Antibiotic therapy of chronic bacterial prostatitis is more effective considering antibiotic susceptibility of all pathogens isolated

        Mikhail I. Kogan,Khalid S. Ibishev,Yulia L. Naboka,Irina A. Gudima,Akhmed Kh. Ferzauli,Ruslan S. Ismailov,Kurt G. Naber 대한비뇨의학회 2022 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.63 No.3

Purpose: Because of the insufficient efficacy of the current treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP), it is justified to search for a more effective antibiotic therapy (ABT). Materials and Methods: This single-centre prospective observational comparative study was conducted in 2012 to 2019 (patients: 60 men with CBP; age: 20–45 y). The clinical examination was performed on admission and at 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. All patients underwent the Meares–Stamey test to obtain expressed prostatic secretion (EPS) and/or post-massage urine (PMU) samples for extended bacteriological examination. The patients were randomly divided into 2 treatment groups (30/30 patients): group I, fluoroquinolones (FQs); group II, a combination of FQs with cephalosporins/macrolides with a treatment duration of 1 month. Results: Patients of both groups had severe symptomatic CBP with an average duration of 4 years. Twenty-three microorganisms (15 aerobes, 9 anaerobes) were identified in PMU. At 3 months follow-up, a positive clinical effect was noted in both groups, which was significant (p<0.05) only in group II concerning NIH-CPSI questionnaire, leukocyturia, prostate volume, maximum urine flow, and decreased pathospermia. At 6 months follow-up, in group II the frequency of Escherichia coli and Enterococcus spp. decreased significantly. In group I aerobes changed only insignificantly from the initial level, but anaerobes increased significantly. In group II the titers of both, aerobes and anaerobes, were significantly lower (p<0.05) at 6 months follow-up as compared to initial values. Conclusions: ABT targeting all taxa in EPS/PMU is a more effective alternative to standard therapeutic regimens for CBP.

Needle tract seeding following percutaneous biopsy of renal cell carcinoma

        Dwayne T. S. Chang,Hariom Sur,Mikhail Lozinskiy,David M. A. Wallace 대한비뇨의학회 2015 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.56 No.9

A 66-year-old man underwent computed tomography-guided needle biopsy of a suspicious renal mass. Two months later he underwent partial nephrectomy. Histology revealed a 30-mm clear cell renal cell carcinoma, up to Fuhrman grade 3. An area of the capsule was interrupted, which corresponded to a hemorrhagic area on the cortical surface. Under microscopy, this area showed a tongue of tumor tissue protruding through the renal capsule. A tumor deposit was found in the perinephric fat. These features suggest that tumor seeding may have occurred during the needle biopsy.

Pulsed laser welding of Zr-1%Nb alloy

        Maxim A. Elkin,Alexey S. Kiselev,Mikhail S. Slobodyan 한국원자력학회 2019 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.51 No.3

Laser welding is usually a more effective method than electron-beam one since a vacuum chamber is notrequired. It is important for joining Zre1%Nb (E110) alloy in a manufacturing process of nuclear fuel rods. In the present work, effect of energy parameters of pulsed laser welding on properties of butt joints ofsheets with a thickness of 0.5 mm is investigated. The most efficient combination has been found (8e11 Jpulse energy, 10e14 ms pulse duration, 780e810 W peak pulse power, 3 Hz pulse frequency, 1.12 mm/swelding speed). The results show that ultimate strength under static loading can not be used as a qualitycriterion for zirconium alloys welds. Increased shielding gas flow rate does not allow to protect weldmetal totally and contributes to defect formation without using special nozzles. Several types of imperfectionsof the welds have been found, but the major problem is branching microcracks on the surfaceof the welds. It is difficult to identify the cause of their appearance without additional research onimproving the welding zone protection (gas composition and flow rate as well as nozzle configuration)and studying the hydrogen content in the welds.

Study of Catalysts for Catalytic Burners for Fuel Cell Power Plant Reformers

        Ismagilov, Zinfer R.,Kerzhentsev, Mikhail A.,Sazonov, Vladimir A.,Tsykoza, Lidia T.,Shikina, Nadezhda V.,Kuznetsov, Vadim V.,Ushakov, Vladimir A.,Mishania, Sergey V.,Kozhukhar, Nikolay G.,Russo, Genna 한국화학공학회 2003 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.20 No.3

Catalytic burners for fuel cell power plant reformers are alternatives to conventional flame burners. Their application is expected to provide uniform temperatures in the reformer, efficient use of low-calorific gaseous byproducts and reduction of pollutant emissions. For testing in the burners, a series of spherical Pd/CeO_2/Al_2O_3 catalysts were prepared. An optimum concentration of ceria providing the highest thermal stability of catalysts was determined. An effect of catalyst activation in the reaction mixture-1% methane in air was observed. A series of Mn containing oxide catalysts on spherical y-Al_2O_3 or (y+x)-Al_2O_3, both pure and doped with La, Ce and Mg oxides were prepared. The catalysts were characterized by chemical analysis, X-ray phase analysis, BET surface area and activity measurements in methane oxidation. A batch of Mn-Mg_La-Al-O catalyst was prepared for further long-term testing in a model reformer with a catalytic burner. A model reformer with a catalytic burner was designed and fabricated for testing in the composition of the bench-scale Fuel Cell Power Plant, Preliminary testing of this catalyst showed that it provided complete methane combustion an the specified operational temperatures over 900℃.

      • Tuning of the Interparticle interactions in ultrafine ferrihydrite nanoparticles

        Knyazev, Yuriy V.,Balaev, Dmitry A.,Yaroslavtsev, Roman N.,Krasikov, Aleksandr A.,Velikanov, Dmitry A.,Mikhlin, Yuriy L.,Volochaev, Mikhail N.,Bayukov, Oleg A.,Stolyar, Sergei V.,Iskhakov, Rauf S. Techno-Press 2022 Advances in nano research Vol.12 No.6

We prepared two samples of ultrafine ferrihydrite (FH) nanoparticle ensembles of quite a different origin. First is the biosynthesized sample (as a product of the vital activity of bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca (hereinafter marked as FH-bact) with a natural organic coating and negligible magnetic interparticle interactions. And the second one is the chemically synthesized ferrihydrite (hereinafter FH-chem) without any coating and high level of the interparticle interactions. The interparticle magnetic interactions have been tuned by modifying the nanoparticle surface in both samples. The coating of the FH-bact sample has been partially removed by annealing at 150℃ for 24 h (hereinafter FH-annealed). The FH-chem sample, vice versa, has been coated (1.0 g) with biocompatible polysaccharide (arabinogalactan) in an ultrasonic bath for 10 min (hereinafter FH-coated). The changes in the surface properties of nanoparticles have been controlled by XPS. According to the electron microscopy data, the modification of the nanoparticle surface does not drastically change the particle shape and size. A change in the average nanoparticle size in sample FH-annealed to 3.3 nm relative to the value in the other samples (2.6 nm) has only been observed. The estimated particle coating thickness is about 0.2-0.3 nm for samples FH-bact and FH-coated and 0.1 nm for sample FH-annealed. Mössbauer and magnetization measurements are definitely shown that the drastic change in the blocking temperature is caused by the interparticle interactions. The experimental temperature dependences of the hyperfine field <Hhf>(T) for samples FH-bact and FH-coated have not revealed the effect of interparticle interactions. Otherwise, the interparticle interaction energy Eint estimated from the <Hhf>(T) for samples FH-chem and FH-annealed has been found to be 121kB and 259kB, respectively.

Genome-wide association study for frozen-thawed sperm motility in stallions across various horse breeds

Nikitkina, Elena V.,Dementieva, Natalia V.,Shcherbakov, Yuri S.,Atroshchenko, Mikhail M.,Kudinov, Andrei A.,Samoylov, Oleg I.,Pozovnikova, Marina V.,Dysin, Artem P.,Krutikova, Anna A.,Musidray, Artem Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.12

Objective: The semen quality of stallions including sperm motility is an important target of selection as it has a high level of individual variability. However, effects of the molecular architecture of the genome on the mechanisms of sperm formation and their preservation after thawing have been poorly investigated. Here, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for the sperm motility of cryopreserved semen in stallions of various breeds. Methods: Semen samples were collected from the stallions of 23 horse breeds. The following semen characteristics were examined: progressive motility (PM), progressive motility after freezing (FPM), and the difference between PM and FPM. The respective DNA samples from these stallions were genotyped using Axiom Equine Genotyping Array. Results: We performed a GWAS search for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and potential genes related to motility properties of frozen-thawed semen in the stallions of various breeds. As a result of the GWAS analysis, two SNP markers, rs1141327473 and rs1149048772, were identified that were associated with preservation of the frozen-thawed stallion sperm motility, the relevant putative candidate genes being NME/NM23 family member 8 (NME8), olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily AP member 1 (OR2AP1), and olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily C member 4 (OR6C4). Potential implications of effects of these genes on sperm motility are herein discussed. Conclusion: The GWAS results enabled us to localize novel SNPs and candidate genes for sperm motility in stallions. Implications of the study for horse breeding and genetics are a better understanding of genomic regions and candidate genes underlying stallion sperm quality, and improvement in horse reproduction and breeding techniques. The identified markers and genes for sperm cryotolerance and the respective genomic regions are promising candidates for further studying the biological processes in the formation and function of the stallion reproductive system.

      • About influence of the choice of numerical flow in the DG method for the solution of problems with shock waves

        Mikhail M., Krasnov,Marina E., Ladonkina,Olga A., Nekliudova,Vladimir F., Tishkin Techno-Press 2022 Advances in aircraft and spacecraft science Vol.9 No.5

This study compares various ways of calculating flows for the problems with the presence of shock waves by first-order schemes and higher-order DG method on the tests from the Quirk list, namely: Quirk's problem and its modifications, shock wave diffraction at a 90 degree corner, the problem of double Mach reflection. It is shown that the use of HLLC and Godunov's numerical schemes flows in calculations can lead to instability, the Rusanov-Lax-Friedrichs scheme flow can lead to high dissipation of the solution. The most universal in heavy production calculations are hybrid schemes flows, which allow the suppression of the development of instability and conserve the accuracy of the method.
