Managing favorable product – country match in international markets: The case of “Made in Gessi”

        Michela Matarazzo,Riccardo Resciniti 한국마케팅과학회 2013 마케팅과학연구 Vol.23 No.4

Studies on country-of-origin effect (COO) largely show that product and country image is relevant in the field of perceptions and of quality evaluations of unfamiliar products. Roth and Romeo (1992) highlight that country image is product-specific and in situation of favorable product country match the emphasis of the perceived origin associations of products, created either through the language associated with the brand name or through advertising, can be very beneficial. This paper analyzes the remarkable case of a virtuous mid-sized company of the “made in Italy” operating in the bathroom furnishings industry, Gessi, in order to highlight how it exploits the congruent country image and the effects on its international marketing strategy. We start from the framework of Roth and Romeo (1992), which is discussed in the literature review and then refined through the empirical research. The findings suggest that while Gessi emphasizes the Italian origin of its products, rather than using the generic slogan “made in Italy”, it has decided to use “made in Gessi”, highlighting the place in which all the company’s productive activities are carried out: the Gessi Park. The meanings do not arise spontaneously from territory, but from the company’s strong personality. Gessi signifies a “private wellness” experience involving style, exclusivity, status, appearance, fashion, design, craftsmanship and quality. It needs hard investment in intellectual, human, relational and structural capital.

      • Emotion Map Making. Discovering Teachers’ Relationships with Nature

Michela Schenetti,Elisa Guerra 환태평양유아교육연구학회 2018 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhoo Vol.12 No.2

Outdoor education means increasing the opportunity to encounter and experiment with nature, but above all, it means rethinking one’s own relationship with nature. Professionals working in the field of education cannot transmit to children what they do not know or share. Therefore, to foster education in nature with pedagogical skill, it is important for each practitioner to become aware of their own way of thinking and be willing to undergo an authentic noological revolution (Bateson, 1976), reviewing their own relationship with the environment in an educational key. Starting from these premises, the participatory research focuses on the role of the early childhood practitioner, the emotions they feel, and the meanings they give to the outdoor spaces of the educational facility they inhabit in on a daily basis and share with the children. Placing the focus on the adult’s viewpoint meant investigating their experiences and how these can condition the children s relations with more natural, destructured spaces. The results gathered by two tools, heart maps and lived-experience descriptions reveal difficulties teachers experience in connection with some spaces which are considered challenging and the necessity to support teachers in the reappropriation of those spaces with a view to identifying new perspectives for improvement.

The Three-Dimensional Morphology of Candida albicans as Seen by High-Resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy

        Michela Isola,Raffaella Isola,Maria Serenella Lantini,Alessandro Riva 한국미생물학회 2009 The journal of microbiology Vol.47 No.3

The fine structure of Candida albicans has been repeatedly described by transmission electron microscopy, whereas studies by high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM) are rare and devoted solely to the study of its external morphology. This report describes the results of an HRSEM study on C. albicans carried out by an osmium maceration protocol modified to better retain the structural characteristics of this yeast. Thus, we visualized various intracellular structures including invaginations of cell membrane (plasmalemmasomes), nuclear envelope, mitochondria, the vacuolar system, and two additional structures that might represent a form of endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus. The present investigation, which for the first time shows the organelles of C. albicans at the 3D level, may lead to a better understanding of its cell physiology.

Comorbid Depressive Disorders in ADHD: The Role of ADHD Severity, Subtypes and Familial Psychiatric Disorders

        Michela Di Trani,Francesca Di Roma,Andriola Elda,Leone Daniela,Parisi Pasquale,Miano Silvia,Donfrancesco Renato 대한신경정신의학회 2014 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.11 No.2

Objective To evaluate the presence of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Dysthymic Disorder (DD) in a sample of Italian children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and to explore specific features of comorbid depressive disorders in ADHD. Methods Three hundred and sixty-six consecutive, drug-naïve Caucasian Italian outpatients with ADHD were recruited and comorbid disorders were evaluated using DSM-IV-TR criteria. To evaluate ADHD severity, parents of all children filled out the ADHD Rating Scale. Thirty-seven children with comorbid MDD or DD were compared with 118 children with comorbid conduct disorder and 122 without comorbidity for age, sex, IQ level, family psychiatric history, and ADHD subtypes and severity. Results 42 of the ADHD children displayed comorbid depressive disorders: 16 exhibited MDD, 21 DD, and 5 both MDD and DD. The frequency of hyperactive-impulsive subtypes was significantly lower in ADHD children with depressive disorders, than in those without any comorbidity. ADHD children with depressive disorders showed a higher number of familial psychiatric disorders and higher score in the Inattentive scale of the ADHD Rating Scale, than children without any comorbidity. No differences were found for age, sex and IQ level between the three groups. Conclusion Consistent with previous studies in other countries, depressive disorders affect a significant proportion of ADHD children in Italy. Patient assessment and subsequent treatment should take into consideration the possible presence of this comorbidity, which could specifically increase the severity of ADHD attention problems.

Language,Education ; Culture in Language: comparing cultures through words in South Africa

( Michela Montevecchi ) 경희대학교 글로벌인문학술원 2011 비교문화연구 Vol.24 No.-

South Africa is a multiracial country where different cultures and languages coexist. Culture can be conveyed through language. Language conditioning is also social conditioning, and through words we make sense of our own and others` experience. In this paper I investigate the meaning of two culturally significant words: (English) peace and (African) ubuntu. Data findings will show how L2 speakers of English, when asked to define peace, promptly operate a process of transfer of the meaning from their mother-tongue Xhosa equivalent - uxolo - to its English equivalent. Ubuntu, an African word which encompasses traditional African values, has no counterpart in English. I will also argue how, in the ongoing process of globalisation, English is playing a predominant role in promoting cultural homogenization.

Effect of pasture and intensive feeding systems on the carcass and meat quality of buffalo

        Contò Michela,Cifuni Giulia Francesca,Iacurto Miriam,Failla Sebastiana 아세아·태평양축산학회 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.1

Objective: This work was carried out to evaluate the effect of pasture (PA) feeding on buffalo meat quality compared with buffaloes reared intensively with the use of corn silage as a forage base or alternatively with polyphite meadow hay (PH). Methods: Thirty Mediterranean bull buffaloes were distributed into three experimental diet groups: maize silage (MS), PH, and PA. The animals were slaughtered at a live weight of 250 kg, and carcass and meat quality were evaluated. After 7 days of ageing, physical and chemical parameters of longissimus thoracis muscle were determined. To evaluate lipid oxidation the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances was tested at 7 and 14 days, and also the fatty acid profile was recorded by gas chromatography. Results: The PA group, even if it showed carcass parameters lower than those of the silage maize group, reported a good meat percentage (60.59% vs 58.46%, respectively) and lower fat percentage (p<0.001). PA-fed animals showed meat redness, and even if only on raw meat, shear force was higher than the others. Low values of conjugate linoleic acid, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and n-3 were reported in the silage maize group. Principal component analysis (PCA) clearly showed the influence of different diets on meat quality, and PCA1 and PCA2 explained 82% of the variability. Conclusion: Buffaloes reared on PA had meat with high nutritional value even if they showed poor carcass performance compared to the animals fed on MS. Buffaloes fed on polyphite hay were in an intermediate position, similar to grazing animals, according to the same nutritional determinations. The New Public Management in hybrid settings: New challenges for performance measures

Deborah Agostino,Michela Arnaboldi 한국행정학회 2015 International Review of Public Administration Vol.20 No.4

This study questions whether Performance Measurement Systems (PMSs) defined under the New Public Management (NPM) logic fit the needs of hybrid settings where inter-organizational relationships exist between multiple actors in charge of service delivery. After outlining the key characteristics of an NPM-based PMS and its limitations in hybrid settings, an exploratory case study was carried out on a public network in charge of delivering a local public transport service. The network was particularly appropriate, as it initially endorsed an NPM-based PMS. Findings show problems in using the PMS and adapting the model, which led to the development of new features and requirements. Using a theoretical triangulation, it was possible to draw a more general insight into the characteristics of a PMS in a hybrid setting, here called a relational and participative PMS.

A Review of International Risk Sharing for Policy Analysis

        Pilar Poncela,Michela Nardo,Filippo M. Pericoli 대외경제정책연구원 2019 East Asian Economic Review Vol.23 No.3

issues from the perspective of the European Union. The traditional analyses contemplate three risk-sharing channels: the capital markets channel (through cross border portfolio investments), international transfers and the credit markets channel (via savings). Comparative analyses reveal that, on average, about 80% of the shock remains unsmoothed in Europe while only about 18% of the shock is transmitted to consumers within the US. From aggregated figures, there is space for improving, particularly, the cross-border investments channel in Europe. In this sense, the completion of the Banking and Capital Markets Union are expected to boost risk sharing across European member states. We also review new additional issues usually not contemplated by the traditional literature as depreciation, migration and the role of sovereigns and two new additional channels recently considered in the literature: government consumption and the real exchange rate. Finally, we also examine recent analysis related to the geographic distribution of risk sharing.
