        The theme of travel is, at least in theory, a breeding ground of a meeting between the rationalist perspective and the humanistic or cognitive perspective in geography. Indeed the two approaches have often followed opposite routes, one being anchored to the objective description and the other reaching the subjectivism of behaviour geography. This article tries to fit in that multiple perspective which aims to reconcile rationalist and cognitive analysis, focusing on a multidimensional approach in the description and representation of places. This contribution seeks to experiment with new ways of spreading travel culture by using the specific instruments of the geographer. It is also an attempt to verify the reliability of the new means of expression and of the new multimedia techniques starting from proper geographical instruments such as GIS and basing hypertext flexibility on cartographic tangibility. We intend to clarify the reasons and the epistemological framework of our proposal and to analyse specific applications such as that we have realized with reference to a journey in the United States: the hypermap named Amerigo. The fundamental innovative aspect is the inclusion of the subjective dimension, coming from travel experience, within a system of objective references linked to geographical coordinates.

        중국으로의 외국인 국내 관광이 중국 대외무역 규모에 미치는 영향

        본 논문은 1996년부터 2017년까지 중국에 입국한 해외 여행객 수가 중국과 해당국가 간 무역규모에 미치는 영향을 실증분석하였다. 이를 위해 중력모형을 구축하고 해당 기간 중국 입국 여행객 수가 가장 많은 상위 25개국을 대상으로 연도별 자료를 사용하여 패널 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 종속변수는 중국의 수출액, 수입액, 수출입 총액으로 설정하였고, 독립변수로는 각국 경제규모를 나타내는 1인당 실질 GDP, 교역대상국에서 중국으로 입국하는 여행객 수, 교역대상국의 인구 규모, 교역대상국과 중국 간 실질환율 등을 고려하였다. 분석 결과, 중국 입국 여행객 수 증가는 수출과 수입 모두 일정하게 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나, 외국과의 관광규모 확대와 국제무역 활동 간 일정한 상관관계가 있음을 확인하였다. 이와 함께 전통적인 중력모형에서 가정하는 바와 같이, 양국의 경제규모(GDP)가 국가간 무역흐름에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. This paper investigates the effect of international tourism on Chinese international trade volumes. To do so, I builds a general gravity equation with 25 top visiting countries to China, by collecting panel data from 1996 to 2017. I consider Chinese exports, imports, and total trade volumes as dependent variables, and also consider real GDP per capita, number of visitors to China, visiting countries’ population, and real exchange rates as control variables. The results shows that the real GDP per capita and the number of visitors to China positively affect on trade volumes of China. This indicates that the visiting pattern can possibly stimulate the trade activities by ameliorating various types of trade barriers such as language and culture, and also decreasing information asymmetries between countries.

      • Palm Vein Recognition Using Directional Features Derived from Local Binary Patterns

        Vein-based biometrics is a newly developed technology for personal recognition, and it is widely used in practice and intensively studied. This paper proposes a method for palm vein recognition based on the directional information derived from local binary patters. In the proposed method, palm vein images are firstly enhanced using a multi-scale Gaussian matched filter to emphasize vein patterns before feature extraction. After that, local binary patterns are extracted from the enhanced palm vein images. Considering that the direction is the most discriminative feature of veins, the directional information is then computed from the local binary patterns. The computed palm vein features are represented as binary series, therefore, similarities can be computed efficiently by binary operation. Experiments carried out over the near infer-red band of the PolyU multispectral database shows the superiority of the proposed method on verification accuracy to some state-of-the-art literatures.

        Dependency of Portevin-LeChatelier Effect and Microstructure Characteristics of 9Cr ODS Steels on Strain Rates Upon Hot Deformation

        The flow stress and microstructure evolution of 9Cr oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels were investigated by isothermalcompression at 1000–1150 oC with strain rates from 0.001 to 1 s−1. Microstructure characteristics of ODS steelsunder various condition were studied using the EBSD and TEM techniques. At each deformation temperature, PortevinLe--Chatelier (PLC) effect characteristics of repeated serrated stress was observed, as the strain rates were 0.01, 0.1 and 1 s−1. The serrations fluctuated about the mean flow curve in quick succession, and the critical strain for the PLC effect was relatedto both the deformation temperature and strain rates. The stress drops at strain rates of 0.01 and 0.1 s−1 were smaller thanthose at 1 s−1. The strain rate affected the dynamic recovery and recrystallization of austenite grains, as well as the texturecomponents of martensite transformed from austenite. Cap-shaped oxide particles in as-fabricated and hot deformed steelswere characterized in detail. The cap parts of cap-shaped oxide particles were depleted of alloying elements, and the capswere crystal or amorphous. Large-sized oxide particles were easier to be deformed than small-sized ones. Despite of theoxide deformation, the PLC effect was still suggested to be related to the solute-dislocation interaction.

        Optimizing the Issue of Blood Supply Chain Network Design with a Reliability Approach

        Supply chain network design of a product is one of the primary and strategic measures in supply chain management that plays a vital role in supply chain performance. Since blood is a special commodity and has no substitute, supply chain management and optimization have a special place among researchers. In this research, for the first time, a two-objective nonlinear mixed integer model is presented to help make strategic and operational decisions in the blood supply chain. The first objective function is related to cost minimization and the second objective function is related to supply chain reliability maximization, which is considered as a series-parallel system. To check the validity of the model, a numerical example is solved using GAMS software, then using MOPSO meta-heuristic algorithm, the model is solved in larger dimensions and while comparing the performance criteria of multi-objective algorithms, the results are reviewed.
