Adaptive Event-triggered Output Feedback Control for a Class of Switched Stochastic Nonlinear Systems with Unknown Output Gain

Manman Yuan,Junyong Zhai 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.1

This paper discusses the problem of event-triggered output feedback control for a class of switched stochastic nonlinear systems with unknown output gain. By introducing a dynamic gain into the system, a controller is designed under event-triggering mechanism. It can be shown that all signals of the closed-loop system are bounded in probability. In addition, the Zeno behavior is excluded. An example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Engineered fibrotic liver-targeted truncated transforming growth factor β receptor type II variant for superior anti-liver fibrosis therapy

        Manman Ma,Xiaohua Wang,Xiaohui Liu,Yang Han,Yanhui Chu,Yanzhong Guan,Haifeng Liu 대한약학회 2023 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.46 No.3

Truncated transforming growth factor β receptor type II (tTβRII) is a promising anti-liver fibrotic candidate because it serves as a trap for binding excessive TGF-β1 by means of competing with wild type TβRII (wtTβRII). However, the widespread application of tTβRII for the treatment of liver fibrosis has been limited by its poor fibrotic liver-homing capacity. Herein, we designed a novel tTβRII variant Z-tTβRII by fusing the platelet-derived growth factor β receptor (PDGFβR)-specific affibody ZPDGFβR to the N-terminus of tTβRII. The target protein Z-tTβRII was produced using Escherichia coli expression system. In vitro and in vivo studies showed that Z-tTβRII has a superior specific fibrotic liver-targeting potential via the engagement of PDGFβR-overexpressing activated hepatic stellate cells (aHSCs) in liver fibrosis. Moreover, Z-tTβRII significantly inhibited cell migration and invasion, and downregulated fibrosis- and TGF-β1/Smad pathway-related protein levels in TGF-β1-stimiluated HSC-T6 cells. Furthermore, Z-tTβRII remarkably ameliorated liver histopathology, mitigated the fibrosis responses and blocked TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway in CCl4-induced liver fibrotic mice. More importantly, Z-tTβRII exhibits a higher fibrotic liver-targeting potential and stronger anti-fibrotic effects than either its parent tTβRII or former variant BiPPB-tTβRII (PDGFβR-binding peptide BiPPB modified tTβRII). In addition, Z-tTβRII shows no significant sign of potential side effects in other vital organs in liver fibrotic mice. Taken together, we conclude that Z-tTβRII with its a high fibrotic liver-homing potential, holds a superior anti-fibrotic activity in liver fibrosis in vitro and in vivo, which may be a potential candidate for targeted therapy for liver fibrosis.

Impact of Intersecting Angles on Evacuation Efficiency of Pedestrian Flows in High Volume: A Case Study in Metro Station

        Manman Chen,Jinghong Wang,Youran Zhi,Jinhua Sun 대한토목학회 2019 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.23 No.5

The intersection of pedestrian flows is a general phenomenon in daily pedestrian traffic and emergency evacuation. However, lacking of effective controls in crowed areas will result in pedestrian deceleration, stopping, and even threats to safety in evacuation. This paper focused on exploring the influence of different intersecting angles on evacuation efficiency of pedestrian flows in high volume. Through establishing a bidirectional pedestrian flow model with different intersecting angles for a busy metro station in China based on the social force model, two factors, namely the impact between pedestrians and the conflict frequency, were firstly proposed and validated as that playing major roles in influencing the evacuation efficiency during the pedestrian intersection. With the case study, it is found that the best intersecting angle is 120 degree and angles between 40 and 80 degree are unfavorable in optimizing the average crowd speed and the crowd density. The results are verified based on the comparative analysis with some existing experimental results. The outcomes of this work can offer some guidelines to control the intersection of pedestrian flows during evacuation and can make contributions to a proposal for the related, optimized design of a structure to increasing the evacuation efficiency of a dense crowd.

Surface Modification of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Ultrafiltration Membranes with Chitosan for Anti-Fouling and Antibacterial Performance

        Weiwei Xia,Manman Xie,Xia Feng,Li Chen,Yiping Zhao 한국고분자학회 2018 Macromolecular Research Vol.26 No.13

A graft copolymer (PVDF-g-PAA) having poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) backbones and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) side chains was synthesized using the radical polymerization method and the PVDF-g-PAA copolymer membrane was prepared via immersion phase inversion. Then the chitosan was immobilized on the surface of the copolymer membrane by covalent bond. The morphology, surface chemical structure and performance of the modified membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, water contact angle, permeation measurement, antifouling and antibacterial tests. The results showed that the contact angle of the modified membrane decreased, and the water flux increased from 37.74Lm-2h-1 for pure PVDF membrane to 119.43 Lm-2h-1, which indicated that the modified membrane had higher hydrophilicity than unmodified membrane. The modified membrane has better antifouling properties than pure PVDF membrane due to the increase of surface hydrophilicity, and the highest water flux recovery ratio can achieve 93.2%. Furthermore, the modified membrane showed good antibacterial activity (E. coli), and the maximum antibacterial ratio of the modified membrane was 89.6%.

Genetic architecture and candidate genes detected for chicken internal organ weight with a 600 K single nucleotide polymorphism array

        Taocun Dou,Manman Shen,Meng Ma,Liang Qu,Yongfeng Li,Yuping Hu,Jian Lu,Jun Guo,Xingguo Wang,Kehua Wang 아세아·태평양축산학회 2019 Animal Bioscience Vol.32 No.3

Objective: Internal organs indirectly affect economic performance and well-being of animals. Study of internal organs during later layer period will allow full utilization of layer hens. Hence, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify potential quantitative trait loci or genes that potentially contribute to internal organ weight. Methods: A total of 1,512 chickens originating from White Leghorn and Dongxiang Blue-Shelled chickens were genotyped using high-density Affymetrix 600 K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array. We conducted a GWAS, linkage disequilibrium analysis, and heritability estimated based on SNP information by using GEMMA, Haploview and GCTA software. Results: Our results displayed that internal organ weights show moderate to high (0.283 to 0.640) heritability. Variance partitioned across chromosomes and chromosome lengths had a linear relationship for liver weight and gizzard weight (R2 = 0.493, 0.753). A total of 23 highly significant SNPs that associated with all internal organ weights were mainly located on Gallus gallus autosome (GGA) 1 and GGA4. Six SNPs on GGA2 affected heart weight. After the final analysis, five top SNPs were in or near genes 5-Hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A, general transcription factor IIF polypeptide 2, WD repeat and FYVE domain containing 2, non-SMC condensin I complex subunit G, and sonic hedgehog, which were considered as candidate genes having a pervasive role in internal organ weights. Conclusion: Our findings provide an understanding of the underlying genetic architecture of internal organs and are beneficial in the selection of chickens.

China’s Economic Policy Uncertainty Shocks and South Korea’s Exports: A TVP-VAR Approach with an SMSS Structure

        Lin Liu,Manman Zhang,Wei Li 한국무역학회 2020 Journal of Korea trade Vol.24 No.4

Purpose - Since China has been South Korea’s biggest export destination, uncertainty shocks originating from it would influence South Korea’s exports. This paper evaluates the effects of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports to explore the transmission channels. Design/methodology - Incorporating endogeneities and nonlinearities, this study employs a quarterly time-varying parameters vector autoregressive model to investigate the relationships between China’s economic policy uncertainty and Korea’s exports, where the overparameterization due to time-varying specifications is overcome by a novel stochastic model specification search framework. According to previous theoretical studies, this paper assesses two channels, demand shock channel and exchange rate channel, through which foreign uncertainty affects Korea’s exports. This paper identifies the primary drivers of Korea’s aggregate exports and analyzes the rationales for the time-variant impacts of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports to China. Findings - Our empirical results reveal that Korea’s aggregate exports are less responsive to China’s economic policy uncertainty shocks and significantly move together with global demand. In contrast, its bilateral exports to China are highly responsive in a negative and time-variant way. Moreover, Chinese investment is an important channel through which China’s economic policy uncertainty affects Korea’s exports to China after 2010. Further, the time-variant effects of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports to China are related to changes in China’s foreign trade policies, global economic conditions, and China’s degree of economic freedom. Originality/value - Few previous studies touch the effects of external uncertainty shocks on South Korea’s exports. This paper attempts to fill this gap and explicitly investigate the impacts of China’s economic policy uncertainty on Korea’s exports from a time-varying perspective. As Korea is an export-oriented economy, this study provides insights for the Korean government to understand the transmissions of external uncertainty better.
