WRF wind forecasts from four operative schemes used by OHMC (Observatorio HidroMeteorológico de Córdoba), a test scheme (WRF-E) and two daily runs with 4 km horizontal resolution were analyzed. Wind simulations were compared with measurements from eight ground stations with anemometers at 10 m high during the period from June, 2019 to June, 2020. WRF-E incorporates more vertical levels, and an activated topo_wind option. The wind speed results show that WRF overestimates wind speed at most stations and the WRF-E model reduces the BIAS and the RMSE when compared with the operational models. The wind direction analysis shows that the higher the wind speed is, the more accurate the models are. In addition, a wind gust forecasting has been implemented and evaluated in this work. Wind gust correlation coefficient values are between 0.3 and 0.6, RMSE is between 3 and 5 m/s, and a positive BIAS (<2 m/s) at most stations.

Two carbonaceous adsorbents CAT and CARBOPAL were tested for reducing the concentration of the three herbicides in water: 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid), TCP (2,4,6-trichlorophenol) and metolachlor. Textural and chemical characterization of the adsorbents include nitrogen isotherms, FTIR, titration and thermogravimetric analyses. Adsorption was studied in discontinuous adsorption experiments at different pH values. The experimental adsorption isotherms data were fitted to four theoretical models. Adsorbent characterization reveals that CAT has higher micropore area, lower pore diameter and lower acidity than CARBOPAL. The adsorption is a second-order process and the isotherms best fitted to Sips model. The efficiency of the process depends mainly on the charge of the adsorbate for TCP and 2,4-D, but it depends on the charge of the surface for metolachlor. Adsorption capacity is higher on CAT for 2,4-D and TCP (small molecules), and it is higher on CARBOPAL for metolachlor (large molecules). Theoretical calculations clearly support this assumption.

Purpose:Purpose: Vitamin D (VD) acts on sperm motility, capacitation and survival but its role in steroidogenesis is less clear. Aims: To analyze seasonal variations in sex steroids and VD in a healthy male population. Materials and Methods:Materials and Methods: Twenty-nine healthy males, 34.0±4.8 years were included. Blood collection in winter (W) and sum-mer (S) was performed to measure: 25OHD, total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH), and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). Testosterone/estradiol (T/E2) ratio was calculated. Results:Results: In W, lower levels of 25OHD: 18.8±7.2 ng/mL vs. 38.8±11.9 ng/mL (p<0.0001) and LH: 3.5±1.2 mU/mL vs. 3.9±1.5 mU/mL (p=0.05), and higher levels of TT: 501.9±157.7 ng/dL vs. 405.0±128.0 ng/dL (p=0.0003), FT: 11.8±4.1 ng/dL vs. 10.2±3.7 ng/dL (p=0.017), SHBG: 28.5±10.9 nmol/L vs. 23.6±7.9 nmol/L (p=0.002) and T/E2 ratio: 30.7±19.7 ng/dL/pg/mL vs. 17.3±3.6 ng/dL/pg/mL (p=0.0015) with no variation in E2 levels were observed. A positive correlation between 25OHD and E2 (r=0.28, p=0.04) and negative correlations between 25OHD and TT (r=-0.27, p=0.049), 25OHD and FT (r=-0.32, p=0.01), and 25OHD and T/E2 (r=-0.44, p=0.0008) were found. Conclusions:Conclusions: In healthy young male population, seasonal variations were observed in 25OHD and LH levels (higher in S) and in TT, FT, SHBG levels, and T/E2 (higher in W). Lower values of TT and FT in S are accompanied by higher levels of LH, which rules out a central mechanism for lowering testosterone. 25OHD negatively correlated with TT, FT, and T/E2 and posi-tively correlated with E2, suggesting a relationship between VD status and changes in gonadal steroids.

Objective: To compare the diagnostic performance of six different approaches for assessing myometrial infiltration using ultrasound in women with carcinoma of the corpus uteri. Methods: Myometrial infiltration was assessed by two-dimensional (2D) transvaginal or transrectal ultrasound in 169 consecutive women with well (G1) or moderately (G2) differentiated endometrioid type endometrial carcinoma. In 74 of these women three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound was also performed. Six different techniques for myometrial infiltration assessment were evaluated. The impression of examiner and Karlsson’s criteria were assessed prospectively. Endometrial thickness, tumor/ uterine 3D volume ratio, tumor distance to myometrial serosa (TDS), and van Holsbeke’s subjective model were assessed retrospectively. All subjects underwent surgical staging within 1 week after ultrasound evaluation. Definitive histopathological data regarding myometrial infiltration was used as gold standard. Sensitivity and specificity for all approaches were calculated and compared using McNemar test. Results: The impression of examiner and subjective model performed similarly (sensitivity 79.5% and 80.5%, respectively; specificity 89.6% and 90.3%, respectively). Both methods had significantly better sensitivity than Karlsson's criteria (sensitivity 31.8%, p<0.05) and endometrial thickness (sensitivity 47.7%, p<0.05), and better specificity than tumor/uterine volume ratio (specificity 28.3%, p<0.05) and TDS (specificity 41.5%, p<0.05). Conclusion: Subjective impression seems to be the best approach for assessing myometrial infiltration in G1 or G2 endometrioid type endometrial cancer by transvaginal or transrectal ultrasound. The use of mathematical models and other objective 2D and 3D measurement techniques do not improve diagnostic performance.

Background and Purpose Ascertaining stroke severity and predicting risk of in-hospital mortality is crucial to advise patients and families about medical decisions. We developed and tested the validity of a new stroke score, the 6S Score (Stroke Severity Score based on Six Signs and Symptoms), for quantifying ischemic stroke severity and predicting in-hospital mortality. Methods We prospectively assessed 210 consecutive acute ischemic stroke patients. The cohort was further divided into a derivation (n=120) and a validation (n=90) sample. From a total of 10 stroke signs and symptoms, we selected those with likelihood ratio’s P<0.005. We tested the validity of the score for predicting in-hospital mortality by using receiver operating characteristic curves. We used a scatterplot and the Spearman’s test to evaluate the correlation between the 6S Score and the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale as a marker of stroke severity. We used principal component and exploratory factor analyses for assessing qualitative aspects of the 6S Score. Results The C statistic for in-hospital mortality was 0.82 for the 6S Score and 0.86 for the National Institutes of health Stroke Scale, respectively, with no significant differences between each other (P=0.79). The correlation between both scores was strong (Spearman’s rho 0.68, P<0.001). The factor analyses showed a good balance between left/right hemispheres and anterior/posterior circulations. Conclusions The 6S Score may constitute a tool for easily assessing stroke severity and predicting stroke mortality. Further research is needed for further assessing its external validity.

Purpose: In the West, diverticular disease is located mainly in the left colon. However, it can also present in the right colon, with an incidence of 1%–2% in Caucasians. The purpose of this study was to describe our experience in right-sided acute diverticulitis (RD). Methods: In this retrospective study, 410 patients with acute diverticulitis treated from 2013 to 2020 were included in a university hospital in Córdoba, Argentina. Colonic diverticulitis was stratified into 2 groups; RD and left-sided acute diverticulitis. Demographic and clinical variables, laboratory and imaging findings, type of treatment, follow-up, and recurrence were analyzed. Results: Sixteen patients (3.9%) with RD were identified; 62.5% were male and the mean age was 40.7±11.7 years. A total of 81.3% were Caucasian and 18.7% Native American. Significant differences were found between both groups of diverticulitis; patients with RD were younger (P=0.001), with lower BMI (P=0.01), comorbidity rate (P=0.01), Charlson comorbidity index (P=0.02), hospital stay (P=0.01), severity according to the Hinchey classification (P=0.001) and had a lower recurrence rate (P=0.001). There were no significant differences in sex (P=0.95), duration of pain until admission (P=0.05), laboratory findings (P=0.23) and treatment (P=0.34). Conclusion: Conservative treatment predominated in RD, with a lower rate of complications and recurrences, providing data that support conservative therapy as initial treatment in RD in our environment.
