Opuntia humifusa is a member of the Cactaceae family. In the present study, the antioxidant, nitric oxide (NO) inhibitory activities and potential irritation response of the fermented Opuntia humifusa cladodes (FOH) were investigated for cosmetic use. Antioxidant activities were tested using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and xanthine oxidase assay, we found that FOH could scavenge DPPH free radicals and inhibit xanthine oxidase activity in a dose dependent manner, with IC50 of 2599.46 ㎍/㎖ and 721.38 ㎍/㎖, respectively. To investigate the possible antiinflammatory effects of FOH, RAW 264.7 macrophages were pretreated with FOH (0~400 ㎍/㎖) for 30 min and then treated with LPS for 24 h. We found that cell number did not vary significantly with the treatment of FOH, and FOH did not show any inhibitory effects on LPS-induced NO production. After application of FOH to rabbits for skin and eye irritation test, the experimental sites did not show any response compared to the control. FOH were considered to be a non-irritant to the skin and eye. Based on the above information, we suggest that FOH can be considered to be a non-irritant base cosmetic material for safely use.

A nanoflower structure of Zn0.76Co0.24S directly grown on carbon fiber papers (CFP) was successfully designed by a mild two-step hydrothermal method. Benefiting from their fascinating structural features, Zn0.76Co0.24S/CFP electrode exhibits a maximum specific capacitance of 300 F g -1 at current density of 1 A g -1 and 84% capacitance retention after 5,000 cycles at current density of 5 Ag -1. Subsequently, Zn0.76Co0.24S/CFP//AC all-solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device is assembled and able to illuminate the red LEDs. ASC devices deliver a maximum energy density of 9.59 Wh kg -1 at a power density of 750 W kg -1. Therefore, this impressive result demonstrates that the nanoflower Zn0.76Co0.24S have promising applications in the development of high-performance supercapacitors.

<P>Electrospinning has recently emerged as a leading technique for the formation of nanofibrous structures made of organic and inorganic components. In this study, nanofibrous scaffolds were prepared by electrospining a bend solution of poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and silver nanoparticles in 1,1,1,3,3,3,-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP). The resulting fibers ranged from 420 to 590 nm in diameter. To evaluate the possibility of using silver-containing PLGA as a tissue engineering scaffold, experiments on cell viability and antibacterial activity were carried out. As a result, PLGA nanofibrous scaffolds having silver nanoparticles of more than 0.5 wt% showed antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumonia. Furthermore, silver-containing PLGA nanofibrous scaffolds showed viability, indicating their possible application in the field of tissue engineering.</P>

Surface roughness is well known to affect cellular activity. This study presents a method to fabricate nano-scale surface roughness on the surfaces of polymer, metal, glass with calcium phosphate thin film. Metastable calcium and phosphate ion solution was slowly heated to obtain calcium phosphate thin fibn. Then fresh calcium and phosphate ion solution was added to fabricate nano-scale roughness over tlùs initially forrned thin film. Various surfaces of nano- scale roughness lower than 800 nm of Ra v외ue was obtained. Initial cell adhesion was characterized over the fabricated surfaces using MC3T3-El osteoblastic cellline. Spreading of osteoblastic cell decreased according to the increase of surface roughness. Less stress fibers developed in the cells attaching to the rougher surface. Less focal contacts visualized by staining vinculin was found in the cells of irútial adhesion. All these features of the initial cell adhesion represents that less adhesion signals are generated from the rougher surface. Further study is required to evaluate the effect of these low adhesion signals on the overall cellular activitv.

Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the prognostic implications of pretreatment circulating endothelial cells (CECs) and circulating endothelial progenitor cells (CEPCs) for the survival of patients with lung cancer. Materials and Methods: Relevant literature was identified using Medline and EMBASE. Patient clinical characteristics, overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) together with CEC and CEPC positive rates before treatment were extracted. STATA 12.0 was used for our analysis and assessment of publication bias. Results: A total of 13 articles (8 for CEC and 5 for CEPC, n=595 and n=244) were pooled for the global meta-analysis. The odds ratio (OR) for OS predicted by pretreatment CECs was 1.641 [0.967, 2.786], while the OR for PFS was 1.168 [0.649, 2.100]. The OR for OS predicted by pretreatment CEPCs was 12.673 [5.274, 30.450], while the OR for PFS was 4.930 [0.931, 26.096]. Subgroup analyses were conducted according to clinical staging. Odds ratio (OR) showed the high level of pretreatment CECs only correlated with the OS of patients with advanced lung cancer (stage III-IV). Conclusions: High counts of CECs seem to be associated only with worse 1-year OS in patients with lung cancer, while high level of pretreatment CEPCs correlate with both worse PFS and OS.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship among Taekwondo experience, brand equity, Taekwondo flow and Taekwondo-Jang reuse Intention of Chinese Taekwondo-Jang trainee. Method: The subjects were 300 middle school trainees from Taekwondo-Jang in Shanxi Province, China, and all 300 (100%) data were used for analysis. Data processing was done for frequency analysis and Cronbach’s α using SPSSWIN Version 25.0 and confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model analysis using AMOS Version 24.0. Based on the research method and procedures, the results of the study were summarized as follows. Results: The results were as follows. First, it was found that among the program experience of Taekwondo-Jang, educational experience had positive effects on brand awareness, but entertainment experience, escapist experience, and esthetic experience didn’t have an effect. Second, it was revealed that among the program experience of Taekwondo-Jang, entertainment experience, educational experience, and escapist experience had positive effects on brand awareness, but esthetic experience didn’t have an effect. Third, it was found that brand equity had a positive effect on flow. Fourth, the flow was shown to have a positive influence on reuse intention. Conclusion: As a result of this study, the Taekwondo experience partially affects brand awareness and brand image, which are components of brand equity. However, brand awareness and brand image have a positive effect on flow, and flow has a positive effect on re-use intention. Therefore, the Taekwondo-Jang manager should effectively reinforce the factors of Taekwondo experience.

The interconnected three-dimensional Ni–Co–S nanosheets were successfully deposited on ZnO nanorods by a one-step potentiostatic electrodeposition. The Ni–Co–S nanosheets provide a large electrode/electrolyte interfacial area which has adequate electroactive sites for redox reactions. Electrochemical characterization of the ZnO@Ni–Co–S core–shell nanorods presents high specifc capacitance (1302.5 F/g and 1085 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g and 20 A/g), excellent rate capabilities (83.3% retention at 20 A/g) and great cycling stability (65% retention after 5000 cycles at a current density of 30 A/g). The outstanding electrochemical performance of the as-prepared electrode material also can be ascribed to these reasons that the special structure improved electrical conductivity and allowed the fast diffusion of electrolyte ions.
