of the immerged column is 1.90. The largest yaw motion occurs at 0 incidence with the peak value around 4.5. Similar characteristics of the VIM response are observed for the semi-submersible with aspect ratios of 1.90 and 1.73. When the aspect ratio decreases 50% to 0.87, 30% decrease in the peak transverse amplitudes can be seen.

Pulse-width Adjustment Strategy for Improving the Dynamic Inductor Current Response Performance of a Novel Bidirectional DC–DC Boost Converter

Mingyue Li,Peimin Yan 전력전자학회 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.1

This paper presents a pulse-width adjustment (PWA) strategy for a novel bidirectional DC–DC boost converter to improve the performance of the dynamic inductor current response. This novel converter consists of three main components: a full-bridge converter (FBC), a high-frequency isolated transformer with large leakage inductance, and a three-level voltage-doubler rectifier (VDR). A number of scholars have analyzed the principles, such as the soft-switching performance and high-efficiency characteristic, of this converter based on pulse-width modulation plus phase-shift (PPS) control. It turns out that this converter is suitable for energy storage applications and exhibits good performance. However, the dynamic inductor current response processes of control variable adjustment is not analyzed in this converter. In fact, dc component may occur in the inductor current during its dynamic response process, which can influence the stability and reliability of the converter system. The dynamic responses under different operating modes of a conventional feedforward control are discussed in this paper. And a PWA strategy is proposed to enhance the dynamic inductor current response performance of the converter. This paper gives a detailed design and implementation of the PWA strategy. The proposed strategy is verified through a series of simulation and experimental results.

Androgen receptor and hyaluronan-mediated motility receptor as new molecular targets of baicalein: new molecular mechanisms for its anticancer properties

        Mingyue Jiang,Suman Poudel,Kyung Song 대한약학회 2023 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.46 No.8

Natural compounds known as phytochemicals have served as valuable resources for the development of new anti-cancer drugs and treatment of malignancies. Among these phytochemicals, baicalein is an emerging anti-tumor flavonoid obtained from Scutellaria baicaleinsis (Lamiaceae), but its underlying mechanisms of action and molecular targets have not yet been completely elucidated. Here, we identified new mechanisms for the anti-tumor activities of baicalein, providing evidence that hyaluronan-mediated motility receptor (HMMR) and androgen receptor (AR) are new molecular targets of baicalein in human cancer cells. We observed that HMMR, known to be highly associated with poor prognosis in a wide range of human cancers, was substantially downregulated by baicalein at mRNA and protein levels. Reporter assays further revealed that the suppression of HMMR by baicalein might occur through a transcriptional regulatory mechanism with the participation of Egr-1, E2F3α, and serum response factor (SRF). We also found that baicalein significantly inhibits androgenic responses in hormone-responsive prostate cancer cells, indicating that this might be attributed to the downregulation of AR promoter activity by baicalein. Additionally, baicalein markedly induced the expression of tumor suppressive miR-30C, which might be partly involved in baicalein-mediated autophagy and anti-cancer effects. Overall, our study sheds light on new diverse mechanisms of the anti-cancer effects exhibited by baicalein, implying that baicalein could be a potential therapeutic agent against human cancers and function as an inhibitor of HMMR and AR.
